Even if you think English is a universal language, you could be surprised how differently Polish people use English, especially when it comes to simple, frequently used phrases.

Cześć. Many ppl (especially younger adults) in America can't take constructive criticism so that may be why you experience that, bc ppl are used to dealing with emotionally weak ppl. Generally, if we don't know a person we are not going to critique something they do, unless they ask for feedback. Also, saying "I don't care" in America requires context. It can mean many things, from polite "I am indifferent" to "you and your opinion are sh!t" 😉

I couldn't have phrased it better - I mean, the difference between being indifferent to not caring at all

Regarding ‘nie obchodzi mnie to’ I find this rarely used and indeed it does come across as aggressive. Even I take it this way. Generally I use ‘jest mi obojętne’ although, yes this can be used in different contexts. As for ok, this is funny as when ever I was talking to an ex-girlfriend and they said “ok” I always asked Polish ok (good), or English ok (ranging anywhere from a simple acknowledgement, something is terrible, or mediocre) 😅

I have a similar experience when it comes to OK when it comes to being asked about it being a Polish or English OK. 🤭

I would say "obojętnie" or "wszystko jedno" for "I don't care, I leave the decision to you"

It depends on the intonation as well. "It's okay" may mean average, mediocre, or if different intonation, it may mean, "No problem". This is a very complicated subject to describe on English for me, but I get 100% your line of thought.

Thank you. I need this so much at certain family functions such as Easter when politics gets brought up in conversation.

“I don’t care” can actually be quite rude if you use the right emphasis

Yes I sometimes love the bluntness of Poles & their directness at expressing dissatisfaction. Oh wow so my Polish husband is actually more angry than I thought when he says "I don't care". And wow he actually likes my cooking! He's always said my food "it's okay" even when I know he likes it.😄

I find a lot of generic terms in English - like OK - need context and tone to interpret. Generally it's positive, mildly so in most cases but said with enthusiasms it would mean the same as dobrze, but also said more slowly with a flat tone it can be negative, almost a warning.

From my experience I would only expect a guy to ask me for my number and then call me. Perhaps that's a thought for the future :)

What about "nied bam" for "I don't care"?

"Nie dbam o to" as a translation of "I don't care" seems very literal. You can say that you don't take care of your health = Nie dbam o swoje zdrowie. and that sounds natural. "Nie dbam o to" as a response to sb's question or suggestion would be very rude.
