Ken Doherty was still competitive on the snooker tour in 2013, and Hendry had only recently retired. Both former World Champions and hugely sucessful players. At one point around thd year 2000 Ken Doherty was provisionally ranked world number one. Hendry is one of the greatest Snooker players in the history of the game. Many of his peers were slightly suprised he retired when he did as although he was no longer the player he was, he was still playing at a very high level.

You know who'd make a great interviewee that I've just thought of? The Sheriff, Anthony Hamilton! I mean yeah, you'd lose the frame, that goes without saying, he's still insanely good even though he says he can't see properly...but that's one of the reasons I say he'd be great on the channel. He's had such a long career, such a good career (despite underachieving), his views on most issues make a lot of sense, and he seems a really intelligent person. Great character too. Anyway, thanks for this one Stephen and Gareth, fascinating to get an insight into the pool/Chinese pool world!

Thank you for all your great videos Stephen! Marvellous content! Comment on 8:50 "English 8 ball is the only cue sport in the world where the balls are different sizes": Most 8 ball in Brazil is played with a cue ball larger than the object balls, which brings a completely different dynamic to the game. The reason for that is the system for retrieving the cue ball on coin-operated tables.

@@truthsayerq7264 Ask Selby if he could have made top 16 in snooker. I watch all Sports. Potts played with Appleton, Melling, Selby, and was probably the best. He chose another part, and is a legend in China after never having played on their tables. Hendry and many others went there and looked like donkeys. Including all US, Taiwan and Phillipino players. He set the standard in a sport the best Snooker players struggle with and almost never win against top 20 in China. There's empirical evidence and I actually ran tournaments in China. You're just a wanker.

@Zombies8MyPizza
@Zombies8MyPizza Жыл бұрын
Snooker is very obviously a more technically-demanding game, but it's also a much simpler game. Let's say hypothetically, you came from some other form of billiards, like carom, you have a near-perfect cue action and top tier cue ball control. You'd have an easier time learning to break build in snooker than you would learning to play patterns in 8 ball. Snooker break building is working around the black, playing into areas where you have shots on multiple reds, looking for opportunities to break apart the pack. 8 ball is a lot more complex. Every rack looks different, you've got to pick the correct order to pick the balls off in and routes to take to stand the best chance of clearing the table. You'll always see a pool player circling the table after the break, trying to figure out how to play it, whereas more often than not a snooker player comes to the table knowing which shot to play.
