I recently joined our local league. This provided a good opportunity to meet & play with way much higher ranking level player that I am with great learning experience. Combined with high quality & expertise sharing youtube video from your channel, I can say my level of skill has drastically ramp up this year. Thank you very much for that support Chris. I am lucky enough to have a 8 foot table at home so I was able to keep playing with family and perform drill during this COVID lock down. Only 1 thing missing , A new Cue 😉😂👍. Stay safe

Hey Chris, love how your videos not only help the beginner players, but also give the intermediate/advanced players something to think about while working on their game to get better. Pre shot routine is something I’ve been working on myself recently. Thanks for the opportunity to win a new cue. I’ve been shooting with a 1972 dufferin for the past 3 years and have been thinking about an upgrade. Love the content! Keep it coming!

I've played pool for around 50 + years. I saw one of your videos. WOW! I searched for your other videos. Finally, pooI lessons that are easy for me to listen to and understand. I took your advice to the pool hall and yup, it worked. I thought I was subscribed but just found out I wasn't, so I did. I noticed when you showed your pre-shot routine, you looked aiming your shot, stopped and chalked our cue, then stood to aim again, and completed the routine. When you walked to the head of the table to demonstrate your routine the second time, you chalked first, then aimed while standing and completed the routine. For me, I believe it is best that I chalk my cue first and then go to the pre-shot routine as I find that if I aimed while standing, then chalked, I had to do the standing aim again as I lost where to hit the object ball. Maybe it's just because it is hard for me to stay focused on where I want to hit the object ball. As for colored labels to match up the balls in a drill. That's a really good idea. Whoever wins that stick is going to be one really lucky guy or girl. What I've read and heard is that Lucasi is a really great cue stick. For fun, I was sitting here laughing at the thought of my friend's mouth falling open when I pulled that stick out to play and him saying, "I want one." Ha, ha, ha. Daydreaming can be fun.

That's why I mentioned that I don't think it matters where you chalk in your pre-shot routine as long as you do it before you get down on the shot. I've seen players that EXCESSIVELY chalk in between EVERY step of their pre-shot routine before they get down on their shot. Different "strokes" for different folks.

Having a definite pre-shot routine has helped me a lot. I am nowhere near excellent but it has reduced common errors for me and increased consistency. Being a relatively old fart (59) I am late to the game of improving. Played a lot when in my 20s but I find that following good coaching has made me a much better shooter. Now, our weekly games with friends have been a nice challenge to improve and that improvement in noticeable. I share some of your tips. Friends appreciate it. Thanks.

Chris, another great training video - thanks for all the hard work you do. As I have posted before, I use your videos as assignments for my APA team, just a couple of points to add. I completely agree with your points on planning, but I eliminate this entirely when coaching new SL 2 and 3s. Often, I have to break down bad habits, and establish the routine as rock solid prior to working on planning and table strategy. Some may disagree with this second point, but I coach to always be focusing on the cue ball only during the practice stroke. This can help notice any errors with scooping, chicken wing, etc. prior to the shot. Also this helps to get in the good habit of cueing closer to the ball on your practice stroke to truly spot point of contact. Also - congrats on making 50K so quickly! Huge accomplishment in so short a time. You'll get that Silver plaque in no time!

Chris - I've very much enjoyed watching your videos, especially since you provide a visualization of the shot vs. simply talking about the how. I've actually been able to pick up different uses of stun for ball positioning simply by watching your tip placement, and speed of the shot. Congratulations on reaching 50K subscribers, and look forward to future episodes on your channel. Perhaps one show you might do in the future is ways for a tall person (like myself) to be able to stay down on the shot longer... especially since my center of gravity is relatively high and I almost naturally want to 'pop up' during the follow through of the shot.

Hey Chris, fellow APA player here as well as fellow Software Engineer. Greetings from NC! I'm a SL5 in both 8-ball and 9-ball. One of the most useful videos that you have provided was actually around one of the most difficult shots in pool, the break. My 9 ball game has gotten a lot better by having a little more control around where the head ball will travel. Still trying to figure out exactly how much power I should be putting behind the shot. In 8 ball However, I keep finding myself going back to the classic 'try to put the 8 ball in on the break' break (shoot at 2nd ball behind head ball, 8 in corner or opposide side pocket). Would love to see another in-depth video on breaking, maybe discuss the amount of power you recommend putting behind the shots you demo'd for us originally. Keep up the great content, and congrats on 50K subs.

I fully agree. Chris has a way of explaining so it makes sense. I've just recently picked up the cue again, after like a 20 year break. Needed to refresh the skills I once had and after watching a lot if these lessons my game is up to date again. Well, not the shotmaking oc, I used to play 4-6 hrs a day almost daily... so the instinct isn't really that great yet but.... patterns, game plans etc improved greatly after watching these vid's

Great video! Pre-shot routine is something I've been working on. It definitely helps. My aim is better, and balance during the shot cause you're aware of your stance. It's also helping me with slowing down my backswing and smoothing out my transition to accelerating through the stroke. I find I have better all around cue ball control since I started implementing these steps into my game.

I don't always agree with all your tips in being a better pool player, however i have found your instruction very helpful and very understandable. You are obviously very good and I appreciate the knowledge you share, very nice! I just watched the video about your pre-shot routine, that is the part of my game that i struggle on. Thank you for sharing, i will certainly be copying that routine. I wish we could play against each other, to see what other things I could pick from your brain. Keep posting videos and I'll keep watching, Oh yeah keep being Awesome!

Thanks Chris! Very good topic, developing a pre-shot routine made a big difference in my consistency shot to shot, match to match and day to day. Plus, if you end up having issues, you can often trace it back to something you are leaving out of your pre-shot rountine. (Must admit though when feeling in stroke I will one time a shot for intimidation purposes but only after following the preshot routine all the way up to the practice strokes since if your routine is right, you can shoot the shot with your eyes closed, hmmm, which is another way to check how your preshot routine is doing. Ok, rambling, sigh, really looking forward to the pool halls opening back up!

Thanks Lil Chris for the lessons! I know it takes a long time to get better but I really try hard to get simple shot down but when I go into a game with someone it’s like I beaver shot before! I’m not going to give up I’m in it for the long run!

Great video. I've also played with guys who don't take any practice strokes. Most of them are average players, but I know one guy who gets down, lines up his shot, adjusts his front and back hands, then shoots with no practice strokes. It blows my mind how good he is. I would miss every time.
