Traveled thru Kentucky years ago trying to find husbands grandmothers grave in Litchfield. Every cemetery we walked through had many, many babies-toddlers-young children. We were surprised but shouldn’t have been. Entire families died within days of each other. Must have been disease that wiped everyone out. Graves were from later part of 1800’s to 1980’s. Sad indeed

I just visited the grave my of two year old uncle who passed in 1937at the age of two from a fall. It disturbed my grandmother so much that she went to an institution for many years. My father was five and moved away with his father who passed ten years later. He then went to live with an aunt and in me so he lied about his age and joined the army meeting my mother. Sadly he passed at age 35. I don't know know where my grandparents are buried and am searching. I have no other relatives from my fathers family. It was comforting to visit little Uncle Bobby. It imagined my dad scooping him up in his arms in heaven.

Presented in good taste, with the full impact of the horrible event achieved without faux-drama and silly music. Very well done. New Zealand has had its share of tragedies around abandoned gold mine shafts, some vertical, but all known ones have been capped. It is the unknowns that are occasionally discovered in ways most unfortunate.

@@FacesoftheForgotten that is great, I am grateful that you are doing these. I just want to share a little about my paternal grandmother Irma. She was sick almost all her life. Her lungs were brittle. She had a lot of pneumonia when she grew up. Managed to find my grandfather Harald and they had two boys. While my grandfather was working both on their farm and as a mechanic she raised the kids and took care of the animals. Dont know exactly what year, but she got another lung infection wich lead to another pneumonia that nearly killed her. But she survived. Only to contract TBC and had to stay åt a sanatorium. How she lived thru that and got to go home is just miracuolus. By that time her lungs were very very damaged and when she AGAIN got an infection they realized that she had cancer. At the end of her life she was so weak she couldnt even get out of bed. It must have been a relief för her when she passed away åt 56 years of age. OH! My maternal grandmother Lydia was born 1919. She met my grandfather Manfred when they were building a road passning by the tiny village she lived in. They were very very poor in the beginning. But grandfather saved money so they could move and build a house 15 km from a little town. There they got marriedcand had 5 children. It was t always easy för them. Manfred was an alcoholic and a gambler, spending on pay day.. But when the fifth child, my mother came a long, he quit drinking. Them two raised 3 boys and 2 girls, one of wich would grow up and become the vice president of the EU. She was also the swedish minister of foreign affärs, almost became our stadsminister (like president I guess) but she didnt want that possision. And when she åt first started in our swedish goverment she was the youngest women ever to do that. Granpa Manfred passed in 1994. But Lydia lived all the way and was about to turn 90 when she passed...
