Absolutely! We have adopted 6 rescues over the last 26 years. Our last two were blacks because the adoption center was overloaded with black kittens.

I don't know HOW they can ever trust someone again though, but they do.... ( 2 Fancy rats rescued out of the trash....one never was trusting at all, but the other one RAN towards every human, sat on your foot, tapped on it and stretched up like:" pick me up !" He then inspected your nose, eyes, ears, rings, necklaces, etc and if you pet him, he nibbled - very gently- and licked your hand like a tiny puppy. I MISS YOU HOLMES. ( obviously named after Sherlock Holmes) He never had much interest in other rats, so it was difficult to pair him after an operation where the 2 boys - neutered-suddenly didn't like each other. I had not enough time to go through the whole introduction process again, sadly.
