"Sorry" to headphone users: Most of the footage is shot with a GoPro and it seems that this camera picks up a very low tone from the Engine Room. Cannot filter that out. Will look for a solution.
ENGLISH (Nederlands hieronder):
The weather forecast on VHF 1, mentioned 'poor visibility' for the whole Markermeer (700 km2) and IJsselmeer (1.100 km2) area. But what a beautiful day, so I decided to lift anchor and head for the historical city Enkhuizen and the locks of Kornwerderzand. But was that a wise decision?
The answer on that question you'll find in this video.
Be sure to watch to the end for more of this comical sailing guy.
I hope you enjoy this one, leave me a comment (I would love to hear from you) and as always, thank you for your support - much love to you all

Funny enough sharing my boat trip feels less personal than what you (and many others by now) ask from me. I have a question: I hardle ever watch the walk-through vids of boats on YT. Stanley wants to know what module I used to create a fog horn that sounds every 30 seconds for 5 seconds, so in the Dutch text above you find the hyperlink of the module I bought.

For a long time I thought the € 3,000.- investement for a radar (cheapest searadar verion) is quite a lot of money if you only should use it 3x a year. BUT... since I started sailing in the early mornings and late afternoons in winter, radar would give ease of mind. So that investement is on the list.

Henk -- I really enjoy your upbeat attitude, good photography, and boat handling. Here in the USA, one would not need the certificates and licenses you showed the police. What is involved regarding course work and training if one is Dutch and wants to own and operate a yacht like yours?
@MVLadyLiselot
@MVLadyLiselot Жыл бұрын
Hi Stan, well it's because of my broad history that I gathered some licenses. When the boats is longer than 15m, OR/AND it's speeds exceeds 20km/h, one must have a boating license level 1 (AND the boat needs a certain certificate with registration No shown). If you use that boat at sea and some great lakes/open water, you must have boating license level 2. If you have a VHF on board you need VHF license level 1 and if that VHF also has DSC, you need VHF license level 2. BUT... then many boats are shorter than 15, have a slow speed and no VHF, so ANYBODY can drive that boat. Just buy it, drop it into the water and off you go. No knowledge needed or tested. So in Summer I see "I have nu clue what I am doing right here" attitude all the time. ;-) My horn works fine and produces a sound 100dB+.

Well, the UK is not open at all. Especially now that the UK is no longer a member of Europe and has no chengen connection, it is a disaster for sailors with a British passport to sail in Europe for longer than a certain time. Has to do with numerous visa rules. Really annoying for British sailors. Do a search here on YT and you'll probably find more about it. "Sailing Fair Isle" is a channel from a British couple who are having trouble with that. The tax letter is only a small part of the documents that you must have when you go to sea. Sailing away is no problem. Returning to England is a very different story.

In the US you do not need a license to drive a boat unless it is for commercial purposes. I am surprised from the comments below that the Schengen countries do not have a common boating standard. I was also surprised that during the police check, they asked for so many documents including a proof of VAT? Most police checks in the US are for checking safety equipment such as life preservers for each person onboard and flares.
@MVLadyLiselot
@MVLadyLiselot 2 жыл бұрын
Yes, we Dutchies love regulations and licences. Flares are checked when one is at sea. That's because we have two large lakes where one can wander around without being noticed and that's it. Life preservers are checked when one has a 'fast' boat (20km/h)

Hello Stewart, welcome! well if you have seen my other video's you know that the Dutch weather can change from day to day. Congrats on the new boat. What chartplotter does that one have or will you be using paper charts? Go find "Waterkaart" (paid) app, the programmer is a nerd and very correct in all info. For weather prediction I use Windfinder. The benefit in that app is that you can find (gps) your spot and see the wind direction (a must when on anchor) and speed.

Mvg Felix

Hey Frank, is it 90% throttle steering? I would say "When maneuvering I prefer throttle steering" mainly because the boat responds way faster than with the rudder. A little port throttle make to bow go starboard and vice versa. Or, a little less port throttle, will make the bow go port. Much less 'work' then turning the wheel constantly. When I drive the boat in a strait course And using 1 or 2 engines), I use the fixed or a plotted course of the autopilot.

Why do you need a customs certificate?
@MVLadyLiselot
@MVLadyLiselot Жыл бұрын
To show that the VAT is paid. When you sail just in your own country, no officer will ask you for the VAT certificate. The moment you are at sea and return to your contry, customs can step on board and say "How long do you have this boat, and have you paid VAT", since they have seen many people buying a boat abroad (cash) with paying VAT. So even being Dutch, I must proof to customes, the moment that I enter Dutch water and they come along side, that originally the boat is brought to The Netherlands and the owner then paid the necesarry VAT.

Nice video. You need a license to drive a 49' boat in Netherlands? What are the licensing rules per feet or meters in Netherlands?
@Frank-cr1uy
@Frank-cr1uy 2 жыл бұрын
License rule: above 15 meter / 49.21 feet. And for every boat below this length but capable speed above 20 km/h / 10.79 knots. You need the liccense 1 (ICC for inland waters) on the Ijsselmeer you need additional license 2 (ICC for inland and coastal waters) For VHF you always need a license. (also for the vhf equipment separately) In an early video it was said that MV LadyLiselot is 15,5 meter, so license needed. It's always good the get a license offcourse.

Lady Liselot's lenght is a gray area. All documents state a 14.90m. But, that's without the swim platform. That platform is 60cm and the 38Kg Mantus anchor on the bow also sticks out 50cm. So there is a difference in what is stated on the various official documents and what the actual length is. With ships of 16, 17, 18 m and longer you can see with the naked eye that they are longer, and then it is somewhat easy to determine the length. I haven't heard any stories about the enforcers or police taking a tape measure and measuring the ship. The speed is another story. As Frank says, you need a boat license for every floating vehicle that can go faster than 20 km per hour. So also those hoverboards that skim over the water with foils: it goes faster than 20 km per hour; so a license is required. In 1999 I sailed solo to England and the Channel Islands in a 3 month trip and in preparation for that I obtained license 1 and 2 and did coastal navigation. At that time you were already modern if you had a device that gave you GPS coordinates so that you could draw your location on a paper map with a pencil. Although that was a long time ago, it is useful that I have acquired that basis at the time. At the same time, those who don't have that experience also reach any shore they want.
@sm6wet
@sm6wet 2 жыл бұрын
@@Frank-cr1uy Thank you Frank. It is interesting to see that we have different rules within Europe. Sweden is a bit different. They recently tried to change the rules to a 15m rule in Sweden but the outcome was only to determine the difference between when a boat needs to be registered or not, and had absolutely no relevance in the licensing. Just for reference in Sweden, anyone, regardless of age or any kind of license can captain a boat that is below the combination size of 12 meters long and 4 meters wide without any license. That means if you have a boat that is 200 meter long and 3.98 meters wide you can sail or drive it without any license. First license is Förarbevis, it basically means "Drivers Evidence" and is a form of drivers license. It does however have or give you any permissions at all. There is no requirement to have this for captaining any kind of boat, no police will look for it. It is just a form of proof of competence. The only thing is, in order to take the next step. To take the "Kustskeppare" - Coastal skipper, you need the first one and a few hours of practical experience that is signed off in order to be eligible for the next step, Kustskeppare. Now, the Kustskeppare gives you basically all you need to captain a non-commercial vessel of any size and gross-tonnage (with a twist) as long as it is for private use and it has less than 12 passangers. Any boat/ship of any size having more than 12 passangers is automatically considered being in commercial use and than it is needed "Fartygsbefäl Klass VIII", meaning Ships officer class 8. The gross tonage is a bit of a gray area. Yes, you can drive any size weight of boat you like. Only there is regulations of what gross tonnage needed when going into harbour when you need to use a local support pilot or not. And when using a pilot you would need a "Fartygsbefäl Klass VIII". There is also an older type of license that is not given anymore called "Kustskepparexamen", meaning Coast skipper exam. It basically covers all up to "Fartygsbefäl Klass VIII". An no other license is needed. Then we have the same rules about VHF licensing. One need to be licensed to operate a marine VHF. However you can listen to it without a license. You also have to pay an annual fee just to own a VHF. Since AIS and also Ebirp is considered a VHF you need to have a license to have one as well which is kind of strange as it is safety equipment There is an additional license for a marine SSB with additional fees to pay to the telecom authorities. You can als take extra classes and exams to use radar. Now, radar can be used without the certificate but then you dont know the rules. There are rules, like example at fog, if you have a radar, you must use it. Failure to do so can give fines. If you have not studied the radar rules you will get fined for various things. There are many more types of certificates but mainly, if you take the Swedish inter coastal you can basically sail anything of size, as long as it is private use, around the world.

@@MVLadyLiselot It is interesting how they consider the swim platform and anchor part of the boat. To my understanding, in most countries, anything that is removable should not affect the overall length but then, one is always under the power of the ideas of how the authorities interprets the rules, and the rules are often very vaguely written. I was once looking at a boat that was 23.97, but it was without the nearly 2m long swim plattform. The shipyard says it is no problem but if the Swedish authorities have their own ideas I end up with a ship and not a boat and it is going to be so much more regulations and red tape and annual inspections that it was just not worth it for me. We have classes for manuvering for high speed boats but not sure there are regulations yet. They are trying to enforce some kind of regulations mainly because there have been some accidents with jetskis hitting people swimming far out on open water, duh. But cant seem to find the rules. I do think they are talking about something much more than 20kmh. In 22 May comes the new rules. The only rule was from 2019 where you have to be 15 years old to drive a jetski, nothing about other boats. Those who have any of the other boating certificate classes are however excempt from this new "speed license" that is mainly for jetskis.
