LaPlante is pronounced with silent e. Most Canadian names are pronounced as if in French not Spanish. She along with Alissa White-Gluz, Melissa Bonny, Vicky Psarakis, and of course, Tatiana Schmayluk are the ruling goddesses of clean+harsh vocals imho. And you just can't fake it in a one -take or live show. As you noticed it's the transition back and forth between false and true vocal chords that is quite difficult to do very quickly. And mixing the fry and false at all, as Tatiana can do, is quite risky and likely damaged Angela Gossow's voice.

I feel like everyone sees Courtney say "I did it" at the end of Rule of Nines and says "I want to be her friend" And you're right about her screaming, it's kind of unique because you can still hear notes. Most harsh vocals don't have any pitch to them.
@matttake48522 жыл бұрын
I'm pretty late on this, btw she is doing false chord screams (I think), for the most part she is doing the tone called Yelling, you can hear that a lot in many new school melodic hardcore bands, and it is not that unusual to hear the full voice here and there, is a cool adding that not everyone can do, I had to learn it as it was a thing a part because if isn't done properly it can become very dangerous very fast. My english is not good at all but I hope you understood what I meant. I suggest to listen to the song "Ghost" from the band Counterparts to get what I'm saying, the singer does pretty much the same thing. Obviously she is amazing in the last part of Circle With Me and I don't get how tf can someone be able to switch that fast and still be in tone on the cleans, but for the rest of the song, is not that unusual, that's all

If you want to hear a performance of a female vocalist, that is so raw and emotionally powerful as can be, you should watch a performance of Dr. Otep Shamaya Esq. . Otep - My Confession (live for proving she does it really, studio for the full experience with better understandable lyrics) Otep was the woman, that inspired Tatiana from Jinjer to get into extreme vocals. She thought, "Dude is really good!" until her friend who introduced her to this band told her, that it's a woman.

I really enjoyed your reaction (as I did your first one), but this one struck a chord as you said certain things that echo exactly my thoughts. I've never enjoyed any band as much as I do Spiritbox, who I came across around two years ago, first hearing Holy Roller. I remember thinking wow, this is too heavy for me (not then having very much, if any, experience of metal) - yet immediately had to listen again as I realised I really enjoyed its energy (the creepy official video that the band filmed themselves is also fun). I explored their other music and couldn't find a track I didn't like - but Rule of Nines is still my special favourite - it's such a beautiful and intense track. We women can sometimes be the harshest critics of other women, but just like you said, Courtney is such a genuinely lovely person that you find yourself wanting to be her friend - every interview I've seen or read backs this up - she is completely honest and genuine, and her husband Michael Stringer is also a lovely guy from what I see and they are such a great couple. Somehow, Spiritbox tracks have a particular effect on me - I get goosebumps every time, and whilst almost everyone cries at the official music video of Constance (the original release as opposed to the more recent acoustic one, which is beautiful in its own right) and I do too, I also get happily tearful at (for example) the swelling chorus of Circle With Me - and I might have imagined it, but it seemed to me that you did too! One thing I remember reading about the live one-take of Circle With Me - Courtney mentioned that she is so self-critical that she filmed the one-take five times, pretty much in quick succession, and decided she liked the fourth one best! Amazing vocal stamina...

Screaming, one way is to learn the fundamentals of Kargyraa. (other types of throat singing will help too) It's not that hard to figure out after you understand that. (assuming you of course have decent breathing/support) Learning to scream effortlessly, (which is very important + the different techniques to get different sounds) that's the time consuming part. Like with singing it's a matter time and consistent good habit building practice to build it up and get that muscle memory going.

you can react to "Spiritbox - Blessed Be [Live for SiriusXM] | Next Wave Virtual Concert Series", in the world of metal there are many super talented women, after listening to "spiritbox" and "jinjer", I think you are ready , to listen to anything, you can listen to "nightiwish" and their songs live with their current vocalist "floor janson", or their first vocalist "tarja", (I recommend you listen to them live), "floor" did a great show at their concert in germany in 2013, you can also listen to the live concerts of "arch enemy" (with their current vocalist Alissa), so you can see the vocal capacity of these spectacular women, the concerts of "Tatiana" (jinjer) , they are also spectacular, you can also react to "Angela Gossow" (Arch Enemy's first vocalist) in her concert in japan, so many names of women with so much talent and songs that I can give you that this would take too long, keep in mind those names, believe me he doesn't tell you pcionas, there is also the band, "epica" with simone, etc etc.. etc....

How do you do the quick-change from clean/harsh/clean? You do it by employing two very different parts of the vocal tract. Just about anyone can do a simple harsh vocal by dropping back into a comfy couch, and exhaling (without engaging the cords) and make that sound that signifies 'exhaling out the end of a tough day'.... we've all done it. Now, sing something as you drop back, allow the harsh to escape, then start signing again. Don't push it... just let it happen.

His clean vocals are absolutely amazing, and he's mastered every type of growl and scream. He's known to switch voices completely mid-song or even mid-sentence. His voice bottoms at A1, and he's hit into the 8th and possibly 9th octave live (debated on whether or not falsetto and whistle notes count, but he belted out the G#7 from the diaphragm). Check Vinushka eng sub LIVE HD to see how insane his vocal abilities are.
