Popeye NES Speedrun OG WR (

This is a speedrun of Popeye for NES. This is the NTSC version. I completed the run in 3:34.52
I consider this a world record for this game because it is the best timed non-TAS speed run I have found on youtube. If you know of a faster run with footage please let me know.

I have this game on a famiclone psp bootleg console named "Slim Statin" and I gotta say this game is a lot of fun in my opinion. Awesome speed run!

That last part on level 3 when you're on the bottom of the boat, with Bluto above you and a buzzard on your level, that was almost always the part where Bluto jumped down after throwing his bottles and got me every time. Curious if the items you have to catch fall randomly or if the pattern is the same. Its been so long since I played this I can't remember.

I bet they we're selling that for like 40$ in the 80's. For a 3 minutes game that one guy in his bedroom could have coded in 1 day.

Its all relative. That one person would have built the engine and all the game logic. Today with the power of commercial engines like Unity one person can also make a AAA game all by themselves but only be responsible for writing the game logic so in a way making games today is easier for a solo developer than in the 80s.

Don't feel too sad about it. I enjoyed playing this game in my free time. It is a relatively short game and I got good at it pretty quickly. Most of my time goes happily towards my family and career. I like playing weird and obscure games from time to time. Hopefully this insight will improve your outlook on the "fate of humanity."
