Yes on the large island and coffee station. Oh and the large pantry too! My wish list items are large walls of windows, two fridge, two dishwashers, etc. ❤

Tap that dispenses set amount of water with programmable buttons, stove controls that have the same layout as the stove itself (no touch controls!), a place with a view to prep ingredients, a grow box for mushrooms and/or herbs, and finally the will-power to keep it all clean and tidy as time goes on.

After cooking out of a small, dated kitchen at the back of the house for more than a decade, feeling cut off like a gully slave whenever we had dinner guests, I finally had enough. Our architect was awesome, I sent him my renovation wish list, and forwarded him my entire Pinterest board which I’ve been pinning for almost 10 years. So far he has granted my every wish on the plans he’s drawn for us. I wanted the kitchen to be in the middle of the house, hopefully with sea view, with direct access to the living room and dinning room, as well as the back garden (as I’m also planning a tea garden), the dinning room I want it to be big enough to house our 3m table plus a double sided fireplace, there is also to be an informal, morning light filled breakfast nook, a separate walk-in pantry/scullery, separate laundry room (I hated doing laundry in my kitchen), and two islands (one is fixed, in the middle of the kitchen, and another one is on casters with built-in tabletop Korean grill so we can push it wherever we need it); whole house filtration system, so every tap (including showers) will have filtered quality ionized water.

I'm obsessed with your videos and am slowly making my way backwards through them :) One question: I asked my current design team about creating a larder that could house a coffee maker and microwave. They said if you have electrical things or cooking things in a space that can be enclosed, there are fire and moisture concerns. You'd have to also have an automatic shut-off when the door gets closed for safety reasons. Obviously this might be a Canada specific requirement, but I wondered if that was the case in the UK?

We plan on turning a small butler's pantry into a coffee/tea station with a boiling water tap and small bar sink. No espresso machine, just a burr grinder. carafe, french press and tea pots.

Wow I’ve won the jackpot, haha- have got a brand new kitchen with boiling water tap over a workstation sink, and a slim 30cm pull out larder (above worktop level; 2 drawers below). All in a tiny city centre kitchen. I think tap, larder and a lazy Susan corner cabinet were among the most expensive choices in the whole project but I’m enjoying them a lot. On my wish list: more space….

Amazing! Although expensive, they're some great space saving and functional items. Long term/day-to-day they'll pay off! Enjoy that boiling water tap! 😁

I am redoing my kitchen next year and I have a couple of things on your list: workstation sink, drinks fridge, coffee/tea area. I am also putting in a pot filler tap at the stove but my major want (that I will put in as I will be selling my home in 6 and a half years) is in cabinet and drawer lighting...so anytime a drawer or cabinet door is opened the interior will light up.
@kitchinsider2 жыл бұрын
Ohh, in cabinet lighting, very nice! Sounds like it's going to be a great kitchen. I can't tempt you with a boiling water tap? 😁

I wish I had more room and more MONEY! I got most of what I wanted in my new house, but more lineal footage would have been nice. And as an American, I wish I could afford integrated appliances - but with the ridiculous costs for that in the US, that would have literally, not kidding, DOUBLED the cost of my IKEA kitchen. The whole kitchen, not just the appliances. I do have a workstation sink, tall pantry cabinet, coffee/breakfast station, wall oven and induction cooktop, And a pretty good sized island.

Fab series of videos. They’re so enriching. I’ve just pushed the button on a complete house re-build and am starting to think about the kitchen. Aside from the boiling water tap (which is kinda a given these days), what gadgets or items does your heart cry for? Would love some inspiration. Or rather, what do you see as the next big item in kitchens in the next couple of years?
@milossimicsimo Жыл бұрын
At the moment I'm in process of designing my apartment as I want. I was surprised that most ot these items are on my list as well. Almost all of them except the coffee area, I do not drink coffee :D. I spent a lot of time designing, redesigning and all in circle :D but I hope that atm I have a plan to fit all that I want :D. Fingers crossed and wish me luck it will be that way :D! And btw, your videos and tips, helped a lot!!!! Thanks a lot! I would also add a bar-like area where wine glasses stand and it is illuminated. I found ideas where these are above built in oven and microwave. This kinda looks nice as practical element, but also add light and interesting contrast to the kitchen.

Hot water tap really takes up less energy than a kettle ??? Surprise surprise !
@keylime29982 жыл бұрын
Every item mentioned is on our wish list too. We are saving up now for a remodel. Our small American kitchen is to be expanded where the den used to be. That adjacent area we hope to make a wine & coffee bar with a small seating area. Because we also wish for a double oven, we lose our small pantry. We hope to steal space from another adjacent closet area. Now we just need $$$! Lastly, any ideas/considerations on recessed sinks in the island? Our only windows are opposite the island. I had an island sink before, but water went everywhere. We want the faucet dropped below the counters.
@Pandorash8 Жыл бұрын
I may be too late to help, but I’ve just read your comment and the first suggestion that comes to mind is that you have your sink and tap at counter height as normal, but then raise the seating component of your island to bar height. That way your guests are seated above your sink and most splashes would be caught by the back of the bar, if that makes sense. Basically, a two-tier island. Hope it all comes together for you xx

Under the counter microwave drawer it’s definitely on my list. Easily one of the ugliest utilitarian machines in the kitchen Can now be integrated and tucked away.

Kitchen island? My galley is 10'9" by 7'9", barely enough space for two people to pass by each other without physical intimacy issues. I'm planning to widen the doors to the breakfast room and the dining room, but that's the limit of the space I have available.

Hey Michael, I’m a follower from India. I am currently redoing my kitchen and your videos are so helpful . Thank you . I have a question for you , can you explain how the integrated built in dishwasher , oven , microwave etc fit in a cabinet? How much space does one need to leave so it looks flushed and also how to leave space for ventilation for any of these brands - Bosch , Samsung, KAFF , Siemens ? 🙏🏻🙂
@joshyv Жыл бұрын
Hi PB, they don't fit into a cabinet but are actually bought so they can be integrated. eg dishwasher can be purchased as free-standing or integrated. It's is then plugged in, housed and the cabinet door is attached to the front, microwave is bought with a housing unit etc. The end result is that it all ends up seamlessly integrated with the cabinetry. Hope that helps.

Thank you! I enjoyed this. Quick question...is the boiling water tap dangerous? It seems like it might be easy for someone to get scalded. Thanks again.
@kitchinsider2 жыл бұрын
Thanks Laura! I suppose there's always a level of danger but no more so than a kettle. Boiling water taps all have child safety locks/special ways to turn on the boiling water. You can't just turn the boiling tap on, there's always an extra step for safety. (hold button down then push, twist twice then push down etc...) Also, some are aerated (add air into the water flow) to help in case you run your hand underneath, it won't scald the same as a solid water flow.
@lauramiller61062 жыл бұрын
@@kitchinsider Thank you for the additional information. An extra step for safety makes so much sense, that I should have assumed it was part of the design. Looking forward to more of your videos.
