Hey Drew, did you realize Steven Wilson produced many of Opeth's albums? Next time you review an Opeth album from that part of their career listen for Steven Wilson's influence. In fact, Storm Corrosion is a band/album collaboration project between Mikael Akerfeldt and Steven Wilson, and it sounds nothing like either band, but genius and underappreciated (Drag Ropes). Maybe you already realized the close association between those two bands? But I know a few weeks ago when you reacted to Anesthetize for the first time you mentioned surprise that so many people were requesting that song in an Opeth review. That is the reason!

I'll continue my shouting out for you to check out Mastodon, their tracks Halloween, Jaguar God or The Last Baron for starters. Oh man, you like guitar riffs and groove, Mastodon have them both in loads :) Halloween is a great jumping off point, the last two albums have cleaner vocals and are, dare I say it, easier listening :) than the earlier stuff. Jaguar God is the kind of music that I didn;t think got made anymore and The Last Baron has a real beauty of a riff.

Nice reaction, it was funny seeing you laugh at the contrast in and between the lyrics and music :D If you think about it, though, it's actually really fitting as an illustration of both the psychopathic urges and the totally peaceful relation the narrator has to them. The problem with PT is that suggesting less than half their discography is really tough. The good thing about that is you can't really get it wrong. Anyway, IDK if it's quite "reaction vid material" but for me Chloroform is truly one of their best tracks. It's from the In Absentia recording sessions, though it wasn't originally included on the CD album. Hypnotic bass line, which gives a superb ambiance in combination with the hazy and almost dreamlike synth and vocals, great drums and amazing guitars by Steven. Peculiar, but really top notch. Cure for Optimism (from Recordings) is another excellent one with a very unique, haunting mood.

Sometime soon you should do Porcupine Tree's "The Sky Moves Sideways" (titletrack; best available version is the 34-minute '"Alternate Version" from the 2004 remaster double album), the opus magnum from PT's first phase - way more on the psychedelic rock side than on the metal side. It's absolutely trippy - the musical equivalent of Kubrick's Stargate sequence from 2001, full of surprises and great walls of sound. It's a different side of Steven Wilson (he has many, up to drone music like his fantastic side-project Bass Communion).
