I cannot tell you how much this show means to me. My parents and I would watch together whenever we could. I remember the times when my would yell out letting me know that Yan Can Cook is about to start, then I'd flop down in the living room floor huffing and puffing from running from who knows where lol. Greetings from the very tiny islands of Palau!

@seamusoflatcap4 жыл бұрын
I've never heard of this chef before and I imagine it's because it's American TV. Here in the UK we have a TV chef called Ken Hom. I remember watching his shows in the early 80s, that's what got me into trying to cook Chinese food.
@aplaceinthestars32074 жыл бұрын
@@seamusoflatcap Thanks for mentioning Hom, I found some classics posted from BBC Good Food (kzbin.info/www/bejne/pGbCgXihrtF1rqs). Yan's show was a US public broadcasting staple in the 80's, especially affiliated with the San Francisco area. I can't deny my fondness for Yan's penchant for showmanship, but I appreciate anyone who loves food and shares the knowledge (and make sense of the unbelievable array of Chinese sauces)

I bought a cast iron wok in 1982 and still have it, there's nothing to go wrong with it. It is cast iron and not steel, it's heavy and will rust in minutes if not cared for. I was taught the same seasoning method Yan uses except I was told to stir fry an onion as part of the method. Every time it's cleaned I heat it up to ensure its dry and then give it a thin coat of sesame oil to prevent rust. It looks like the seasoned one Yan showed.
