3000 miles into it with my Spyder RS and it’s an incredible car. Especially great here in SoCal. Have owned quite a few GT Porsches and this is my favorite. My 987.2 has the factory sport shift, it’s very good as is. I also have the factory sports exhaust and to be honest when making progress I keep it on quite, yes on occasion it’s nice to hear more noise but for me the 987.2 is about driving and if you’re cracking on a bit I don’t need the extra noise or more importantly want to draw attention to myself. Onto the stock brakes, one of the benefits of a 987.2 is a great driving experience for a relatively low cost of ownership staying stock and steel rather than carbon ceramics helps with that. Stock steel do feel soft but they do work and once you get use to them you start to see the benefit when on a bumpy, downhill wet road and you find a need to get speed off with control (track use might be different, but from experience on poor, wet tight backroads I’m very happy) Saving the big point to last - For me the 987.2 is all about driving experience, it’s a small car that you feel very connected to and that includes your connection to the outside with the roof off or as tested here with just the top cap on (and in a wet UK with just the top cap on is quite often) - This comparison video even picks up the difference between the 987.2 and later Spyders here, in the 718 you enter a safety and comfort first wrap round experience it may not be that noticeable when coming from your daily driver as you need to get into a 987.2 to really feel that enhanced openness and connection. 981/718 are close to modern cars the 987.2 has a touch of classic feel about it. Don’t get be wrong though, I’d like a 718 RS but it would be in addition to my 987.2 Spyder 😊

13:22 The Weissach package doesn't add the magnesium wheels on the GT4RS or Spyder RS. You need to spend and additional $16k on the magnesium wheels on top of the $14k Weissach package which pretty much just gives you exposed carbon bits (but it looks cool). Also I just watched Matt Farah's 3 way Porsche Spyder comparison video as well as Throttle House Spyder RS video and this is the perfect follow up video to those. I'm of the belief that the 718 Spyder RS falls into the IYKYK category: there will be many who think the top is fiddly and bothersome, there will be those who take exception to the lack of manual, and there will be those who think an RS product can't be for the street or topless. All this despite the fact that two of Porsche's greatest cars are "topless"- the Carrera GT and the 918 Spyder. Prior to winter hibernation I was only able to log around 200 miles on my '25 718 Spyder RS, but I can't get the grin off my face, I can't stop going out to the garage to look at it, and I expect there are a lot of sleepless nights between now and the end of March... One need only see the palpable emotion on every reviewer's face here on KZbin to realize how great this car truly is!

@leonardoluc6362 he said 981, the 2016. Not the 2011 987. It's not even a close competition between 981 and 982, 987 is a very distant 4th
@wrefordmiles3 ай бұрын
@@KArione-z2kdistant 4th by what measure or viewpoint ? Of course a 718RS being a newer car will score higher on several aspects but scored on driving enjoyment those that have experienced it recognise that the 987.2 Spyder offers something equal or more to many current alternatives and for a 4th of the price. Evo magazine retested the 987.2 Spyder in 2020, gave it 5 stars and summarised y saying “I can’t with confidence say I’ve enjoyed another Porsche more” Of course if you were hypothetically presented with a line up of all the Spyders and you were asked which one you’d take, you’d go for the RS. But if you could only take the 987.2 (which is the real world reality for many people) those that know smile in the knowledge that when you’re on that empty, challenging backroad with no one to impress but yourself you will be having as much if not more enjoyment. A distant 4th is for hypothetical chatting, in the real world the 987.2 Spyder despite now being 12 years old is right up there if your measure/viewpoint is driving enjoyment

@@wrefordmiles By first hand experience. The RS is obviously the top dog. I put (and so do many many others) the 981 above the 718. The 3.8L is just better. The suspension, the body lines, the absence of black plastic, the 3 ecu options, and honestly sapphire blue. There is a reason 718 GT4CS uses the 3.8 and not the 4.0. The 718 as may flaws as it has in comparison, is still miles ahead of the 987. Ok it has car play, thats it, but ther 981 has bluetooth and you can add bluetooth to a 987. I once had a 987.1 with a sharkwerks RS370 build that would run circles around the spyder and was able to do all the trim the same way minus the humps (because I didnt want to buy the deck lid). The 987 just isnt special, its just a dressed up S. I've driven all 4 plus the RS60 spyder edition 987.1 aka the bastard spyder.

That 987 really needs some proper wheels. Even OEM ones are great but those 997.1 Turbo style ones are not it. I worry those are heavy as well. Also correction here this Spyder RS does NOT have the Weissach Package. You can tell because the intakes are not carbon fiber, and the seats don't have the logo on the headrests. One theme is that it is very loud but less so with the roof off. I would have loved to get your view on this. Anytime a roof is on everything is louder in the cabin. I have had many convertibles and even the audio systems are so much louder with the roof on vs open air top. As far as the ride I had a GT3 RS and sold it after a year it was too harsh on public roads. Could not daily drive it. curious if this Spyder RS is too harsh to comfortably daily. Don't want to spend 230k and do same as my GT3 RS and sell it in a year for a big loss.

@@Ryem3 That's silly mate, a sub-100K plaid is faster than both your Artura and Huracan, but that doesn't make it a better car. Also there is no way that the Spyder RS would feel slow compared to your Huracan, it feel roughly the same, maybe even the sensation of speed might be greater because of the sound and feel, and any real difference in speed would come at high speed. Also also talking value while owning a McLaren is hilarious considering they're terminal in both reliability and resale value. Also also also none of those are track cars, but Spyder RS is probably the best for that as well. Also also also also you could buy your Huracan experience for 1/2 price with R8 performance if you want the best value. It's easily a $200K+ car now, and as more people get to know it, outside of talking shit online, they'll continue to climb. It's as fast as a Ferrari Enzo, sounds like a literal racecar, and has one of the most perfect interiors alongside superb reliability, and extendable warranty to 15 years/200K km. Assuming the world moves in the same direction as it is moving now - electrification and stricter CO2 norms, it will go down as one of the best cars ever made.

Slightly confused about calling the deafening exhaust blare from the 987 a "flat six howl". If anything loud exhausts like that reduce the flat sixness. The flat six 'howl' is induction based, not. exhaust blare based.
@technom35983 ай бұрын
Ughhh... No. Induction noise doesnt really matter on the configuration of the 6 cylinders. Its just sucking it in has zero zero zero zero to do woth engine lay out. What he daid is correct.
@flat6croc3 ай бұрын
@@technom3598 Ugghhh, yes. Flat sixes have a very distinct induction howl. But thanks for your input!
@villaman4818Ай бұрын
This is totally correct. The howl is from the engine getting into its peak power band and the induction etc…so whilst I love the exhaust note, the natural unsullied engine sound is nirvana. Happy driving.
