I just recently took my front struts out and replaced the adjusting collars. They were corroded together because the adjusting nut is aluminum and the ring that it threads up over is steel. Another great video from you sir 👍

Ah I assumed they were both aluminium…. That explains the corrosion! Thanks for the comment :)

I think that should have worked and it will now sit better. I commented in the past that I fitted complete S4 front struts with spring to my 83S, in my case it was because the original springs had sagged and it sat probably 2cm too low. I just left the adjustable collar where it was and the cars sits perfectly now. Luckily the climate here is better and no salted roads, so the used struts were uncorroded.

I'm pretty sure those (non red) shocks are done. I don't think you should be able to push them down like that despite how they rebound. Great work

Oh I thought it was fine to be able to move them, as long as they rebound. There were stiff, I’m just surprisingly strong, honest :)

The lower control arm rear bolts should not be torqued up until the suspension has settled. The front needs to be pulled down for a little while. The alternative for those who like to live on the edge is to take it for a drive for a couple of miles! I believe the purpose of this is not to stress the rubber bush. The difficulty of pulling the front down, given my equipment/situation is the reason i have not replaced the shocks myself. I do admire your determination to progress the project.

Thanks Graham. Yes I have not torqued anything up yet (and will do the dangerous drive&settle technique). I researched a lot about the suspension before this video, which led me down this path - the 79’ springs on 89’ dampers was not a good combo (yes I had driven many miles for it to settle) :)

you'll have to drive a few miles for the suspension to settle properly. One of the most annoying parts of the 928 is the suspension's need to compress onto the bump stops to reach the set ride height.

Hey, yes it will take a while to finally settle. Ive bumped it uip&down, which makes it drop a fair bit... but is it enough? :)

Yeah I know, will drive when it’s not raining. Bumping it helps (it dropped 2cm)

Next time use a spray paint and paint the position of the eccentrics before you remove the lower control arm.

Thanks Stefan, great idea. This time I didn't remove the eccentrics, so no problem - but I did a year ago, so this tip would have been really useful!
