I love when an random oddity stands out with no obvious signs is definitively solved! I bet you're learning a lot!

Hi Andy. Crazy amount… each bit teaches something new. Especially “torque up nuts”

Your patience (again) is admirable. Good that you tracked it down. Yes, non-interference relieves some worry of the timing belt going, but if that gear came off, that wouldn’t have been good. A new wiring harness could eliminate many electrical gremlins. It did for me. Nice work!

Hi David, yes very happy it was an easy fix. Wiring doesn’t seem to be too bad. I’m slowly working my way through it all and it’s pretty logical

Oh Michael, lucky I did ! although being a non-interference engine it wouldn't matter too much, but hey, better fixed.

Hi Todd, Good to see your getting along with the 928,always something to tinker with✅ Haven’t progressed with mine sadly (health issues) quite the story but I’m staying focused Just a tip with your bonnet lift struts Todd,turn them so the shafts are pointing down and the body is at the top The reason for that,they dampen on extension,and shaft and main seal are lubricated Struts are my business (25 yrs)Strutwise Cheers Frank✅

Yes that was close, good dagnosing to get to the issue, did think way back that it would be easy to forget to torque a bolt when only done up loose But she's sounding good, and I'll bet you are getting to be a gun a pulling things off and puttng back on

I had a sinking feeling for a while…. I suspected something terminal inside the engine. Happy to find it though and very comical that the nut was sat next to it!

The hydraulic lifters are a bit of a week spot. They're way too expensive to replace. When I was rebuilding my engine, I used a syringe to remove the oil through the small hole in the side and put new in. It seemed to make a difference. Could be deluding myself.

Nice work. When looking at the oil gear I saw that the bolt tightening the power steering bracket might have also been loose. Perhaps that was a different bolt. Perhaps you meant to loosen it.

Well done. I can say that each time I build an engine I'm always nervous I'm going to have missed something exactly like you did. It does happen and you went about it the correct way on finding the issue. Just an FYI, you do not need that split washer on the oil pump.

It's not big and clever to be wise after the event, but a useful practice is to always mark torqued bolts with a paint stick when they're done. Then it's just a quick visual check. Saved me once or twice.

100% better for sure Todd. It's hard to pinpoint that tapping from where I'm sitting, I immediately thought tappets, it might be a sticky lifter or a dodgy injector. Try touching the fuel rails with the engine running Todd as you'll feel it for sure. If the tick is coming from the front of the engine stethoscope the alternator or take the belt off! However, didn't all 928 have this ticking when they were running? Kudos to you, my friend.
@MrToddgibbs
@MrToddgibbs Жыл бұрын
Hi Terry. I think it’s a tappet. It stopped after a few minutes and hasn’t done it since. I’m claiming it “fixed” :) been out again today for 2 mile drive and it was very good

This car has the CIS fuel injection system so no fuel rails and the injectors are incapable of clicking. They "sing" whilst working.
