Porsche 992.2 GTS - Has Hybrid technology killed the 911?

Think that this car is the only hybrid I would be interested in actually owning. No great weight penalty either.

Correct, only around 50kg heavier than the base model.

This hybrid is not like other hybrid models as it only electrifies the turbo charger. So the charger doesn’t need to „wait“ for a certain exhaust pressure to build up first. This also means that at least a current GT3 cannot have this kind of hybrid tech …as it is naturally aspirated! This fact could have been better researched by 888MF BEFORE bringing a vid like this… sorry

@@reinhardtkkyes, you are right. There are actually two electric motors : one for the charger and one in the PDK which brings the additional 40 horsepower… I overlooked that at first ✅

I think hybrid is being broadly used.. yes it has a electric motor but this is no traditional hybrid. The electricity helps boost and basically gets rid of turbo lag. It isn’t no electric only mode or nothing

Great review. At first I wasn’t sure about the hybrid set up, but having driven it a lot over the last few weeks, it’s a game changer. It hasn’t lost any character but only gained in performance. I think you’re right about the base model being better for actual everyday use. But for me it’s just outs smile on face every time I drive it.

Billion dollar company like Porsche will never make a mistake with 911 upgraded hybrid hydroegen dilithium -each upgrade will be better , naturally the nostalgia crowd will say things but lets be honest , The new Porsche 911 is amazing

I tend to agree with you. Porsche know how to make great cars. They also offer a manual gearbox which is rare these days.

I see a lot of people in the comments saying things like “they’ve ruined the 911”… because no manual, because XYZ, it’s all nonsense. If you want the old analogue feeling etc, get an older 911. If you want the latest and greatest, embrace the innovation.

I hope to test drive one soon, hopefully in good weather conditions. It is faster and the drive train seems to be more responsive, which is great achievement. On track it was only two tenth of second faster than the 992.1 GTS (Autobild Sport Cars). So in fact you get a faster accelerating but heavier car with a lot complex technology. But I have to see myself how it feels. Yesterday I saw the first new GTS on the road.

The GTS does look like a good car, it would be a great car if it had a manual, but for this money there are so many really fantastic cars available and it will depreciate like a brick in swimming pool.

I do think that at £155,000 there is a lot of competition but Porsche have put together a wonderful package with the new 992.2 GTS.

No it won't depreciate. It is still at its core an ICE car with innovative supporting electric components purely to enhance performance while meeting newer regulatory requirements. It does not suffer from the longer term drawbacks of other forms of electrification. At least in the US, it is Taycans (and for reasons I don't fully understand, Panameras) that have been seeing big drops in value. Carreras are holding up well and this new GTS has features that should keep it very desirable. It is getting very enthusiastic reviews like this one on both sides of the pond.

The 992.2 GTS does give the GT4 RS a run for its money and dare I say would be better as a daily driver. However, for weekends drives the GT4 RS is one of the best Porsche models ever made.

The 992.2 will be an excellent car, but I think the last of the great 911's will be the 992.1. These were still predominantly analog, had no hybrid bs, had fewer filters that muffle sound and add weight, and had less nanny controls.

It's not really an hybrid. The electric motor is just there to spin the turbo, so no turbo lag. You don't drive on electric motor. You don't charge any battery.

You buy a911 because you want"a real 91q" (naturally aspirated). Was blasphemy to add turbos to a Ferrari... You just DON'T!!! e in g. Ferrari 812👍

But some of these 911's still tempt me ( as a second car ) even though they have 100HP less than my Tesla . I can't stop looking at them.

(2) The 911 is no longer a sports car, its a boulevard cruiser (3) Anything Porsche makes with a battery suffers horrendous depreciation (4) The GTS is heavy (5) You didn't appear particularly excited by either car, in fact it could have been a review for any other mid tier german car with turbocharged 6 cylinder engines (6) You didn't mention the boot space 😉or the (7) horrible death by black and shiny plastic interiors.
