I always appreciate a real life user review of a 997. A previous poster asked what the point was of this vid. The point is it is way to teach folks that are considering purchasing a 997 what to expect. It is not a fanboy review. It is the good and not so good points that are reviewed. Again, I appreciate the education. Jacob does a fine job at it.

Thanks so much for sticking up for me Jonathan! It's true, this is completely my intent with all of the videos, just to SHARE my cars and Porsche experiences with people who are on the fence about buying one or dream of owning one, or own one and want to see another owner's perspective. I'm never trying to emulate amazing and legitimate journalist/presenters like Chris Harris for example :) On the other hand, if you do come to my channel expecting polished content like that, I can see how you'd be leaving disappointed. LOL, Thanks again!! :)

Happy to hear things have been going well with the 997. I had a feeling you would really enjoy it. Some may complain that it is too new or too electronic, but that fades away once you drive it and see what it's all about. I don't know how much sporty driving you've done with the car, but I'll say that the AWD system is very grippy and provides so much confidence while driving fast. Great video and I'm looking forward to what's going to be on the channel in 2019. (P.S. The only gripe I have with the 997.2 is that the spark plugs are hard to change)

+993 ... Hot Damn! .. Time flies. .. When looking at 997.1's, were you casting about for the model S or would the base C4 coupe do? .. Congratulations! .. This 993 C2S owner is following suit, on the prowl for a suitable 997.1 S coupe to be a daily driver.
@911Percent5 жыл бұрын
Michael, thanks for watching!! Time does fly! When I was looking for my car, I wasn't specific about the 3.6 vs 3.8. I was after the best car, in the best condition I could find within budget. And that took forever! There are a few items that are nice to have with the S cars, bigger brakes, a bit more power, etc, but even the base cars will put a HUGE simile on your face. Good luck with your search!
@pulpoff5 жыл бұрын
I drive a simple c4, and it's very handful. Precise and fun to drive, can do 280kmh on autobahn (GPS verified), and 3.6 is a nice sounding engine. I'm coming from 964 background and frankly 997 has about 90% of the classic 911 feeling, with a few great modern touches. It lacks a bit the looks and rawness, but probably easier to live with daily.
@nathanbryant20615 жыл бұрын
Great review. I've got an 08 997.2 with similar mileage. I use mine daily and it is perfectly capable of the daily grind. My only MAJOR gripe is the interior squeaks and rattles. The back seats, passenger seats if no-one is sitting there and other random areas, it just drives me nuts!! Probably woouldn't be an issue so much if it was a weekender.
@911Percent5 жыл бұрын
Thanks for tuning in Nathan, You know, I should've talked about that, it seems to be a common complaint amongst 997 owners. I too have slight squeaks in my '11 on cold days, particularly in the front seat that drives me bananas. Luckily it comes and goes. :)
@rationalthinker91815 жыл бұрын
I have owned one for 5 years and have loved every second. Only issue was my washer fluid bottle cracked and needed replacement at a whopping $90. Rest just servicing. And I have lost zero money on the car can sell it for a smidge less than I paid its not an investment but it aint an M3 or other pretender to the throne that will smoke you 50% or more in 5 years.
@davidrose61905 жыл бұрын
Jakob, There is one major structural flaw in the 997.2 you will have to admit. The cup holders really don’t like to swing out from their home in the dash. (Try attaching a piece of ribbon to them which hangs out over the cover). Great video Jakob.
@911Percent5 жыл бұрын
David, thanks for checking out the video. I agree, they can be a little finicky, but mine have been operating properly. I find the trick is to be super gentle both taking out and putting them back in. Also, I don't put in big heavy drinks in there, so it's been fine. Good advice on the ribbon/string; Ill do that when I sense them loosing the click/lock into the dash.

Jacob I noticed you took your car to a drive through car wash. Which location do you use? I’m a Humbervalley 911 owner and I use the spray booth at Dundas and Scarlett. I’m nervous taking my car through a drive through. Any thoughts? Peter
@911Percent5 жыл бұрын
Hi Peter, it's the touchless wash at the Esso on Islington/Queensway, north/west corner. You basically drive into a glass box without a track and a big robotic arm sprays and washes the car without touching it. The "luxury" wash has the high pressure spray for under the car in the beginning - this is what I get. I don't get fuel there, but they have a discount if you buy gas. I have never used the bays on Dundas/Scarlet, I will check it out -- it's pretty close to me. Cheers! :)

Thank you! I am a big fan of PDK. If I was to buy a 997.2 again, I would no question get a PDK box... I do not miss driving stick in it. But I think my answer would be different if I didn't have a manual 993 in the garage.

Great Vid! Noticed you're putting Petro Can 94 octane at 7:17. As my porsche mechanic says "why pay to put water (he means ethanol) in your car?" Use shell 91. No ethanol in 91 octane. His recommendation is to use it whenever you can.
@911Percent5 жыл бұрын
Thanks! The 997 needs 93+ octane, so I'm filling it with the recommended Ultra94. My 993 however, I only ever put in Shell 91. Ethanol does a number on older plastic fuel components, so I agree with the mechanics - keep that crap out of your classics! Cheers!!

@911Percent5 жыл бұрын
It's been great. Hard to tell really vs the old oil that was in there. When I bought the car, the shop I did the PPI at did an oil change with Mobil 1 (as per service record), I drove the car x-country and then I switched to the Motul when I got home. Car is always running at the right temp and it has always had zero oil consumption, even with the Mobil 1. I've always heard great things about it Motul, also the GT3 Cup teams I work with pour it into their race cars so...lol.
