The Porsche Boxster Spyder is a limited edition model sold for only one year. Roughly every five years Porsche introduces a Boxster GT4 and Boxster Spyder for pure enthusiasts. This is a 2016 Porsche Boxster Spyder with a 3.8L 6-cylinder engine from the 911 line in a much smaller convertible. The output is 375hp and this example is equipped with a beautiful manual transmission. The interior is covered in both leather and alcantera faux suede, making for a classy, yet sporty car. The sound of this car is much more exciting compared to the new 4.0L 6-cylinder used in the latest cars.

Great review. I bought the 981 Spyder this year and was thinking about the 718 GTS 4.0 / Spyder. Once I heard both of them I was sold to the 981, it brings so much more emotions than the 718 which probably again is a bit faster but not as much fun. The sound of the 981 Spyder is a cheer joy which will never come back again for new cars.

This was a fantastic video and sold me on the Spyder. I found a Guards Red and finally took the plunge, literally a couple days after your video .The 981 does sound much better than the 718 Spyder and the overall car is so much more interesting than a 911, which I have as my daily, with PDK. The 981 Spyder is so special. Keep up the great quality videos

Congrats, Brad! Love the red. A 981 and 718 Spyder were both at my local Porsche dealer a few weeks ago and I had the good fortune test them back to back. No contest, the 981 stole my heart. And now I find myself watching old videos just because I love hearing praise for my beloved 981.

@@jscifres100 I’m watching more videos than driving my 981 Spyder, GT Silver over Garnet Red. What a head turner, folks literally stop in their tracks. Had a 987S for 15 years and 125,000 miles, but it didn’t garner the attention like the Spyder does. Sometimes it’s a bit overwhelming so I drive at night!

Don’t hesitate Tom you won’t regret it. I’ve owned one for 3 years now and it is just brilliant. I’ve had 3 other Porsche’s before this (including a GT3) and this is my favourite of the lot 👍

I drove one today every word he said is true. Also if u put it into sports plus it auto rev matches down the box. It’s such a good car that loud I could be heard on the other side of a airport the manual in them is amazing too would recommend if u have the money to splash on one

The 718 Spyder is not a limited edition. You can now configure for the 2021 model year as well.

It may not be a limited edition but the production is limited to the number they can build. Certainly over here in the UK the order books are full at the OPCs and it is no longer possible to get on the list. Unless your name is already on then forget it. You can use Porsche configurator to your hearts content and submit to your dealer, but you will receive a courteous reply saying you can’t have one, but have you considered used. That’s my UK experience anyway. So I will just keep my 981 Spyder and enjoy the noise that makes :-) Update: it appears there are build slots now coming available in the Uk. But I’m keeping the 981......

I live in Vancouver, drive a white 981 Spyder.... bucket seats, alcantara steering (not the biggest fan of that) but Man the fucking exhaust note! Looks like the one that sold from Weissach a few months ago during the summer? same color scheme!

Counting smiles per mile (kms)... you clearly love this car. It was a perfectly entertaining review. I love this Spyder. The newer 911’s have become to big on the inside and far too ‘electronic’ (screens/settings/digital buttons). This Porsche, I think, hits the sweet spot. Thanks for another exciting video.

I have a 2012 Infiniti G37xS Coupe with only 53K Miles in Red with a black interior. I live in Montreal and the car spent last winter in Florida. The car has never been winter driven. It's been lightly modified with intakes and catback exhaust (Invidia Gemini) Has the Hicas system and the tech package. Looks like showroom inside and out. Even under the hood it's clean. Underneath the car looks new too. The car has been dyno-tuned with UpRev Osiris V2 with a fully owned and registered license. The car has lowering coils and 19 x 8.5" front and 19 x 9" Enkei original wheels (only 3 year on the S from '11 - '14 repainted with powder coated two tone silver and titanium; front wheels with 15mm spacers front and 20mm spacers in the back. Toyo high performance tires. 245/40 front and 265/35 rear. New bushings. Up to date maintenance with all history including original bill of sale. I'm thinking if I'm going to bring it back down to the US next winter (assuming things are back to normal) and sell her, (very rare too never accidented), I could get top dollar for her and use the money to buy a used Boxster that's newer than 2015 like an S in white, silver or red. Do you think that's a wise choice? Really like your new style and reviews and subscribed too. Miss Van, My parents were retired in BC (Vic) from 1999 to 2011. Then Abbotsford until 2016. Thanks!

"It's basically built in tandem with the GT4". That isn't quite right. This is true for the 718 Spyder, but not for the 981 generation Spyder. The 981 generation Spyder was not produced by the GT division at Porsche like the GT3, GT4 and 718 Spyder is.

Really? Please tell me which OPC you used as I have hit a complete blank Update............ I take it all back. I think the motto here is, keep plugging away and you may hit gold. I had an offer of a 718 Spyder slot. So unless you are after a GT2 RS or similar Porsche ‘royalty’ then you may just get lucky and bag yourself a build slot

I have the 2020 Spyder which is great except for the manual roof. If I could dod it' over again I would have ordered the 2020 GTS with its powered roof rather than the manual roof.

Each to their own I suppose. Personally I love the Spyder roof and the manual effort needed. Makes the car that more special imo. Roof up flying buttresses, roof down that gorgeous rear deck.

It's not true, that "you can't buy a 2020 718 Spyder any longer"! Porsche had made it clear, that with this new model they will build more Spyders than they did with the predecessor car. Porsche is still offering the 718 Spyder..., at least here in Germany.
