A lot of it is that you see every major manufacturer improving interior design, quality and features including material design. This car carries a hefty price tag and and feels and looks every bit of 40k. Then you have to pay even more to get real adjustable seats, better materials a basically average audio system. I mean I get the entire Porsche thing, not a value brand etc. But come on.

How can someone be disappointed of the interior in a 718 Spyder, when this car is on the market since more than five years? For that reason, of course it's not a totally modern infotainment interior and still has some of older Porsche infotainment stuff, but which is still decent and still works very well. The only thing which counts here is, the 718 Spyder drives like no other sports car in its segment and it's a hardcore open fun car, which you can even use on the race track like a proper Porsche GT vehicle.

Full disclosure, I own this car (not this exact one but one in a very similar spec). It’s my 3rd Boxster (986 S, 981 GTS, 982 Spyder) and 14th Porsche. I own for two reasons, I believe it is the amalgamation, for me, of every positive trait I’ve experienced in the previous 13 Porsches and every other sports car I’ve ever owned and it’s styling is both timeless and beautiful. I will have other sports cars but I will NEVER sell my 718 Spyder it is that special.

I enjoy your reviews very much. I happen to like this interior quite a bit and I believe it will age better than most sports car interiors out there. Regarding the “long” gear ratio, my conclusion is that that is a byproduct of having a very high RPM range. When we used to drive sports cars in manual gear, remember, those cars used to have 6800 RPMs and we drove them between 4500 & 6500. So naturally, it required more shifting back and forth btwn 2nd & 3rd gear. Of course, one can argue that the overall gearing can be lowered. But if they did that, under normal driving, we would be forced to shift up from 1st to 2nd way too quickly and it would be unbearable to drive the car under normal conditions. Even in generally spirited driving, the shifting happens btwn 5000 & 6000 and rarely need to get past 7000. No one who owns these cars and wants to keep them will wring it out every time they get in. The car is very lively and powerful enough to get in and out of the bends as fast as one would want on the road. I have no issue with the gearing and I am convinced Porsche knew what they are doing when they set up these cars for the consumers. In conclusion, nostalgia over manual shifting is great but I have come to accept that such was great for the cars of the bygone era. New cars like these are too advanced for manual shifting to make sense. That said, I do enjoy the manual shifting on this car immensely and I don’t have to run it at full throat to enjoy it. We just can’t expect cars that get 8000, 9000 RPM to shift like those old cars with 6800 RPMs.

And guess what....their reasle value suffers because the latest cars oboless the previous ones. It is why the 911 has held value over time.
@Meatwad6503 жыл бұрын
@@flyjbaker You miss the point. The 718 shares an interior with the 991.2. Most of the parts are identical. But now the 992 has had a big interior upgrade. Compare the 992 to the 991.2 and you’ll see what I mean. So obviously the next big refresh for the 718 will hopefully bring PCM 5 to the Cayman/Boxster and I’m curious what that will look like.

@Nomen Clature no they shouldn’t, they have a long wait list for a reason. The buyers don’t care and resale value is over sticker on these. I think Porsche knows what they are doing.

I know this car is very good, but somehow you guys managed to kill my enthusiasm for it. Dollars aside, there aren't many cars like it left... and its still an incredible deal compared to a gt3. Its about the only thing I would consider replacing my s2000 with.

The thing is,the sort of folks who are gonna buy this don't care about the fact that a Mustang GT could possibly take them on a set of traffic lights. They just want a car that is the benchmark for every other performance product out there.

Great video. The 718 sounds good but the 981 Spyder sounds GREAT. If I were to guess, I suspect the 981 will be the more sought after car in the future. That’s why I am on the hunt for one currently! And a PDK doesn’t belong in a Spyder IMO.
@jameswillard12 жыл бұрын
I’ve had both, the 718 Spyder even with over axle pipes (a very common and relatively easy mod) still doesn’t sound as good as my 981 Spyder but it’s close enough. Because Porsche collectors are into exclusivity I suppose the fact that the 981 Spyder was only sold for one model year May help it in the future but as far as a drivers car the 718 Spyder buries the 981. The suspension is such much more focused, the steering has much more feel, the structure is the most granite like I’ve experienced in any open topped car that isn’t a Mclaren, and best of all it actually somehow rides even better than the 981 did. I also happen to think it looks far better with its GT4 bulldog stance but that’s just my opinion, the difference in driving between the two cars is vast

I am not so sure about the Diff. being electronic on the PDK cars. It is on the 911's, but according to Porsche's website, there is no E-Diff. option on any 718. I have a 2022 PDK GT4 on order (will be here in Nov.) and I spent hours researching this very thing as I have the E-diff. in my current SS 1LE and it is amazing at what it does. However, all literature I have come across says the the E-diff. is only an option on the 911's. The difference between the PDK cars and the manual cars on the 718's (or at least on the GT4 and Spyder) is they have different locking % values, however both are mechanical in operation from everything I have seen. PTV = mechanical locking with a pre-set locking % value PTV+ = E-Diff. with variable electronic locking

Don't know about the seats in the newest Spiders but the seats in my 2019 Boxster GTS (similar car) are great. You mentioned that the Recaro seats in the newer Miata's were better, but I traded in a 2019 Miata, with Recaro seats, for the Boxster GTS, and even though the Recaro's were very nice, I think the GTS seats are even slightly better. Hmmm?

This channel has been complaining about piano black, too many screens and capacitive buttons for years. Here's a car that gives a pure, open-top driving experience with a manual transmission in a way probably no other new car can or will again, with none of those other issues. It's even somewhat lightweight and track-capable out of the box. The red interior is not to my taste, but black with brushed aluminum, dark aluminum or carbon fiber looks much better (Al is free a option btw). On top of it, CXX means the choices are basically unlimited. Yes, it's expensive, but it's the halo trim of an already expensive car.

I have owned 17 Porsches & 9 Corvettes. You have to compare generation against the same generation. I have the 18-way seats in my 911 Turbo and they are the best seat I have ever driven in. Absolutely great for daily driving and provide all the required support while on the track. This is why I am getting the 18-way seats in my coming SPYDER. I have tracked most every car out there. The 18-way seats are at the are awesome. Great for long drives or auto-club/track. I like them better than the C8, M4, & C63 AMG, etc.

I’d opt for the gts 4.0 w a proper manual over this. Save a few bucks, but more importantly, a ride quality that’s more streetsble and you don’t have the roof design that will be a major pain in the ass soon into the ownership experience. The extra performance Porsche has extracted out of it isn’t worth the money or the compromises…..as is often the case with the ultra performance variant of most sorts cars. I’ve got a 981 boxster s and like the interior…..not really sure was SG is on about. I get that this is an expensive car, but I don’t see any functional flaws in the interior of mine and the quality of the materials is good if not spectacular……but what is spectacular anymore?!? He mentions the corvette but I think he’s making the mistake of lauding the corvette for finally not absolutely sucking inside. The absence of horrible does not automatically warrant greatness

The problem here is: the Porsche 718 Spyder is just not a matching comparison to Corvette, LC500 or F-Type! Who the fu... really thinks, that such a quite puristic drivers car like the 718 Spyder has these three more luxury vehicles as "matching competitors"? Such a comparison makes no sense at all! Just look at the manually operated Spyder roof, which is totally unique. From a driving perspective, the Spyder just wipes its ass with all of these three cars. And driving it is the only thing which counts with a 718 Spyder.
