Doug you missed some really fun quirks: - Air compressor for blowing tyres located under the seat (the actual compressor pump is in the trunk but you can put that hose thing into the passenger's front seat) -Cigarette lighters/charging places underneath the glovebox where passenger's feet would be -My GTS has a hidden compartment between the rear seats which expanded a quite long fabric that would go through the trunk. Figured that was a Ski pocket where you can put your ski gear in the trunk and they extend between the seats but the fabric would wrap it so no snow gets inside the seats

I have a 2009 Cayenne GTS, although it's the automatic 6-speed, and have taken it to the track and up in the mountains on logging roads - remarkably capable in both cases. The 2009 tech is a bit dated, but I still love the car. You missed the quirks about the 12v power plugs in the passenger foot well, double visors for driver and passenger, the mirror assist for parallel parking (passenger mirror drops to show the curb), heated steering wheel (perhaps that's an option?), and buttons on back of steering wheel to control lights on steering wheel buttons. Don't forget it can tow 7700 pounds, and sport mode also opens valves in the exhaust for a sportier sound.

I bought a '14 CGTS late last year and I can confirm it's an amazing suv....it handles like nothing else. Mine is PDCC equipped and I was keeping up with C8 vettes and bmw m4 through Tail of the Dragon, which is unreal for a 5k lb SUV! A proper ballerina. My previous car was a Maserati GranTurismo, and the GTS out accelerates, out-handles, and out performs that car in every measurable way while also being able to tow 7800 lbs, go off road, and carry 5 people in luxury and comfort. It's an amazing vehicle and so far has been rock solid at almost 80k miles. This gen of Cayenne didn't come with the manual but the 8 speed tiptronic is super, super quick. If you've ever driven a Macan, the shifts are as quick as the DCT in that. They are rev matched in sport mode, but obviously it's not quite as smooth as DCT. But it's very rapid, and the added benefit is an extra gear and the ability to tow huge amounts. I would love to drive one of these manuals one day super super cool truck!!!

@@Vivona23 very. Coming up on 90k miles power train is amazingly smooth. I have no lights or catastrophic issues but the front end for example needs some work. Bushings/control arms etc. Parts are very expensive. So are basic things like oil changes, tires, etc. Make sure you can afford out of warranty maintenance for a 6 figure car and know most of it will be deferred when you buy it😂 but if you can it’s really a solid vehicle

Doug, the button on the wiper stalk that controls the little screen has been standard on all VW products for quite some time. At least from the mid 90s to the early 2010s. Quite intuitive when you use it for a little bit. The parking lights are actually a legal requirement in Europe, there are certain situations where you are supposed to turn them on, and in order to not drain the battery as much it is like that on many European cars, leave the blinker on turns on the parking light on that side.
@SlaughterDog2 жыл бұрын

This isnt late 80's early 90's turbo lag here (I have had many turbos over the years and still do). Maybe not like a 2022 turbo application, but you dont need to ring it out to 4000 rpm and then it smacks you in the back. I get the ~0.6-0.8 bar at ~ 2600 rpm. The relatively big engine displacement and not overly big turbos are the reasons. Peak torque is at 2250 rpm, so maybe even quicker spool up than I am noticing via the tac.

Doug, you missed some nuggets. This is a Second Gen. The first gen was 995 and ended in the US in 2006 (the v8s were 4.5L). Gen 2 was the 997 which you are showing here with the 4.8L engine. From the right steering-wheel stalk. You can cycle through a few choices as you showed. If you go to the 'MAIN MENU', and hit the ENTER button on the bottom of the stalk, you can get to sub menus to set, tire size, clock set, clock 12/24h, MPG(reset), tire pressure, km/miles and maybe some others I might be forgetting. As @Jimmy Mentioned, there is a center sun visor above the mirror. I have 2 sun visors above the driver and passenger. The first can come down & has the mirror and can be swung off to the side. While that first visor is off to the side you can flip down the other visor down in front of the driver. One thing to note is I realize that not all cars may have the center visor, double visor, the fully integrated steel roll cage or rear heated seats that I have in my Turbo S example. Also as @Jimmy mentioned the tire inflation hoses under the back passenger seat connect to the suspension system under the front passenger seat allowing changes of air pressure in remote areas or just airing up a low tire. Porsche has so many variables for personalizing their Cayennes that I have read that there are over 2 Million choices for a new buyer to choose from! I'm sure the Porsche dealers try to group them into packages, but Porsche will build what the customer wants. That is a staggering number of choices and I would think a nightmare for production. All of the choices for each build are printed in the spare tire area along with the specific engine's horsepower as tested by Porsche. It's a fun list for any second owner (or potential buyer) to go through. All of the build codes can be looked up and easily deciphered. The only vehicle I would consider replacing my Turbo S with, would be a GTS manual.

I own a 2008 black on black version of this vehicle and love it more than I can accurately describe. I need to get Doug to review my Turbo S, lol. PDCC makes these just infinitely better handling- I had a GTS and it doesn’t even compare. The rest function is nice for keeping warm air on with engine off, the interior intrusion alarm defeat button on the B pillar, the ski bag option, the onboard air compressor, power seatbelts, the button that turns off the steering wheel lights.
@LongStep2 жыл бұрын
Great points about the 2 buttons on the back side of the steering wheel turning off the steering wheel lights at night and the buttons on the driver's side B pillar. IIRC one was to turn off interior movement sensitivity while the alarm was on and the other was used when you were parking on a hill to disable tilting sensitivity for the alarm.

The Cayenne had a shared platform with the Touareg. Even though it wasn't offered with a manual, the V10 TDI is the ultimate expression, IMO. Besides being a torque monster famous for towing a Boeing 747, it was an extremely unique power plant. It was an (over) engineering flex from VW. It has no belts or chains, the timing and accessories are entirely gear driven. It's a car that truly shouldn't exist, but I love that it does.

Doug didn’t pick up on why these cars are so valuable. It’s because it’s literally the last manual suv that is sporty and fun to drive. There is literally nothing comparable offered since this was released in 2009. So if you must have a manual, you must have an suv, this is the most fun to drive and most modern tech option that exists. Maybe I use the storage compartment in the armrest or drop it into the footwell but then it will roll around making noise and be annoying. What should I do? If only the Porsche engineers thought about this and made a little spot to store the lighter where it will be secure while I am using the outlet... Yeah, I can be a smart-ass at times. Doug has been in the last past couple of months on a decline, especially when details are considered. An automotive journalist like him should research these, like the blank buttons under that climate control lid, plus he used to work for Porsche. He just shoots from the hip now (like "ambient lighting in the Kia EV6 can't be changed" - yes, it can). For someone that loves quirks and used to read car manuals he is getting sloppy. He's more interested in funneling traffic to his bids site and his videos suffer for it.

Sadly, as much as I'd like to mention everything, it's not possible. People won't watch if the videos are too long, and frankly a HUGE portion of the cars I review have things like double sun visors -- it's just not that interesting. Same goes for buttons you can press front or back on the steering wheel -- it's just not interesting to the majority of people. If I really let loose, I could do over an hour on each car, but then nobody would watch. Ultimately, my videos are a lesson in priorities: some people will be mad I didn't cover enough, some people will be mad the video was too long and I covered too much, and the goal is finding the right spot in the middle.
