The Evora's handling, steeering, and braking is miles ahead of the Cayman. I test drove both and ordered an Evora back in 2010. Never regretted it. And price-wise it's the same as a Cayman with the same spec. Spec full leather, sports seats, 19" wheels, and you add 15k to the Cayman's price. The Evora has it all as standard.

Well it's television. The Cayman does understeer more than the Evora and Tiff wants to make that clear on television. When he gets the understeer he turns the wheel even more so that we can see the car run wide and go offtrack. Everything is exaggerated on television. He might be biased though :P

+usernamefromhell It is not Tiff (F1 driver) to be sure and it is not the lack of the chrono package. Ive driven both the S and the base in three seasons in all condtions under many cambers and have never seen or felt a Cayman act that way. I have never seen/felt any Porsche act that way. The only thing I can come up with off the top of my head with is severly manipulated tire pressures with all traction controls turned off.

Love all the "what's wrong with the Porsche" comments (although problems can always occur on the day) - perhaps the Evora should have been up against the (more expensive) 911 since they both have seats in the back, and the space to accommodate them, to add to the weight - it's the logical comparison and the "should have been against a Cayman S" comments would be moot. A fair conclusion is that Lotus make great handling cars (that is the single topic this vid was addressing), and that's not really news to anyone ... perhaps the Cayman should have been up against the V6 Exige, because that's even quicker because it doesn't have the seats and excess weight ...

I am not sure, if it is the typical British bias towards British cars, or something seriously was wrong with the Cayman. The Cayman is usually brilliant - especially in handling. I am also not sure, why they chose the normal Cayman instead of the Cayman S to compete against the Lotus. Even they could give it Sport Crono package and other upgrades, which would have made it more than adequate. So this test is very, very odd, if you ask me!

This looks very odd to me. I know a journalist can only test what they get on the day and I'm no Tiff Needel, yet my 2006 Cayman S was nothing like this? I define the difference between a good and bad car by whether you have to add lock or release lock after you initially turn in. My Cayman S was one of the easiest cars to slide around I've ever owned. Not particularly predisposed to over or understeer, it just seemed to allow you to corner with any attitude you chose. I fondly remember flicking the back out on demand due to the 'relatively' low grip. It was a lot more 'playful' than any 911 I've owned as the 911 slides with a lot more feeling of momentum and responsibility, you can certainly enjoy but never relax sliding a 911. The Cayman on the other hand was a relative hoot.

I feel the same way. Looked like he was sandbagging the Cayman and really going for it in the Lotus. Found it particularly weird that he took the hairpin in first gear…I wouldn’t do that unless I was trying to get around it going about 6 mph 😅 probably cost himself a half second in lap time there alone

Different strokes for different folks, not everyone wants to drive balls to the wall. Some people enjoy a nice spirited drive onto the on ramp and enjoy the feel of the tight steering. Life is about understanding nuances Porsche does this very well.

Not a failed racing car driver for nothing, is Tiff N. You can make any car understeer, and Needles just exaggerated it to the max to make the Lotus look good. Cheap shot, and anyone can see straight through his nonsense. Not very classy.

To my knowledge, the Porsche Cayman has strut front and BACK suspension; thus BOTH axles need to be properly aligned. I suspect they are out of alignment in this video, therefore explaining the issues with understeer.

Maybe people actually care about the engine sound, the look and feel of the car, rather then just obses over 0-60 times.. I've driven to Stuttgart in my 13 year old Cayman, 240kph + for over an hour.. Another guy in our group with his 2 year old 450 bhp chipped AMG had to let go because it overheated and thew a CEL. Another time I drive 400 km to Le Mans, tracked it all day.. took off my helmet and drove back home without missing a beat. Another time it was lightly snowing in Spa.. Eau Rouge at 150 kph.. 4 wheel drift going up Raidillion These cars are just great all rounders.. Rain or Shine.. doesn't matter.. You are welcome to try all those things in your WRX, but in my experience, them AWD Subies generally don't follow me when it's getting a bit damp out there.. And I know my interior is much nicer to look at and sit in.

This is is the 2.9 liter version of the cayman, in other words, barely a sports car.. I mean 5.8 seconds? Any mid size wagon with around 250 horsepower can do that

What I meant was that 0-100 kph in around 6 seconds isn't that really fast for a sports car. Sure the cayman handles really good but not many goes to a track with their cars, thus leading to not needing such a good handling car. You can get any car with a V6 with 250-300 horsepower and you can pretty much get to 100 kph in 6 seconds. And don't be an ignorant fool now yourself calling me an american without even knowing it...

xBuzz996 As a Cayman 2.9 owner, I can attest Porsche laughably understate their specs. Granted I have a PDK, but I hit 60 in 4.8. And if you think a Cayman, any Cayman, is barely a sports car, you don't know the meaning of a sports car...it's not all speed bud
