Will it take 800V?!
That's the big question, the second test of today after the v2.

If I'm not mistaken, the reason you won't see higher charge speeds at these 400V chargers is the car actually has a built in transformer to transform the 400V into 800V, and you loose a bit of power during that transformation. It will only accept 150kW from the charger, and loose a bit of it while transforming it into 800V. And that's why you will not get 150kW.
@JoeyDee86
@JoeyDee86 2 жыл бұрын
It’s not as much as you lose much with the transformer, it’s that the cars wiring is sized for 800v, so they need to limit it to prevent more current than the wiring is designed for.
@tronderikbrekke8792
@tronderikbrekke8792 2 жыл бұрын
@@JoeyDee86 Have you read the available information about the onboard converter? They double the voltage and half the current. And given that the chargers put out 300A at 500V to get to 150kW the car will not ask for that much. That's 1000V. The amps are not the issue. The converter will have converted the current before it goes into the battery. It's just the math with the doubling and all that's not doable.

Wonder then if the side you were on had issues since no Tesla's remained on that side, perhaps you would have got the full rate on the other side??? Nice to see the Kona charge as well, curious to see an Ioniq 28 charge there, mind you it MAY end up blocking potentially but just something that will have to be dealt with if you park near an end at least doing least amount of blocking.

Good job explaining the guys in the BMW, but still they won't go on the Superchargers xD In France, most of the Superchargers are not ready for others brands, the stall are often away from the parking and some brands have the plug on the wrong side. No problem with the Porsche Taycan of course. Too bad it's charging "slowly" compared to a Model 3 Long Range, but is it the stall or the car? About the V3, the superchargers are not 800v compatible if you check the informations on the stall.

The spec from the supercharger is showing max voltage of 1’000Vdc and a max current of 425A. So booster should not be active here. So 50kW / 150kW should not matter. So like normal for tesla I think we will see much higher charging charging after they collected some data

Do you know whether that Tycan had the 50kW or 150kW 400V DC booster? (probably had the 150kW booster based on the results) Doesn't the car show the charge voltage or a message when it's using the booster? Seems a bit lame if it doesn't tell you the booster is limiting your charge
@electricfelix
@electricfelix 2 жыл бұрын
Checking with the owner, he definitely got all charging options available at the time (so I'd think the 150kW booster) - but I've never seen what you're speaking about (I've driven two Taycan's only).
@marcusbiller867
@marcusbiller867 2 жыл бұрын
I don't think it's the booster alone. The Taycan chargers slow on 50kW too. I think some part is lost in the converter, some goes for battery heating and some depends on the output of the V at that SOC%

@@Wantobe123 I think the owner did a record in summer of around 500km on a single charge - it doesn't really matter in my opinion because when you visit the right infrastructure (Fastned/IONITY) this one easily pumps around 50kWh or more in 15 minutes which is just nuts (see my BerlinChallenge video last year). If you push it on the German unlimited Autobahn you can still do 200km, 5min charge, another 100km full speed, and so on. That's what's important. you can stay moving FAST. Consumption is especially impressive the faster you go.
