If I'm not mistaken, the reason you won't see higher charge speeds at these 400V chargers is the car actually has a built in transformer to transform the 400V into 800V, and you loose a bit of power during that transformation. It will only accept 150kW from the charger, and loose a bit of it while transforming it into 800V. And that's why you will not get 150kW.
@JoeyDee862 жыл бұрын
It’s not as much as you lose much with the transformer, it’s that the cars wiring is sized for 800v, so they need to limit it to prevent more current than the wiring is designed for.
@tronderikbrekke87922 жыл бұрын
@@JoeyDee86 Have you read the available information about the onboard converter? They double the voltage and half the current. And given that the chargers put out 300A at 500V to get to 150kW the car will not ask for that much. That's 1000V. The amps are not the issue. The converter will have converted the current before it goes into the battery. It's just the math with the doubling and all that's not doable.

That was my thought 400V charging goes through the DC-DC converter, limited by whatever the car has onboard to convert it. Good thing he didn't have the 50kW base model or he'd be REALLY complaining.

@@stevenday2067 not sure what you mean by 50kW base model. As I remember both 50kW and 150kW DC converters were optional extras, at least in Germany. I am sure most or a lot of the Taycans out there don't have the 150kW option ordered.

Good job explaining the guys in the BMW, but still they won't go on the Superchargers xD In France, most of the Superchargers are not ready for others brands, the stall are often away from the parking and some brands have the plug on the wrong side. No problem with the Porsche Taycan of course. Too bad it's charging "slowly" compared to a Model 3 Long Range, but is it the stall or the car? About the V3, the superchargers are not 800v compatible if you check the informations on the stall.

Do you know whether that Tycan had the 50kW or 150kW 400V DC booster? (probably had the 150kW booster based on the results) Doesn't the car show the charge voltage or a message when it's using the booster? Seems a bit lame if it doesn't tell you the booster is limiting your charge
@electricfelix3 жыл бұрын
Checking with the owner, he definitely got all charging options available at the time (so I'd think the 150kW booster) - but I've never seen what you're speaking about (I've driven two Taycan's only).
@marcusbiller8673 жыл бұрын
I don't think it's the booster alone. The Taycan chargers slow on 50kW too. I think some part is lost in the converter, some goes for battery heating and some depends on the output of the V at that SOC%

If you push it on the German unlimited Autobahn you can still do 200km, 5min charge, another 100km full speed, and so on. That's what's important. you can stay moving FAST.
