Still a good tool for soldering. It's easy to get a new soldering tip if the old one is too worn out. Gets hot quick, no cord, easy to handle. Perfect for household use, but I prefer an adjustable soldering station for more advanced use. Household use, search no more.

Thanks for the concise & informative video. It's certainly easy to handle as a wood burning tool but there are not enough of the right tips included. I will need to see if others are available.

I'm considering buying one of these irons and looking at reviews. You jest about cooking a chicken but I could see a chef using the torch tip to braise desserts and appetizers with one of these. Thanks for making this honest and genuine review.

@@SHARPEYSWORKSHOP Thanks for the reply. I do look forward to an update by you after one year of use. That would be very helpful to me and others I'm sure. I've used a Weller Portasol for years but it quit on me due to a clogged jet, and the jet is not a supported spare part by the manufacturer. What I've learned after the fact is these butane soldering irons - regardless of manufacturer - are best fueled with "triple refined" butane. There are several grades of bottled butane and some are considered quite "dirty" by relative standards. The tripled refined grade should keep the jets clean and is overall a better choice for longer term storage, if you're not a frequent user of this tool. Thanks again!

I am thinking of getting one to sear salmon but also to solder odd jobs. Did you actually end up buying it for said purpose? if so how did you do?

Looking forward to the follow up video where you cook a chicken with it. I bought one specifically for that job. Edit: just saw the end where you said you didn't have any success with a chicken. I'll try a chicken leg and report back.

What do you reccomend for wood burning?
@Dave-sg6om
@Dave-sg6om 3 жыл бұрын
You'll find it will fill will gas alot easier if you hold the soldering iron vertical with it's valve facing upwards and then inject your gas cannister downwards vertical into the dremel.

Turn up the gas for wood burning as it needs to be much hotter. Also, get the specific wood burning tips.

@@SHARPEYSWORKSHOP www.outdoors.org/articles/amc-outdoors/why-do-canister-stoves-fail-in-cold "Why? The primary culprit is butane, which stops vaporizing at 31 degrees Fahrenheit (its boiling point)." There's your answer... turn on the heat in the shop first before soldering!

Good tool while it works... mine has gone in about 8 months and the replacement part doesn't exist on its own... the catalyst gauze. I wouldn't recommend this tool

It might not be the best because they copied the exact design from Lexivon which is identical in every way even the tips are interchangeable 😂
