Portal Beta Developer Test Maps

The VNN exclusive video of the Portal Beta content didn't show off any of the developer maps, so here's a preview of some of the interesting and not so interesting Portal Beta maps.
Portalvideo_00 and 01 aren't really test maps but they are maps shown in the official Portal trailer in 2008 with different Portal textures.

^^^^That link^^^^ is just a dump of some shit I found after some beta content collector released their shit out of spite of another amidst an argument on the Facepunch forum.
I've been told that there's going to be a Source Mod with fixed files and swappable assets, such as the Beta Portal Gun model which I didn't show in the video, it will also have a full zip with more stuff than the one above. When that comes out I'll replace the link above with a link to the Source Mod when it comes out, which I don't have an ETA on btw, so be patient!

all of the zoo maps, lab_lvl 1 and exit_test might of been used for the unused ending where you have to escape aperture

Yeah, I don't think I've seen some of these things from other portal beta development build videos. I've seen the "Narbacular Drop" videos that pretty much show us what Portal was before it was really Portal, and then I've seen the Portal Beta videos that pretty much used a lot of Half-Life graphical assets. Not to mention the strange sperical thing that GladOS was before the game became fleshed out and finished.

In test chamber 17 if you go out of bounds you can find a small room with double flinging through a glass hole

exit_test looks like a map that was featured in the ExitE Mod (a multiplayer mod with portals based on the Portal trailer created before the release of Portal), was it just taken from the mod for internal testing of Portal, or was it actually ExitE that adopted it from something else? I think that may be the former since it seems to be designed specifically for using portals. From what it looks like in this demo, it might've been a way to transition to new levels and areas that couldn't be reached by traversing and using the portal gun. Instead of relying on the elevators and mechanical lifts like we got in the final game, players might use the liquid portal to connect to separate areas instead of a single test lab environment. I can see why they might've ditched the idea due to technical issues and inconveniences on the player's end, but it's still a cool concept.

It was for when you killed glados, the room would fill up with that liquid and you would get teleported to Zen for the ending shot. Originally they wanted to tie it more into half life but pulled back on it in the final product.

If you care, don't download a wrongfully stolen incomplete blasphemy. (first link) (not everyone know this, it came from pe|pix) a proper beta includes binaries, this doesn't. also those maps are WIP/dev/alpha, mostly the hl2 themed ones there's already two source mods about this: project alpha and project beta. those maps may come from portal beta but they probably belong to something different. please do link the HL2 beta thread :)
