Interesting theory, especially considering how GLADoS came to be, but there’s a line in the beginning of Portal 2 where Wheatley says “I shouldn’t laugh, they do feel pain. Of a sort. All simulated. But it’s real enough to them I suppose.” Or something to that effect. I wonder how this would fit with your theory
@StuffExplained3 жыл бұрын
Well, quick thinking here but maybe some turrets or cores dont know there a core or turret yet and thus they feel pain. Maybe not a good theory at all BUT i am gonna do some more thinking about this

It would be a little strange for these cores to be only one specific personality if they were once human. And we know that they were all created to regulate GLaDOS's emotions. GLaDOS herself even talks about the scientists building Wheatley, implying that these cores and all the other kinds of robots at aperture may have sentience but are still just robots. Also I feel like all the talk of companion cubes being alive was made as a threat to chell, so she would trust it less. Ratman's cube doesn't really speak either, it's just a mental representation of his madness

Hmm... this is true, I agree with this. This brings a whole new perspective onto it
@legofan65592 жыл бұрын
Ok going to play devils advocate a bit since I don't completely agree with the theory but I don't think the whole personality of one human is copied as it may be too much too handle due to glados clearly being corrupt after this mistake they have copied only one aspect of a person's personality to avoid this problem and before you ask I would assume that since wheatly was built to be dumb they never thought of him as a threat so they just programmed him as a human like robot because they knew that he was dumb and never thought he would take out glados

Theory: All Human that got affected by neurotoxin was picked up by Glados and: 1) put their brain/personality inside the cores same with Glados. 2) Transfer their personalities inside the cores same with Glados. The Personality core is the Human "Personality" or Maybe "Goal". Remember Space, Adventure, curiosity and other cores? That's their human trait,THEIR Trait is implemented inside the cores.
@v.v3652 жыл бұрын
A good portion of Portal fanfiction utilizes this idea, that the Personality Cores were once human like Glados was, and Aperture used the same technology to make the cores out of their employees like they used Caroline to make Glados’s AI brain
@v.v3652 жыл бұрын
So my belief is that only a few of the cores were actually people, and it’s the most human-like ones obviously. - The red “Anger” core from the first game that was always growling was human, it was just perpetually channeling rage at being stripped of it’s humanity - The blue “Cake” core was supposed to be an intelligence core but the data got corrupted so it perpetually spouted a never ending list of ingredients and steps for baking a cake; this one wasn’t human - Morality Core (purple) was a human, as it seems like it would be tricky trying to program a code of ethics as complex as one a human brain can conceive of - Curiosity Core (yellow) was a human, but it’s intelligence was limited so it would make Glados insatiably curious so she’d just want to continue running tests and running the facility - Space Core was a human, probably one or potentially more of those astronauts Aperture had boasted working with in the past. Or maybe it was an employee who loved space and was working on the moon rocks project, importing the rocks to make the white conversion gel and the white panels that make Portal surfaces, and they were turned into a core before they could ever realize their dreams of going to space - Fact Core (pink) is non-human, purely a corrupted ai that constantly spouts random incorrect facts with no rhyme or reason - Adventure Core (Rick, as he calls himself) was a human, probably even an attempt at keeping Cave Johnson’s spirit alive since the Glados project was initially supposed to upload Cave’s consciousness before he died, which is why Caroline was chosen in his place. Other than that we can assume this was a professional thrill seeker or adventurer, or maybe just an Aperture employee who had a fantastic imagination and thought he could be a dashing hero if he were ever given the chance to be one - Wheatley was almost definitely a human before becoming a Core. He just seems like the type of dopey guy working a desk job, he’s not the brightest bulb but he has all these ideas he keeps sharing with the boss, no one really takes him seriously and sometimes it grates on him but he knows he could work his way up if they only gave him a chance, and suddenly men in lab coats are escorting him away and he’s nervous but he doesn’t know why, and that’s the last day he spends as a human man.

I'd imagine that aperture AI takes a human's base personality and from there can alter it in anyway possible, make copies, alter those copies, make copies of the copies, and so on and so forth.
@BootifulBlaze2 жыл бұрын
I think the cores were Aperture's tests so they could find out how to import Cave into a robot, like how they put Caroline in GLaDOS. Also, I think the space core was those missing astronauts Cave was talking abt earlier
@StuffExplained2 жыл бұрын
This makes sense, you do need to test before anything can be done. And looking at like earlier concepts in Portal 2, like the Cave Johnsson Cube, it would make sense for them to test first

I have two different fries, and I feel like both of them could be really plausible. Theory 1: Maybe instead of the cores being different individual people maybe they’re all the byproduct of one specific person. They have been copied over and had their personality tampered with so much over the years that they do not remember the person they used to be. Theory 2: this kind of piggyback off the theory before it, but what if all the cars we see in the portal series is what’s left of Cave Johnson yes, he did die before the brain mapping technology for Glados was finished, but they did do work on the technology before he died, before he died, they did a couple different scans of his brain (none coming out entirely perfect) and this is why we have several different corrupted because caves mine couldn’t be entirely copied over. The personality traits of the course also fit theory. Curiosity is his passion for science, rage is the fact he knows he’s dying, and there’s nothing he could do about it, space, because right before he died the secret to portal technology, he found was Moonrocks, facts because, you know science, Adventure could be the thrill of the “hunt” for new science expeditions, morality core is his morality obviously, the intelligence core is the only one that kind of throws off the theory but who knows maybe Cave Johnson had a sweet tooth lol. But regardless, this theory does explain why all the core we see are “corrupt“ they’re not really corrupt they’re just not full brain downloads, they’re not. And we know Glados rejects her humanity at the end of portal, two by deleting Caroline so who’s to say she’s not the one who locked up the three corrupted course from portal two?

Im not sure if using the corrupted cores from portal 2 is good proof, mainly due to the fact that they are corrupt so other variables may be taken into account, and if it is true, then I feel like the corrupted cores may of lost a lot of their personality, as space core just says nonsense about space over and over, fact core gets detail wrong, and rick, well, I can't describe rick, as for the portal 1 cores, I feel like they were programmed for the sole purpose of stopping GLaDOS as the only one that seems remotely aware of anything is curiosity, but it is interesting to note they scream when burned, and the anger core even expresses fear when near the incinerator, but if it is true, then I feel like it would only be a few select cores

My working theory: think of Aperture’s perpetual testing initiative. Think of their “competition” being the likes of Black Mesa. Now, we know Aperture at least created the portal gun. Is it not possible they have mastered inter dimensional or multiversal travel? Could they have “stolen” other tech if so? There’s evidence that points to such. But there’s a lot we’ll never know due to valve not continuing beloved franchises.
