Seeing how many indie cartoons started appearing on youtube in the last few years really warms my heart. Hazbin Hotel & Helluva Boss, Lackadaisy, TheAmazingDigitalCircus, Underverse, Ramshackle, TheEarthGuy, Godspeed, Atlas and the Stars, and now THIS! I'm telling you guys right now, this is the future of the shows, artists deserve to have their creative freedom, and indie projects are a key to that. I'm already invested in the plot, keep it up! EDIT: Okay, so many people replied and mentioned even more indie series, so here is an update to the list: Murder Drones (Can't believe I forgot that one), Monkey Wrench, Epithed Erased, Fox in Space, Onegezlling, Mechwest, Eddsword (thats like the OG indie animation!), Far Fetched, Satina, Scattershot (but we only have a thesis film), Sublo and Tangy Mustard, Hugo's Mind Palace, Robots moons and raccoons (This one definitely needs to blow up more), Horizonauts, Heathens, Dungeon Flippers, Cosmic Travelers, Punch Punch forever, Spice Frontier, Cliffside, Long Gone Gulch, Sam Hex and The End of Magic, House on the outlands, Pain Girl, aaaaand Catching Up!

It could use some work, the characters look nice, but the episode fails to tell us who are we exactly getting to meet here, who are they, what is their relation, what is this world, why are we here. A pilot has the job of telling the audience why we should stick and watch it. Overall it was nice, the animation and the acting were good, I don't think it was a bad work, just a little tweaks here and there
@superkubus-nk8lb11 ай бұрын
@@AtelierOfWeebsyeah, exactly, it kinda feels bad to talk about problems of independent animation, but it really felt like there is some tweaking needed, mostly in character and pacing departments. The exposition dump at the start sound cool in concept, but i would prefere for it to be told by some character (maybe main girl's caretaker telling her the legend, and then we cut to her searching for the moon shard or smth) it would be cliché but at least we would see what our characters' motivation is, since now is like they are just walking around idly doing some sidequests

I've seen this all done before and better. There was nothing to hook me in. Dialogue is bland. Lore dump exposition is awful. Setting is generic horror on da sea totally not cuthulu mythos at home. And the protagonists are literally not interesting, completely smooth no edge no nothing. I swear to god I've already seen this episode done in another cartoon already. Give me something, anything to remember this as unique. People's taste in art has fallen into the fucking gutter. I love how "show don't tell" this is with how it implies that the kids broke the moon and foreshadows that "ankle" is the titan. Umi (海) is Japanese for "sea" so the name of the show is referring to the 2 characters. 18:13 Japanese text are the English words "miracle musical" transliterated. I also really appreciate the "hard of hearing" type subtitles. My hearing isn't that bad (but it also isn't the best).

I might be dumb, but how is it implied that the kids broke the moon? And how is Ankle implied to be the Ocean titan?
@SkySpiral7_Lets_play10 ай бұрын
@@stefperb9531 1:02 the kids are shown in a picture of the moon breaking 5:49 kids look suddenly guilty when "the shatter" is mentioned 11:05 "we owe it to these people to help after what we did" Not explicitly stated but it does make sense that they somehow caused it. It would explain why the kids are collecting the shards and somehow have a moon shard compass. 12:08 Ankle "knows everything about Bonnie" (which turns out to be moon shard related) and he's briefly shown to have suspicious tassels and a magical/evil sounding voice. We never actually see ankle (except his hair) but his form (especially the tassels) is similar to the 4th titan (Tiamat) shown at 0:21 His entire graveyard scene and 16:26 gives off the impression that he's much more powerful than he's letting on

There are so many indie pilots on KZbin it’s too easy for things to fly under the radar and holy smokes it’s so unfortunate I haven’t seen this talked about more, you could have told me this was an official pilot to a mainstream animated series and I would have believed you. The quality is just amazing on all fronts! That intro with the type writer exposition just made me think of Porco Rosso so that's already a win! The animation is stunning particularly the waves I could stare at them for hours on loop. Great characters both main and background in term of looks and personality. The design of the settings of each location looks well loved. Ankle is an amazing tease of a character. DISM; that song fills me with so much dread, but here dream sweet in sea major actually feels nice, welcoming even And that ending song is FANTASTIC! It's so melodic and sweet. The end credit slides too are a welcome sight. Hope we see more of this beautifully curated world! I'm hooked!
@the_dexman10 ай бұрын
have you listened to the entirety of Hawaii part ii? It's not dream sweet playing in the end, it's the first song, Introduction to the Snow. It's much slower and more contemplative as opposed to Dream Sweet's quick and foreboding introduction, which is probably why it feels welcoming. It's the opening song after all.
