The modifications on the 572 Husky are just about perfect: more horse power without losing a lot of torque. Since I use nothing but vintage chainsaws on my channel, I like the bucking videos that you do with vintage saws the most. Your tree felling accuracy never ceases to amaze me.

Love the vintage chainsaws in action. We had 3 tree surgeons in my family back in the 80’s. My father was one of them. He is since passed on. Watching these old saws brings back good memories.

That's totally the case Buckin as far right saw for the size of wood ! For instance I have been running the new Stihl 500i and in bigger wood the 660 just crushes the 500i , but in smaller wood the 500i just screams through it like the 572. Just not as much low end. I like the cutting content with comparisons, it's fun to watch ! Have a great day everyone !

Love seeing the 572 run. My primary saw is a newer 576 built up by Steve’s Saw Shop in Lolo, MT and that thing is an absolute animal in medium to medium-large wood. You are so right though about always keeping the revs up. As soon as you release that trigger you are lifting the bar to let it get a grab again. It almost feels like the carb is a bit undersized or something. Probably doing it for emissions or something.

This content is perfect to me. You are showing some much about so many saws, chains, concepts, techniques that I cannot imagine what you would do instead. I first saw you on Ax Men when they came back a year or so ago and when I started watching KZbin videos at the start of the pandemic, I found your page while searching for some info on chainsaws. I don't think I have missed a video since and watched many old videos.... Anyway, I love the content, watching you cut, in of itself, would keep me coming back but the climbing, splitting, ax work etc... is phenomenal!

Glad you’re giving some love to the 572. So many people bash on the new saws. I have a 550 and a 572 and love em. I’ve got a 28” bar on the 572 and would love to add the grind element. Even a good hand round filing makes it impressive in big hard wood. I agree, they like to scream vs bogging down. They definitely wake up after 5 tanks of fuel or so.

That new still 500i chainsaw is a beast and at 79cc with a 24 inch and what they call 25 in still light bar it'll weigh in around 19.8 lb ready to work and it's a horse know who doubt about that but the throttle response is like no other and the torque is flat out amazing in hardwood I don't know what they do in softwood but in hardwood I've had the opportunity to tinker with one a bit and it's by far the best chainsaw I've ever touched

This content is great! I am running an older huski 570 and I initially thought that there was something wrong with it because it had a limited ‘bottom end’. After playing with it a little, I have found it a fun saw to run, especially in green timber, not so much in dead wood. You are 100% right about the grind though, after watching what you do with hand filing, I have made this little saw fly through the timber. ( Hi from Australia! )

I could have told you last year to get a new modern Husky saw. Put an excellent grind on it with a Stihl bar and add a link. You would save time and money on fuel. I have a Husky 543XP and I cut buck 1.5 pickup trucks of firewood on lesst then 2 fill ups! :) If it is white oak I use two fillups, , olive a bit less, and Italian pine and other fruit wood 1.5 tanks. :) Stoked and excited you put this vid up. :) All the best. :)

in response to your question, hell yeah i wanna see more bucking. in the UK people generally seem to just see chainsaws as a tool and just use the tool sorta thing, we don't run big bars or stand up and buck, we don't run skip chains, and we sure as hell wouldn't grind a square point on a chain. its nuts that we dont, and its so refreshing to see a guy who actually cares about the industry and wants to better it. especialy as a young guy somewhat new to the industry a lot of guys all tell me i dont have the experience to try new stuff like run big bars etc. ridiculous. keep them coming Buckin' :)

Hey Buckin' another nice video. Nick's video was great too. You "might" find that the 500i likes its rakers slightly taller than you are accustomed to running with other saws. Might be similar to the 572 you run in this video in that regard. Enjoy running all your saws sir!

@@BuckinBillyRaySmith I'm in touch from time to time with a few guys in the UK and Ireland that have been running 500i saws for a while but haven't got one myself - all my saws are old timers in comparison. I honestly don't cut enough to justify a 500i. Some of these guys commented on chain feeling too grabby if they had rakers at the height they use for other saws but I dont think there is a huge difference. I guess raker height will be like tooth angle - change it to what the saw likes in the wood you cut most often! You are the right man to figure out what a saw likes and you'll do that with the 500i, just like you did with the 572. It might even have been the chain itself that was the issue. Stay well Mr Smith and keep up the good work.

@@BuckinBillyRaySmith Got to run a 500i for a "few" cuts on Saturday past - It has been in use for about a year with a guy that normally works for a tree service company. He took down a big old wind damaged oak for a local farmer. No mods as such and I have to say its a nice saw. He said it really woke up after about 10 tanks of fuel. He is mostly in hardwood and tends to run 20 and 25" bars with Oregon chain. Didn't think to ask him whether he has been running his depth gauges any differently with the 500i...
