as a longtime Porter fan with bias I do not hesitate to disclose, i’m FULLY enamored with this album (9.2/10 after averaging out my song scores). that being said, you murdered this review. you approach it through such a professional, objective lens. Musician is also my favorite song, such a well-structured and well-written piece of music. I could play a loop of Musician’s piano outro for hours.

By far my favourite. Usually with albums, in general, I only like a few songs. Porters smashed it out the park with this one.

I have a lot, LOT of respect for people who critique pieces of music from artists they idolize and don't just dump blind support upon blind support onto it. Although I personally love a lot of the tracks you were indifferent to, the fact you listened to the music objectively and aren't afraid to say your unbridled opinion is very admirable. Been a viewer for a while now and I don't plan on going anywhere 💚💚💚

Dullscythe to me, was a presentation of how dull his writing was when trying to write music again. He felt stuck, like his talent or his “scythe” was just dull. The very beautiful section of dullscythe during the second half, feels like a happy ending. It feels like Porter finally sharpened his scythe and found a way to carve his path and to write.

I cannot stop crying over Wind Tempos. I feel its a representation for someone with anxiety and depression, as the first part can be considered as just noises, it feels like he was isolated with only noises in his head, but as soon a voice tell him to calm down and the piano starts playing, i feel thats when he found hope and all the noises dissapears and its the songs became isolated on the piano and voices which i think is Rika (porter’s girlfriend) reassuring him and helping him calm down. And her telling him that everything is going to be okay. :’)

Definitely gonna be my favorite album this year. Covid has really brought me out of dubstep and really enjoy much more soft music that hits hard in your soul. I still listen to dubstep but it’s usually more on the emotional colorful side. This album to me is so much better than worlds because it’s not so much edm rather it’s just porter Robinson.

Loved the review man, I totally agree with everything you said. Musician has been my recent favorite after Look at the Sky but listened to Fullmoon Lullaby feat. Wednesday Campanella (another favorite of mine) and now that's my favorite. As you said this album is a grower, over the years l'll love the whole album. Same thing happened for Worlds, I only liked Sad Machine and Lionhearted and then slowly started loving the whole album after listening to his Worlds set.

Honestly, I didn't expect you to review this album as I don't think it falls under the "Dark Electronic Music" category you usually review on your channel. I've listened to the album twice so far. The first time around, I didn't really get the hype around it. On the second time, I found there are some songs I enjoyed (Look At the Sky, Get Your Wish, Wind Tempos, Musician, Blossom, Untold, and Something Comforting) but I'm afraid I still don't get the hype. I'm glad he finished the album though as I know it was a long time coming. Great review as always and glad to see you chopped off the COVID hair :D

I am an old PR fan. Since before you could get his stuff on iTunes or Spotify... I remember when the Spitfire EP came out. I remember thinking PR was on track to dominate the mainstream EDM scene. Then Language came out. Oh god, the emotions that Language brought out. I knew then that PR was more than just mainstream. He was special. Then came Easy with Mat Zo, then came Worlds when I was 17. See, I have a personal attachment to Worlds. Worlds really shook me. Worlds was one of the key albums among others of 2014-2015 that really saved me... saved me, huh. You hear that a lot these days. This saved me. That saved me. They saved me. The thing about Worlds is that it gave me hope. Fellow Feeling for example. The 1st drop was absolutely insane. I could not think of anything else that sounded similar. Then came the lyric “Let me explain” and everything there after just made me drop to my knees and cry hard. The 2nd drop was just pure bliss. It gave me hope. Natural Light was an out of body experience kinda like the “Open your eye” scene from the movie Dr Strange. I don’t think I even wanna talk about Goodbye To a World. Every other song made me feel happy. From Divinity, to Fresh Static Snow to Hear the Bells to Lionhearted. Felt Like I was floating. Above everyone and everything. I’m way better now but when I listen to Worlds I just can’t help but smile and laugh. It brings me joy. That being said, I’m having the hardest time enjoying this new album with the exception of Dullsycthe and maybe the latter half of Wind Tempos. The album is too sugary. Unbalanced, lopsided more on the side of pop. It’s too much. Don’t get me wrong, the quality is great. And sure there are some cut deep lyrics but I struggle to find one memorable part of the album. I feel like Worlds is a movie and Nurture is the happy ending to a 3 part saga but we’ve skipped the middle somehow. Unless you wanna count the Worlds or Shelter tours as the middle ground. I don’t know why I took the time to write this. I don’t know if what I’m saying even makes sense. I’m rambling at this point. Nurture just isn’t what I was hoping for. Or maybe I’m just not ready for this album yet. Who knows. If you made it this far, thank you for listening. God bless you.

This is my favorite album. Every one of the singles were released exactly when I needed them to help me get through rough points in my life. This album is easily a 9.5/10 for me. I'll agree with what you said about Trying to Feel Alive though. it's a great track on its own, but an even better one in the context of the album. I also thing some of the song transitions could've been better. For example, at the end of Lifelike, if he had the opening beeps of Look at The Sky come in to seamlessly transition into it. That would've been awesome I think. Great review!
@kyanward90653 жыл бұрын
I'd give it a 9/10, I was incredibly hyped for it seeing as so many of the singles have been favourite songs of mine over this past year, despite my music tastes being more centred around metal and rock. On the most part my hype was rewarded, there's a couple of songs I'm not really into at all, like Blossom and dullscythe, but I can appreciate that they're still really well made songs, just not my thing. I love how personal the album feels, how it feels like Porters talking to me about those struggles and it really hits hard emotionally at times. I also love the other parts of this project, the music videos are great - the Musician one even made me cry on my first watch of it - and his Secret Sky event was fantastic too. My top 5 tracks from this album would be: 1) Musician 2) Mirror 3) Something Comforting 4) Look At The Sky 5) Wind Tempos

Also a huge metalhead, like the heaviest stuff I can find but Worlds released when I was still heavily into EDM and Porter has a soft spot in my heart. Nurture is AMAZING, I played the crap out of the singles which makes me wish I waited. Unfold is easily my favorite song, wind tempos a close second.

Imagine if Porter did a collab with Koan Sound.... also, personally Trying to Feel Alive was by far my favorite, I'm surprised to see more people didn't fuck with it on the same level. The track just takes me back to being 15-16ish, living back home and 5-10mins away from all my best friends, going to school every day where you know everyone, then as soon as the bell rings hitting the pubs and bars or just going into the city and hitting the streets and various dank spots with a couple bottles of wine and a spliff. Then clubs/shows, a big group of friends, and beautiful women all weekend. No bills, no bullshit. Ik the track ain't even about anything like that but its just an instant nostalgia cannon for me personally regardless. The whole album though overall is really good. Been following Porter since I was like 13 or something, before even Spitfire, its crazy to see how far he has come.

I definitely feel what this guy is saying and can understand and respect his points. Like maybe a lack of variety in some tracks as far as tone and some similar themes going on in the album. But I think that was the intention, if not wholly. And I love it for that. It may be cohesive to a fault, but I really love this album and especially tracks like Mother, Musician, etc. The live performance he did was amazing as well. If you haven't seen the Nurture livestream concert go check it out here guys! Some good improvisation, remixes of older tracks, etc. Although Mother wasn't included in this video -_- But! the lights and visuals are amazing. kzbin.info/www/bejne/innNlp57atVll9k

Really enjoyed this album, even on the first listen it somehow had this sense of nostalgia. The quality of it is really consistent imo, each song has a real emotion to it, even if a lot of the songs sounded similar. My favorites right now would have to be Musician and Trying to Feel Alive, lyrically I think they're both amazing, and they're both put together brilliantly. Also, a bit unrelated, but I really like these one-off reviews of lighter music. Obviously I'm here for the bass music stuff, but it's a lot of fun to hear your thoughts on stuff that's so vastly different to what you usually review.

Get Your Wish was the only single I liked. I was a little disappointed during the first few playthroughs, but after giving it some more listens, my feelings about this album definitely improved. It's so emotional and meaningful. It helps me to listen to it all together, not just one song by itself. Overall a good album, not as "edm" as Worlds, but it's not trying to be another Worlds. 7/10 (Also I agree with lots of the criticisms you mentioned in your video)
