It's quite strange that you didn't enjoy Unfold, I feel like a lot of Porter's fans will put Unfold on their top Nurture songs, including me. But I'm glad you enjoyed the more underrated songs like dullsycthe and do-re-mi.

idk i'm a huge porter fan, have been listening since a bit before worlds, unfold just didn't really seem like it meshed with the rest of the album to me. Not a bad track at all, but compared to the rest of the album it just brings it down for me.

@@carson2889 fair enough, i just really, really love the electronic, funky sounds made in Unfold a lot haha. Unfold is not my personal best but it still deserves a high position in my book with just how breathtaking it sounds.

super huge fan of the boy here as well, still this song doesn't stand in my 10 faves by him :) so I guess it "can" happen :D

Unfold may grow on you. You should check out the Second Sky 2021 version, mashing it up with Language and Divinity. It’s lyrically one of Porters most powerful songs

i feel like you’d really enjoy velocity design comfort by sweet trip!! since you liked the instrumental tracks here. It’s really fun glitchy IDM but it has a lot of dream pop/shoegaze moments intertwined. A very experimental album but still very catchy at the same time. A groundbreaking band in the IDM/dream pop scene

I love how raw and human this album is. Not something you'd usually expect from edm. One of my favorite albums for sure.

That was perfect timing. While you were listening to dullscythe, the sun started shining while the strings came in. Truly beautiful timing.

Top 10 2021 for sure But keeping the album aside You being so comfortable with yourself is very infectious and I found your personality really entertaining for the whole reaction.

Great reaction! Couple things. As someone who studied music in college and listens to most genres, I’d encourage you to explore EDM. Often times those who disregard EDM do so without actually understanding what it is. EDM, in my opinion, is the most varied genre in music. This is because electronic music can be pop, hip hop, folk, country, rock, etc. EDM simply means it incorporates electronic elements. EDM does not have a sound. I would argue that everyone can find sub genres of EDM that they like, if they get past the stigma that EDM is button pushing, predictable, and lacks depth. Some enjoyable albums off the top of my head: Porter Robinson - Worlds Madeon - Adventure Kasbo - Places We Don’t Know Griz - Ride Waves Illenium - Ashes Odesza - A Moment Apart Jai Wolf - The Cure to Loneliness Seven Lions - Where I Won’t Be Found Hopefully you can find something in this list that you enjoy. If an album doesn’t do it for you, there is a vast amount of variety within the genre. Let me know what genres you typically enjoy, and I’ll see what I can recommend!

This album is a grower for sure, once you delve into the lyrics and then the sounds start to make more sense. On first listen for me, it was a 7, it has since grown to a 9 and might even reach a 10 in the future and has become an essential album for me alongside OK Computer and Ants From Up There

Dislike for the Unfold slander.

I feel like get your wish could be about making a return. Porter had a huge break before nurture, and it really makes sense in that context. It could be porter, asking some imaginary person how it felt to walk on water, being to resurface. He's looking for confidence in others to take that step forward and "walk on water" himself. Did you get your wish could also be something similar. Floating to the surface, quicker than you sank could also be about making a return to the top. Who knows though

Not finished with the video yet but I will say if you enjoyed this album I highly recommend Porter's 2014 album "Worlds." It leans a lot further into the electronic side of things but it's definitely worth the listen!
@quasarkid2 жыл бұрын
It's me the dude from twitter - Worlds, his first album, is a love letter to online communities and escapism. Nurture, which came out 7 years later, is him coming to terms with his impostor syndrome and creative block. He would lock himself away and dedicate himself to make music, but it all ended up sounding horrible to him. It wasn't until he went out into nature and experienced life that he felt like he had something to write about. It is an intensely personal album, and the lyrics are a bit simplistic, but I think he's able to put some pretty complex emotions poignantly. EDM might not be your thing but as far as EDM albums go I would say it's one of if not the best. You said all the EDM you've been exposed to has been super cringe and I can totally understand that haha. I know this was a bit out of your comfort zone but it looks like you at least got some enjoyment out of it.

That break in the middle definitely messed with your enjoyment on the latter tracks. Personally I think this album is meant to be an experience, and I think that if you listened to it continuously, you probably wouldn't think that some of the songs like Mirror and Blossom were dragging out. As for Unfold, I kinda agree that it's a bit "worse" than the other songs, I personally think Porter is his strongest when he's working alone, which is also evident in his debut album, Worlds. And speaking of which I think you wouldn't enjoy Worlds, especially since you enjoy the mellower sides of Nurture. Worlds is a more "traditional" EDM album (traditional in the sense that EDM songs now sound similar to it, but at the time it was one of, if not the album that changed the direction EDM went). It is also filled with collaborations that, though I personally enjoy them, are weaker than the songs he does solo.
