Only suggestion - Widen the exhaust - seemed to make a difference on mine .

I ported my 359 quite a few years ago and probably went to some lengths that you don't want to do, but the results are really great. Quite a powerful saw for the displacement. The number I used were exhaust O-95.0, C-93.0, duration-172deg. Transfers O-109.5 ATDC, C-107.3 BTDC, duration-143.2deg. Intake 0-75.5 BTDC, C-75.0 ATDC, duration-149.5deg. I milled the cylinder base after removing the gasket (squish at .020), results were from milling the piston as well. I really wanted that tight squish. I also lightened the piston. Muffler mod for sure. Your results look real good after seeing the video cutting wood. I generally run a 24" bar.

Did you open the lower transfers like I did?

Thanks for the reply. I opened up the transfers similar to yours, but I did not cut away any of the base when doing it as you did, or at least very minimally and unintentionally where the cutting burr nipped there a tiny bit. Did a smooth cut away fading up to the base. Did you run a compression check after finishing, just curious what you might have come up with, say compared to a mod with a tighter squish. All my modded saws I shoot for .020" and sometimes end up slightly under. Some are heavy users (tree removal work) and so far no burned up yet. The only damage so far with any of them is that the 359 suffered a broken or simply came out circlip, which put a deep perfectly incised scar going up the cylinder wall to near the combustion chamber. God knows what happened to that clip piece of metal after that. I thought all was lost, but managed to repair it. Some eardrum damage too, that from a Stihl though.

No I didn’t check the compression after, but I definitely have to use the decompression valve to pull it over. Now you have me curious, I’m going to do that. I’ll let you know where it’s at. By now it has at least a dozen hrs since the build. Thanks for checking out my videos!

Love my 359 for smaller jobs(max 24” skip tooth). Ported 372 for big wood(36” skip tooth). Just assembling my 359 with 47 mm Hyway top end. 30 squish, exhaust105, trans 124, intake 73/73. All new bearings, seals. Like new…..well see….

I’ve seen it! I’d be willing to try it on my ms180 for sure!

First off I’m by far no expert and have never done a 359 but I do have one that someone else ported and it’s mean. I have Ported a few saws tho. I like the work you did on the lowers. From what I can see it looks pretty damn good. As far as Intake I wouldn’t move it any more, I think you’re base gasket delete gave it great numbers. You could move the exhaust back to 100 but I wouldn’t go past 100. I would prolly just keep it at 102 to give you some more bottom end power in a smaller saw. Then if you want you could change it later. I’d say it’s a runner and nice work

Also put your intake boot on and aligned correctly and mark a scribe line if there is a lip where it transitions to the jug. Take that down till it’s a nice smooth transition with no lip if that makes sense

Thanks! I was thinking the same so I started reassembling it last night, I can always go back in but I want to try it the way it is! Thanks for the advice!

I just finished your vid.. if you plan to run a 28 I for sure would not raise the exhaust. If you were to run say a 20 you might move it back to 100*

I would personally go for the 100 exhaust with 24 degrees BD. Don’t go for a 28” bar on this one. Can it do it…. Yeah it can but you’re gonna run a 24” much better. You’re lower transfer work looks good to me. Check out a guy named the ironhorse. He does his transfers that way. He also likes 153-155 duration of intake. 22-25 of BD. He actually goes to 98 or 96 exhaust on a 372. If this was my 359 I would go 100 or 99.

I have a few videos of the saw after I finished, I haven’t tried it with a 24” yet but it pulls a 28” pretty good! I’m happy with it so far. Thanks for the info and suggestions! Maybe I’ll build another one!

I would leave ur ex at 102 and maybe drop Intake a smidge to 78 and raise your transfers to 120 for 18bd......
