Portra 800 vs Lomo 800

In this video I compare these two film stocks by taking some portraits of my friends with with my pentax 67. Is Lomo 800 a cheaper alternative ?

Something wrong in the lomography dev or scan I think. I’ve used the film lots of time and never had that purple cast. You can see the cast on the border of the film as well as the actual image so maybe the scanning software has screwed up the inversion a bit? Although it’s a fair point to say pay the extra for portra if it’s easier to scan!

Portra is the tits. 160 is my favourite, though I've never tried 800 for the reasons you mentioned (cost vs find more light). Miss your videos Samson. You're a bloody good photographer.

Portra colors were for sure better. Way more naturalistic. I've only shot Lomo a couple times but both times I rated it at 200 and it turned out quite nice. Not sure its even close to an 800 speed film box wise.

I used a ton of this film in 35mm and 120 and from my experience you can shoot it from 100-800 without pushing or pulling and pushing it to 6400 is also no problem. surprisingly It doesn't really ads grain or contrast. But for sure its always important to expose well and consistentespecially

Don't understand how you didn't get super orange-y colors/ skintones with the Portra800. I couldn't get rid of the over saturation of the Portra so I gave it up for now (35mm version)

in direct sunlight, I've found Lomo 800 looks very close to your cc'd versions. if anything, mine have a slight green cast. It could be that Lomo is more likely to shift colors indoors/outside of direct sunlight. Or perhaps being a year expired has more an effect than we would wager.

I actually prefer the Lomo 800 for these portrait shots. Mainly because it doesn’t look like the usual Portra colours everyone is used to seeing. Don’t get me wrong, the Portra is a win for sure but the Lomo just gives something different :) Really enjoy your videos and photography.
