super small thing but I really appreciate how you said "How *I* Paint Skin" instead of "How *To* Paint Skin"
@DaveGreco4 жыл бұрын
That's super important imo. So many videos of how to do this and that like its THE way.. best thing we can do is take small tips here and there and find out what works best for all of us.
@compathent_28946 жыл бұрын
Explaining your process as you do it is so much better than watching time lapse videos. There's tons of videos where artists will speed things up, and they just can't fit as many wisdom nuggets in.
@DaveGreco6 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Yeah sometimes a piece doesn't come out exactly perfect since its like "I hope this comes out well"! but its more of a process right and how to go about thinking about it.
@rebelangel82275 жыл бұрын
i agree i hate watching timelapse for tutorials cuz you miss so much.. but i still like watching a speed paint for the basic idea.. but when you gotta learn something speed is the worst way to go.. the novice needs to see the nuances the master goes through to get something done..
@xxxsleepingawakexxx4 жыл бұрын
I believe they speed it up on purpose and the title "time lapse tutorial" is intentional for click bait purposes

This is honestly such a fantastic and in-depth tutorial, thank you so much for not making it a speed paint but discussing your choices and explaining them as you paint. I really hope you'll continue making the step by step videos like you mentioned in this one, I'm really looking forward to going through your channel and for your future work! Thanks so much for sharing your knowledge and tips!

I would love you as my art teacher, you have broken it down and explained it in detail. God bless you for taking the time to do this, I'm one of your fans now. Thank you for not doing those time lapse things, thank you for explaining in depth and doing it step by step.

A fantastic video and as others have said much better than watching time-lapse videos which do you little to assist those who are very much at the beginning or beginner stage and it was very cool of you to make your brushes freely available. I don't have any natural talent and therefore struggle to use shadows and highlights properly. I've watched a load of KZbin taking grey scale to colour and this video of yours was the first one which really make sense and agree with all the comments below -thank you so much for giving up your time

Ahoy Dave! I just want to tell you that I greatly appreciate this skin painting video and I am planning on face planting into many of your others as this week goes along. I am already a follower of your Instagram and because of that I recognized your name when it came up on my KZbin! I am a big fan of your painting style and am trying to get better at carrying my pencil heavy illustration techniques into digital painting and your style among others feels very natural to me! If you would like I will tag you when I post the Overwatch Mercy piece I am currently working through and will be applying these lessons to! Again, thank you and please know that you help we artists a ton when you make and share these! Much love from Derrick "Captain Dutz" Utz! (P.S. - Thanks for the brushes too!!!)

Thanks again for great concise demo. I Personally love the talking aloud about thought process behind decision making. As a new/learning artist I am very curious about how professional artists stay organized and what their standard operating procedure is. I just wanted to suggest/ask to define the light source early on, I think would really help with decision making for where to add light/dark values and highlights, might help people be able to visualize and follow along more easily. Thanks again dude, great channel!

Dave these are so fantastic! Love your walk-throughs, and they are so much more effective teaching wise than just a time-lapse. This one was spot on :) Also, in regards to the saturation climbing... of late I've been letting myself run a little hot in that regard too, then just finish the piece with a touchup de-sat layer with a concealer mask set -- then re-apply the saturation as needed. [ oh yeah, and mad props to the character herself -- she was/is just gobsmackingly beautiful -- in line work, illustrated or painted! ]

Do you think it's not terribly harder to get a studio position if you're not super picky about needing to work for a specific company in the beginning? I'm going to college right now and studying game development and I'm most drawn to 2D concept and illustration.
