I've been mostly to other sites that present Portuguese conversation like Talk the Streets, which I love and love the instructor, but the actual meanings are so hard to follow, and I'm just starting out and will be visiting Portugal in a few weeks and just want to get my pronunciation down and a few important "survival" phrases for starters.

Really excellent lessons. Thank you, Carla! English endings with -tion and -sion, are generally pronounced the same, I think. So, attention and tension. Similarly, I couldn’t pick up any difference in pronunciation between cao and sao. Am I missing something?

PLEASE tell people that it is acceptable, and the norm in North and Central Portugal, to roll the first r or 2 r's together in a word. Much easier for some of us than the French throat r.
