ABSOLUTEY DISGRACEFUL BEHAVIOUR by the PGA Tour. Players stayed loyal to them and didn’t sell out to LIV for the money. And now that loyalty is shoved in their faces. Disgusting behaviour. DISGUSTING

Golf has not gotten "better" as a product, as Tirico claims. It is now somewhat restored to what it was before the tour players jumped ship for LIV, and now both the US and Euro tours are stained by this hypocrisy. The biggest names from LIV were already eligible to compete in the majors, so the product only changes at the regular weekly stops.

Tirico is wrong asserting the PGA Tour Loyalists "lost" something by remaining "loyal" while the LIV pioneers made $ millions. No, they didn't lose anything. They just didn't make a fortune and that's because they didn't take a calculated risk. Every single one of the LIV pioneers took a big risk and they were richly rewarded for it. No guts, no glory. Pro golfers are independent contractors. This is a high stakes business and risk takers stand to make big bucks. What I love most is how sanctimonious the Golf Channel talking heads have been throughout the entire LIV drama. Claiming the 'defectors' sold out to human rights violators, taking blood money, etc. Trying to shame Phil, Dustin, Patrick, Cameron, Bubba, Brooks et al. And now look, the PGA just crawled into bed with the Saudi's. It's all fine and dandy. Good for the game of golf. Will grow the game of golf. There's more expansion coming. Well, there is more to all of this than meets the eye. The PGA caved for several reasons. One reason may be that a number of high profile players were ready to join LIV and that could break the dam, or open the floodgates to even more loss of players. The PGA saw the writing on the wall. They wouldn't have voluntarily embraced a merger with LIV. No, there were other reasons. Multi-year litigation would shine the light on the dark side of their business. The execs would spend all of their time in court - for years on end. No, the real reasons will trickle out over time. Call Hollywood. Movies will be made about this.

Backlash from this may not even be Saudi itself as much as for the Tour and the way they handled this in such a shit way. The Tour took such a firm moral high ground stance and let their players put themselves out there to defend it all to make a deal when they could without even informing the players. I get the pragmatism and business sense to come to a deal in this but I also have a hard time seeing the Tour positively after they took the path of shaming everyone about the source of the money when they never had to go that route to try and shame or guilt players from making a jump. When you see that you really can’t listen to Monohan speak about why the deal makes sense, even though it easily does, because it’s so glaringly hypocritical from the stance they’ve had. I mean it’s hard to look much worse than aligning with 9/11 victims families to go after LIV to then hammer out a deal in secret and not even bother to speak to those people before announcing the deal. I think that is going to harm their forward moving business more than Saudi itself will but I guess we will see.
