Another Ford PowerStroke Tow Truck with WEIRD electrical gremlins!
This 2014 F550 Flatbed apparently keeps all the accessories (Radio, Windows, Wipers etc.) energized ALL THE TIME, quickly DRAINING both big batteries overnight resulting in a NO-CRANK the next morning.
Customer tells me that the BCM and Ignition Switch were already replaced with no success.
Let's see why this Ford PowerStroke is POSSESSED, and if it will need any expensive parts to get back on the road...

Those Ford trucks can be something to deal with, Ivan. I noticed you did jump to the passenger side battery; I have always been told to do that on those trucks and I have 2 of them. I disagree that you got everything working on the truck is a miracle; no, you knew exactly what you were doing. I had an issue with my Powerstroke recently. I got to work and worked all day, came back to my truck and it was a no crank, no start. (It wouldn't even click.) I called my mechanic and he told me the wires going to the cooling fan clutch had been chopped up by the fan after the plastic conduit broke and the body control module sensed an open in the circuit and was holding out the starter circuit. I asked if he had been drinking. What could a fan clutch circuit have to do with ANY of that? I got a ride home and went back with my Excursion and trailer and brought my truck home. I removed the fan shroud and those wires were ground up. I replaced the fan clutch and wiring and it started right up. GREAT VIDEO!

I'm not sure if it's a Ford thing, or if it's a problem with aftermarket truck up-fitter companies (and their typically shoddy wiring) .... but we have a couple of those newer Ford tow trucks that would just randomly turn all their lights on and off while parked in the storage yard at night. It could be several hours since anyone has been near the truck and the lights just randomly turn on and off. It's not just a quick flash, either... the lights turn on and stay on for several minutes before they turn back off. This happens with at least 2 or our Ford tow trucks that I know of. I've seen it myself. These trucks were purchased new and other than having the towing equipment installed, the trucks are 100% original. It's the interior and exterior lighting, but not the aftermarket emergency lighting. Only the original Ford lighting is doing this. It's weird.

Sounds like the BCM or the RCDLR (if it has it, not sure) is receiving a wakeup signal. It could be radio interference too. A signal simulating an unlock command from the key fob. Ivan can figure it out, I'm sure of it.

Older than this, back to 98, Fords have a known issue where if metal filings or ferrous debris get in the magnetic (Hall effect) sensors, that tell the truck someone has opened the door, they will think the doors are open even when they are closed. The solution is to spray wd40 in the lock all around the rotating latching plate and test, until you wash the debris out. Not sure if it was ever intermittent like this, but it was an easy fix for my 2 door after years of my overhead lamps not turning off. Not sure if it is anything like this that could be doing that with those trucks since you say outside lights are on too.

There are fearless techs that can't, there are knowledgeable techs that cower away.. Now and again you get someone like Ivan who is both!

Ivan, I hope this helps. Anytime you install a new or used BCM for those super duties. You have to go into security and reset the parameters. That is a must. Otherwise you will not be able to program the keys. Now I use the Ford IDS. I have no idea your scanner has the ability. You might want to look into it. Under security/programming keys/reset parameters. I hope this helped Ron.

I had one with a wiring connector heavily corroded. It would latch the internal relay of the bcm turning it on intermittently. Customer could not shut their vehicle off unless they pulled off battery ground. When ground cable was reconnected bcm would intermittently turn on lights thus killing the battery overnight.

Years ago I had a Ford 1971 Torino that one night that had a dual filament lamp in the left rear light assembly short both filaments together. When I got home I turned off the ignition, removed the key, and the turn signals, wipers, and radio where still on. The shorted lamp was somehow back feeding power into the accessory system. Replaced the lamp and problem was fixed.

A worthwhile subscription with FORScan using your j2534 is a hugely worthwhile investment for fords. Immediate asbuilt programming of a ton of used modules, and tons of dealer level configurations and little tweaks. Also, key in switch is super common on 06+ fords and it’s usually ignored in my area. Customer never notices.
