Why can't I program the keys to the original BCM??
Time to jump through some hoops...
After getting the truck running, the LOW OIL PRESSURE warning is ON the dash...that's a bit concerning.
Any more bugs to work out? Is it ready to return to the customer?

Ivan, I just want to thank you for taking the time to share your knowledge with people on the web. Yes, you probably make extra money off youtube, but you could also just be doing your thing in peace and quiet. Sharing knowledge, in my opinion, is what the web is really for. I didn't see any mistakes. What I saw was a valiant effort to resolve a problem(s). I can't really imagine all the stress involved with different info coming at you and trying to react to the mixed info. Great job as usual Ivan, you always seem to use your head and analyze the situation before jumping the gun and resolve to just throwing parts at it. A genuine master technician.

I think the Xtool is what programmed the key.. The Autel even said that it was "already programmed". The only other thing you did was "reset parameters" with the Autel, and then suddenly the keys worked. Interesting stuff

And that, boys and girls, is why I cannot do video. Ivan says "Dang! I still can't get into the PATS." I'd have unleashed a stream of profanity that would make a sailor blush and my neighbor to come over to see who I was killing. I get going and I use fuq, like a comma. 🤣 Then, I gitter done.

I like the comment here “ scanner cannon to the rescue!” The Key is knowing when to fire it! Really persistent diag required here. Probably much more frustrating for you when trying to figure out why your tools don’t work in addition to why the vehicles don’t work. Great job!

Great job Ivan! For this job you need several scanners :-) Easy repair of the oil pressure switch. Weird story with the BCM and the turbo - replacements did worse!

Shop that changed the motor and turbo, the driver, The owner, have no or very little COMPREHENSION of Diagnostics and enjoy parts changing and guess work and causing more problems 😂 call a diag man .Great video👍 NPR 👍

Dealing with a fleet truck is weird... I used to to shipping for a company and the last driver had all sorts of weird complaints about the box truck, like it would lose power, or not shift right... And I drove it for a year and never once experienced any issues like that, thing was perfect... Yet when he would bring it in for service in the past he'd be sending the mechanic on a wild goose chase trying to replicate nonexistant issues.

Your experience is telling you what to do, Ivan. This doesn't surprise me one bit. We don't get to see it too often, but it is refreshing to see you make a mistake especially when you catch it and go the right direction. LOL. That battery on the passenger's side is dated 2/23 and the one on the driver's side, I think you said, was some month in 2021. Those need to be replaced in pairs; at least that is what I have always been taught. That engine wasn't knocking when the oil pressure light was on so, it had to be something in the wiring or sensor, something you are VERY good at finding. Cool fact: back in the late 1970's/early 1980's Toyota had an ad campaign that used the catchphrase, "Oh! what a feeling, TOY-O-TA! GREAT VIDEO!

Not a programmer but in my experience on these trucks when you switch back to the old BCM, you only need parameter reset. 2 years ago I had a f250 that would randomly failed to start eventually becoming a permanent fault. Topdon failed the security access so I switched, successfully, to the Autel 906BT. The problem was pin drag issue on 1 BCM connector and also the PCM wouldn't control the starter relay. Made a jumper to the PCM and truck starts from the key to this day.

3:05 It tells you to cycle the key but also tells you that you will lose security access if you do that. Instructions unclear. What a mystery of language.

Second scanner worked, programming keys in PATS. But since you replaced the original BCM there was the software key mismatch because it was programmed to the replacement. Third reset the software key, but you didn't need to add the key in PATS again, thus the error.

It's crazy how we need two decent scan tools of different manufacturers to work on vehicles but it seems too often we do. One will only work on one vehicle and the next day the other will only work on yet another. Gets expensive. I'm a huge Autel fan and keep a launch on the side. Plus a cheap Topdon bluetooth.

That was weird find and diagnosis! At least it's resolved! Great job Ivan with that crappy Ford. My thought is the SCR or the 9th injector being plugged up for to excessive carbon showing lack of power. Or worn out injectors pouring out to much fuel when it's not necessary. I've worked on those. They suck!! Anyway, great video!!

Smashing Ivan, back on the road :-D Those diagnostic tablets are a bit random with there software ability's. I can see why you have to play musical chairs with the tablets lol. A learning tablet would be nice, ahh that's hacking :)

I had a similar problem with a Ford Explorer. The customer was having issues. So he fired the parts cannon. He bought a new sensor for the security key. Thats when it all hit. Truck locked him out. Needs PATS reset. I googled for a solution. Found a solution. Download the new software onto my laptop. Bought 2 new keys and had them cut. Customer towed hos exploder to my shade tree. It took me about 2 hours to get it done. When i did the lost key program function. And tried to reprogram the keys. Same message. Key is already programmed. So i used the new un-programmed keys. That worked good. Got 2 new ones programmed. Btw. I was using my Launch. No go previously. The program i downloaded got me into the PATS and finally...the last step was to reset. Bam...truck started up with the new keys. Then i tried the old keys..😅 That works good too. Told the customer. Dont mess with the security features of the keys. You learned the hardway. 😅

I have the upgraded model of your soldering iron on the way. The TS101. I bought an Anker Prime 250W PD 3.1 battery pack. This is suppose to be the top of line out right now. The new iron can take a 130W so this pack is one of the only ones that can do that. I just wanted an uber portable iron.

We have a fleet of these things (F450 and F550). They're pretty much junk. 15-20% of the fleet is down for major repair ant any given time. Right now engines are unobtainium so we have trucks sitting for almost a year. The F650 Cummins are just as bad. There are 3 rebuilt engines sitting on the floor awaiting installation.

Ivan those cab and chassis commercial trucks are seriously derated by Ford from the factory in the interest of longevity and emissions output. With that 6.7 you'd get in and expect it to haul ass like the pickup trucks do but that's not the case on those commercial chassis.

The boost issue could be the MAP and or these engine are good for premature turbo failure

Working from the driver's seat and some under vehicle work. What about the exterior, interior and instrument lights? Does the BCM control those lights? Anyway, good one Ivan!

@@brianmiller-iz6vfIt's a TS100 but they came out with an upgraded version which is a TS101. There are several different manufacturers of the same iron. The one I bought is the UY Chan TS101.

Could be an exhaust leak. I think the exhaust runs up inside the right rear cab which is prone to cracking, and then back down to the turbo. It acts just like a bad turbo. I know because my boss had me replace the turbo which didn't fix the issue and ended up removing the cab 12. hours just to pull the cab. The cracked flex pipe was evident.

You need to do a parameter reset with a new bcm you need to program 2 keys as this one was the original keys where already progammed.

You'd think on a ~$100k truck expected to do some hard work that Ford would a steering wheel that would last a few miles. Interetsing upload, thanks Ivan. The moral of the story of this case for me is the difficulty knowing just exactlt what has happened before diagnosis. So kudos to you Ivan for working through the steps and figuring it out.

I used to manage a small fleet of tow trucks and that is not unusual behavior from the drivers. They don't seem to care as long as they can keep going. I've found so many older trucks that have been hacked and patched so many times that you wind up pulling your hair out trying to figure out what originally went wrong.

Great job! Did you try to start it after the Parameter reset, before you programmed the keys again? It looked like to me that the xtool programmed the keys because it said keys in system 2. It just needed a parameter reset.

I would have liked to have seen all the steps followed on camera for programming the keys as the second scan tool appeared to have completed it successfully, but we didn't get to see the steps after, before you switched to the Autel and claimed that worked.

Twin scroll turbos just to provid more linear power, it's fuel savings are mininal and its performance is less than the regular turbo at the top end. In fords anyways.

In regards to the turbo it is most likely starting to wear out as this vehicle is going probably most of the day & most days so loss of boost is to be expected & not having the correct one is also going to effect boost for sure (I do not like turbos they wear your engine out faster .)

so i had commented on the work i did on a similar truck it was a 2011 f250 6.2 gas truck it had its fuse box cut off under the hood and switched before that happened the lights and hvac systems would stay on and the transmission was in a weird default shift strategy because of issues with communication this was a huge problem the program in in the pcm and bcm got screwed up when the wires were cut off the fuse box different issues however you said he kicked the wires under the dash and had starting problem there’s 2 main bulkhead, connectors going out from the dash to the under hood fuses all the way around the front of the bottom of the core support back into the passenger side and plugged into the bcm so if the starting issue returns or the dash is going weird and stalling problem i would look right at the bulkhead connectors there on the bottom of the right side of the steering column and on the bottom of the a pillar driver side the one i had pin fitment problems with was the one on the bottom of the dash right side of the column as far as im aware the design is the same for the diesel and gas engine f250 you just have some differences in the wiring replacement of the sub harness with the fuse box was a lot of work and expensive people use the Upfitter switches and supplied factory wiring don’t use fuse taps there not needed and you want to keep the corrosion out of that fuse box under the hood? very expensive repair and i liked the video it was very informative

Drive it like it's a fleet truck! Way different from a personal vehicle..... I like the way you redirect when the scan tool doesn't work or doesn't make sense. Getting hung up on that would waste ALL your time. I get hung up on even the mispellings or incoherent translations. The scan tool manufacturers NEVER finish their work!

Does thinktool pros ever upgrade things like this so it would be able to program those keys? I have Pros and it “said” it could program a Nissan TCM and couldn’t do that either, had to take to dealer.

Lol, a twin scroll Turbo won't increase power unless it is larger than the unit it replaced. They are designed to reduce lag.

What are you plugging your soldering iron into? I bought the one in your store and thought it was battery operated but it was a 120v plug in. I like the feel of it and the fine point but I was expecting something that was more mobile. Did I miss something or purchase the wrong one??

You have to have the adapter that plugs into the iron and a Li-Po battery. Some of the TS101 irons don't come with the correct adapter. You also have to buy a battery and charger. I bought a TS101 and it didn't come with the correct adapter so I had to buy that separate and also buy the battery and charger. Some of the TS101 irons come with the correct adapter. It will have a yellow end on it.

I’m a fleet mechanic for a snack foods company, and am responsible for 30 route trucks. I never get a good explanation of a problem a driver might be having with his truck. Ask him 5 times what’s wrong, you get 5 different answers!

Ivan.. you should be using AI for some of these simple searches, like "what turns on the oil warning light on the dash of 20xx F350". It will usually give you surprisingly good info and even source it.

If the Turbo is not spooling up more likely it's the variable geometry veins are not moving but as you said If they replace the turbo or something else and it will not run correctly I had to explain this to my idiot nephew who had a Ford 6.0l diesel So whatever happened to being built ford tough to instead of being built ford junk

These scan tool companies have to do a better job making sure all their functions work. It’s BS that you should need a bunch of scan tools because only some features work on some scan tools. Especially for the high costs and subscriptions / update costs they all charge.

That's because they're no longer Built Ford Tough besides this was just barely getting broke in I've seen the old IDI 7.3 get way more miles and the bodies literally falling off the chassis but the truck still runs🤣🤣

The VW bug oil pressure light would blink at idle when the engine was hot. Never did report the actual pressure which I now see is good. Our 2023 Macon S has 12 psi at idle. All for fuel economy? A variable displacement pump. Complicated beyond reason.

The cab and chassis has a totally different turbo than the regular 250. The cab and chassis has a wastegated turbo and the regular truck has a twin scroll turbo. It would be a good idea for them to put the correct turbo back on the truck.

There’s a reason over the road truck owners keep rehabbing their old cat engines. Today’s diesel engines have way too much gee whizz crap on them. Light duty diesels are especially a nightmare!

Here's an 'off-the-wall' suggestion: why not incorporate a provision to store repairs into ecm? CarFax does this, right? So why not have this stored locally in the ecm? Further, to do so would require a mechanic's ID. An ASE like cert number? And, also, this repair data would be stored in giant cloud for all of this mechanic's repairs? Taking it yet another step forward, I'd want a human implant that ledgers all medical procedures done ON ME... .to include fact that I'm allergic to this and that?
