While yes the trailer for Pet Sematary ruined a big moment, it was still a generic forgettable film. Besides, we have seen evil little girls done too death. So 10 seconds of shock doesn't save it. So the original which was labeled as cheesy or funny is still the best one. I'll even take the sequel over the remake.

The only reason they flipped the script was because they didn’t want to do like CGI on a baby like Gage. They wanted to have the older little girl act out the part of the dead child. I can respect that.

Thank you! Honestly, if this switcharound had been done back in the 80’s I wouldn’t have minded as much but we’ve seen SO many scary little longhaired girls within the last two decades. Don’t get me wrong, the actress was really good, but what made the novel and first adaptation stand out was the fact that it was a toddler doing these things.

Trailer aside, I really enjoyed It Comes At Night but at the end asked my co-watcher "but. . .did something come at night?" So we looked online and learned that the title of the film was just a working title that never got changed, and literally does not relate to the content. I think it did a major disservice to the film, which was a solid thriller, but the title seemed to hint at something supernatural that wasn't there.

I remember reading an article saying studies showed that revealing more in a trailer made the average movie goer respond more. So i think trailers now just go to the most average viewers i stead of the specific fanbase

I would definitely rewatch Don’t Breathe! It’s one of my fave horror movies. I never saw the trailer, I went in blind so that might’ve been why I enjoyed it so much. But I’d revisit!

The best idea for a trailer would be something like a prologue. Set the tone of the movie while simultaneously introducing the characters but show nothing of the actual movie itself in it.

Black Christmas 2006! The fact that alot of the scenes in the trailer weren't in the movie and were filmed specifically with a stunt actress for the trailer alone was so dishonest....still one of the worst x

Quarantine was such a trash movie compared to Rec though. Rec is one of the only movies that genuinely scares me and creeps me out every time I watch and it's sooo well done I definitely recommend it to everyone instead of automatically watching the American one. Right now it's 100% free to watch with English subtitles on Crackle too! Gotta rep my fave lol

tbh i think that the fact you can tell what the twist is gonna be in shutter island is a good example of storytelling and movie making. if you’re completely surprised by a twist then it wasn’t plausible and that is a failure of the writer and director, like the twist in sixth sense makes sense after the shock

Same thing as Quarantine- the trailer that was airing on TV for Paranormal Activity showed the final scene. I waited the whole movie for that scene and then was disappointed that it straight up ended on it as the big “wow” moment and the movie was over.

ellie becoming the one thats killed first in the remake of pet sematary is one of the main reasons why i watched it tbh. a 9/10 year old killing people makes more sense than a 3/4 year old killing people. i just think that replacing the scene showing that she gets hit by the semi with the ending scene that shows gage in the car while he watches his undead family approaching the car.

Pet Sematary had the potential to really surprise us with a few subversions, but instead cheaped out and ruined both in the trailers. First, it should have been a surprise when Gage wasn't the one killed. Second, at the end, when Judd walks by his bed, people who hae seen the original would think "oh man, this is where he gets his tendon slit", and then he doesn't. But of course, the trailer shows that it gets cut on the stairs, so the fake out wasn't a surprise.

My favorite horror movie, The Night Flier, had a great trailer. I hadn't seen anything about it when it came on the Sci-Fi Channel in 2003. When I later rented it to see the parts that were cut out I was blown away by the fact that the friggin' DVD cover ruins the big reveal!!!

The worst trailer I've ever seen was for last house on the left's remake. It goes through the plot beat for beat almost all the way down to the twist ending getting shown at the end. it even tells everything that happens in the movie in the order it happened in when you watched the movie

I thought The Invisible Man was marketed the best that it could be. When I first saw the trailer I was like “when is this gonna end like is this the whole movie?” because it showed so much but the great thing about the invisible man was that there was so many cool parts and great twists that they had the leaning room to show a bit more than usual because of how much was still left for the viewer to discover upon their first watch!

I've been trying to avoiding trailers for horror movies for a couple years now. Usually, it helps but not always. Last year, I walked out of many theaters trying to avoid the trailer for Ready or Not. That trailer is so spoilerific but I kind of wish I watched it because it does sell the tone. I was expecting a more straightforward horror film and felt like it was more of a dark comedy so I was disappointed. Damned if you do, damned if you don't.

Better Watch Out has a trailer on par with Velvet Buzzsaw. It ruins the twist from the middle of the movie (and it was done so well!). Not to mention it mistakenly portrays the movie as a comedy. When in fact it's a home invasion horror with one Hell of a psychopath for a villain. I went in knowing nothing except for what you can see on the poster and was blown away by the film. Now it's one of my favourite Christmas horror movies

The trailer for The Ring definitely spoiled the film, as it showed Samara climbing out of the well, which doesn't happen until after the fakeout ending. Thus, when they'd supposedly fixed the situation, I knew things weren't over. On the flip side, the trailer for Hereditary did a great job of giving you the tone of the film without revealing anything.

The worst one that I’m glad I didn’t see before seeing the movie is the directors cut/reissue of the exorcist - I can’t believe they included the spider walk down the stairs - it took the best element and the shock of it out - especially for fans of the exorcist

It Comes At Night definitely had a disingenuous trailer. I found it to be better than the trailer though. A24 loves for DREAD to take center stage in their horrors and this one definitely had it. Not the best... but definitely underrated and mistakenly marketed. Also a great revisit during a pandemic!

I was extremely disappointed in Invisible Man, so I agree it should be on this list. But IMO I was surprised by Shutter Island, didn’t see the ending coming.
