Hello Philip, I am a 45 year old veteran of both Gulf wars and Afghanistan. I know you probably won't read this but, me and my brothers in arms can attest to most of the Muslim faith as being peaceful and accommodating. I have met families that will give you what they don't even have because it's polite. They are not all members of Isis or the Taliban or Al queda. And just to say it I'm proud to have met some of the people I have come into contact with. It was not a fun time over there. But it could have been much worse if everyone acted the way that people think they would have acted. I hope this helps even though I know it probably won't make a difference.

The concepts of what is "controversial", "rough language" and "sexually suggestive" is so vague that I agree with you that creators just want clarity on these matters. If You Tube doesn't want us to ever use curse words or ever show a shot of cleavage in a video then they need to come out and say exactly what is and what isn't allowed, instead of beating around the bush with vague definitions. Perhaps they don't want to limit creativity but in my opinion they are already doing so.

Mr. DeFranco,I am sure, as a woman in her late forties, I am not part of your target audience. A couple of months ago my daughters (17 & 24) introduced me to your program. As a family we enjoy discussing current events, politics and global issues. Their father often gets information from the evening news, I get the big 3 network bulletins and each of our children are informed through social media & internet sources. One evening the girls had a better and more informed position on the topic of the day than any of us. When we started to discuss their sources they showed me your KZbin channel. I have been tuning in a couple of times each week to learn more. It is brilliant. I love that you take great care to fact check your information, choose to recognize those being heroic instead of spreading the infamy of those that are causing harm. I enjoy your mostly positive and unbiased approach to reporting events. The fact that you do acknowledge when you have some bias puts you above most mainstream media outlets, in my opinion. Thank you for providing an informational outlet that isn't geared toward sensationalism. I am so grateful that you are providing an appropriate form of reporting for today's audiences.

This is a repeat/repost of a comment I posted on the Monday video this week, I wanted to post it here so that more people can see it and discuss it. My idea for a better advertising system would be this: Channel creators can choose from a number of tags when uploading a video which show the genre(s) their video falls under, whether it contains controversial content, and more importantly what the recommended age group of the audience would be. Additionally, they can set a base setting for their channel to apply this rating system to their previously existing videos as well as have a default setting for future videos so they don't have to manually set the tags every time, however if the content of the video is different from their typical content they can add or remove tags as necessary. (creators can adjust the settings for existing videos in the future when they feel like they need to make a change to the tags) Then advertisers can pick which tags and age groups they want their ads to appear on videos where they are comfortable with the content of the video their ads are appearing alongside as well as make sure that the advertiser's intended target audience sees it (I.E. Health products will appear on exercise videos, horror movies will play trailers on horror videos, and toys and kid's products appear on toy and children channels. ) KZbin already does this to an extent, but this could make it a bit easier to filter through everything. This can also make it easier for they KZbin kids app and restricted mode to better filter out what you see. Restricted mode can then be full restricted mode or only restrict particular genres, content, or recommend age groups. This system allows for content creators to feel more free to create the content they want by self tagging themselves, and advertisers can be more assured that their ads are appearing where they want them to. Of course you're always going to have people who falsely tag their videos for a variety of reasons, and it's up to KZbin and the community to weed out these false tags and make sure the system is being used appropriately. (Too many people abuse the current system as it is, so there's no telling how many would abuse this) This is just my person idea for a potential system, and whether or not this hypothetical system would work or even how well it would work is unknown. Additionally, I don't know how difficult it would be to implement and maintain this kind of system, as well as how difficult it would be to monitor it and make sure everything is being used appropriately. Who knows, maybe this would work, maybe it wouldn't. It's just one idea among many. (EDIT) While yes, KZbin already does use a tag system for their videos and Advertisers can choose what tags they want their ads to play on, this proposed system is meant to step that up. By providing more tags and having age and "inappropriate content" tags be available, this is meant to help advertisers and restricted mode users to have an easier time filtering what they want their ads to be on/what they want to see. Additionally, with the inclusion of an age rating, perhaps some of the restrictions for demonitization will be loosened for people who make videos with higher age ratings (i.e. Demonitization for "inappropriately language" etc. may be lifted for videos with higher age ratings.) Basically, the hope is that by providing more tags and more accurate filtering advertisers won't be afraid to advertise on KZbin and content creators will feel less restricted in the content they can create. But hey, who knows. This could cause more problems than it fixes, or it could be really good for helping the situation. It's just an idea for a potential solution, not a certain solution that's guaranteed to work.

Weirdos52 That's a very good idea on paper, but I don't think there would be "a few" people abusing that system. There are a lot of straight up douchebags on this site, after all. You could add the feature that if someone is caught breaking the rules once, they don't get ad revenue for a month and get ranked with a higher age limit during that time or something, and the second time it becomes more severe, etc., but then you'd have to face all of the people who get wrongfully punished and is suddenly broke for a full month. And even if it would have worked out in some way (like youtube finally stepping up and starting to communicate with their users so that issues like that could be resolved faster) you'd still be left with a gigantic grey area of what exactly it is that is deemed age appropriate. Certain genres of content would also lose a huge amount of revenue from not getting a variety of ads on their videos, and some advertisers wouldn't know what to support. Pepsi, for example, is much better off being played on random videos than actually choosing to play in front of kids/health/sports/cooking/tech/drawing/etc. vids, because there's really no respected genre that plays towards a positive image of soda. Can you imagine the outrage Pepsi would get if they physically chose to put their ads up on health related videos? It would be a damn mess. Don't get me wrong, I actually like your idea a lot, but there's a lot of things to take into consideration. The whole advertisers + freedom of speech issue will always be messy no matter how you do it though, so who knows? Maybe it could at least improve the current situation.

xiu xiu Thanks for the feedback. Like I said, it's just an idea, and there's a very clear difference between putting an idea on paper and putting it into action. Too many people already abuse the current system, and there's no telling what people would do with this hypothetical system. Who knows? There's a reason why everything has testing first, to see whether or not the idea will actually work, and what changes need to be made to actually get it to work as intended. I certainly can't test this idea, so I have no idea how it would actually work and what would need to be changed. The point is, this is just an idea that may or may not work. It's just something for people to think about and discuss. No system is perfect, all we can do is try to make something that works.

Whenever someone in a person's group (whatever that group may be) acts out in the name of the group, they say it's not representative. Where you say that ads promote making as many videos as possible, this is wrong. Longer videos will get better ad rates. If your video is under 1 minute, like 90% of your ads will be banner ads, which pay very little, however if you make a 10 minute video, you could get a 5 second skipleable ad. Also, with really long videos, you have have mid-roll ads as well. Overall longer videos tend to make more money than shorter ones. (as long as your monetize them correctly)

LOL you clearly haven't looked at the math of the situation. Our internet is decently reliable but go look at how much it costs for 15mbps. It is 70 dollars a month. That is a joke on the world stage. In Poland or China or even our closest neighbor America they have faster, more reliable and WAY CHEAPER internet. Also all our physical infrastructure for internet is owned by one company, all the other companies piggy back off that one company. I am not sure how the actual science behind it works, but I'm pretty sure that the main company takes priority and all other internet providers are slowed down to suit the demand of the main company. Which means competition from smaller companies is almost impossible.

I want to interject something about KZbin Red. I have a friend who makes videos on his regular KZbin channel. KZbin demonetized 3 of his videos based on content. He went into his analytics and looked after this happened and he's told me that KZbin demonetized his videos and then put them on KZbin Red and is monetizing them there. He isn't seeing a dime of that BTW. What are your thoughts on this Phil? Have you heard of this?

Whoever wrote the Netflix comment doesn't know how Netflix's internet connection works. Netflix has an excellent internet connection through a large non-consumer provider, and your ISP is already able to deliver the connection to you plenty fast, they just choose not to. It's not like Netlfix could pay the ISP for a faster connection - that connectiona lready exists, the ISP is just choosing to slow it down. Related - all houses with an internet connection are wired to go as fast as the wire allows, it's just your ISP won't allow you to get that speed unless you pay them more (there are examples of ISP's forgetting to do this and people having gigabit connections they didn't pay for).

well... KZbin is actually growing again and even faster than before. And the star wars cast is also getting bigger, they kill off 1/2/3 characters a film but add in 10-20 more at least. And you would have to ignore rouge 1 since it technically happened ages ago because it a prequel film that we already knew about (kinda) so the cast didn't change really.

love the show, on regards of the riot in the airport this is just the start most likely why? Mainly because what is the main reason for a airline to be in business? To move people from point A to B as fast as humanly possible, well i keep seeing this to not be the case anymore. You have to wait for baggage, wait at TSA, wait at the counter, wait on the plane for a ungodly amount of time, then have your flight cancelled after waiting? If it keep getting worst and it looks like it, I see the airline industry in deep trouble.
