I am speechless. Thank you, Dr. Collins. This is the only place where Sodom and Gomorrah could be. This is the only place that Abraham and Lot could have seen from where they parted. Praise The LORD for your faithful pursuit. The Holy Bible must be taken seriously in everything we do. From Genesis 10:19, it seems Sodom was built by Canaan, who is Ham's son, Noah's grandson. Would your finding about chronology of Sodom help date the flood?

This is interesting but the only problem is there is not a continuous layer of melted glass all around the surrounding area. If there was a heat index that went out 2.5 miles away causing glass, it would not just be one tiny piece. It would be everywhere. So I would like to see this addressed.

There is a lot more, but they have only excavated in a few areas, and mostly in what would have been indoors and more protected. Also there is definitely the ash layer every place they have dug, and not only there, but in the surrounding areas from other archeologists as well. The ash layer is always present and at the correct depth in all digs. Hope this helps. As a side note, people traveling across the area in the years after the destruction would not have cared anything about broken pottery laying all about, but a nice shard of glass-rock would have been picked up and sold off as unique and valuable.

About the Kikkar. It is round. Now, have there been any geological research as to how this disclike feature has formed? A great volcanic crater under the ground? Was Sodom and the other cities destroyed when the Kikkar erupted?

Not any cone volcanos, no. But thought the volcano might be hidden under ground. Like in Yellowstone or Campi Flegrei.

My only problem with this is the fact that the destruction of Sodom should be much earlier than 1700ish BC. Not sure where he gets the idea that Abraham and Sodom would be in this time frame but it's not from the Bible as far as I can see. This doesn't allow enough time for Israel's sojourn in Egypt, the Exodus, and time of Judges before King David around 1000 BC? Other than that it definitely fits the description of Sodom and it's destruction. I'm guessing he is using the traditional dating of sites in the middle/near East though which is based on the badly flawed Egyptian chronology?

I just remembered another problem with Dr Collins ideas. On a different presentation titled "Is the Bible Historically Reliable" he says matter of factly that Tutmosis ll is the Pharaoh of the Exodus even though there is no collapse of Egyptian civilization after his reign and he shows a picture of his mummy which can be viewed at the museum in Cairo. You know the Pharaoh who the Bible tells us drowned along with his army when God buried them in the sea? So apparently Dr Collins doesn't even believe the account of the Exodus? Or he doesn't believe it happened in a way remotely as the Bible describes. I do think he is on the right track, for the most part, with this excavation though, other than the dating. Just my 2 cents.

Collins uses the Honorific formula for the ages of the patriarchs and that lines up everything perfectly. It places Pharaoh of the Exodus as Thuthmosis IV which is the only one it could be that matches Bible and events that occurred after. All laid out in his short book "Let my people go" or bigger recent book "Harvest Handbook". On this view the long ages in Genesis are split between actual age and an added “honorific” age. One age =40 years. For example, Abraham could have been given 1 honorific age for becoming the patriarch, one age for covenant with God and one for son Isaac. Since Genesis says he lived 175 we can take 175- (3x40) = 55 actual years which matches what a typical person lives in that time period. This type of schematic/symbolic values was common in the ANE and used by Sumerian King list for example and this view harmonizes all the relevant cultural and historical data from Bible and ANE archeology. The honorific age says something about the character of the person. If we draw on scientific data for destruction of Sodom 1700 BCE., it places Israelites in Egypt after Joseph in 1540. There are approx. 130-185 years from Abraham birth to death of Joseph, not the 360 “literal” years of traditional chronologies. Abraham career; enters Canaan in 1700BCE and Joseph ends in 1540 and the Exodus is 1400 on this view. Markers are when Chariots came to Egypt (Joseph rode one), date of Sodom, explanatory history of Thuthmosis IV and others. Asking the question regarding what would Egypt look like if the biblical narrative were true produces a complete destruction of Egypt (Ex 10:7, dead livestock (Ex. 9:6), loss of agriculture (Ex. 10:15) Nile turned to blood (Ex. 7:20), and destroyed army (Duet. 11:4) and the death of Pharaoh (Ps. 136:15). With this in mind, Tuthmosis IV and the events following matches the biblical narrative. The Egyptians suffered destruction of their army, loss of the Levant, loss of slaves plagues, and Pharaoh’s death followed by 38 years of further collapse. There are different interpretations on the ages but his matches archeology perfect. Archeology is used as a hermeneutic tool.

@@damieo8139 I made it perfectly clear that the Celtic sword was just one example. Even his selectively quoted Bible passages work against his narrative. Cutting with the edge of the sword would suggest the sickle sword as a possibility. But a one cubit long slashing sword? No, such a short blade would only really work for stabbing. He's starting with a conclusion and digging for literally anything that he can use to create a narrative.

The bible says Sodom was in Abraham day, so how can you say Sodom was around for 3000 years? This is denial of the biblical genealogy in favor of long ages. Nothing more. Do you really believe Sodom was sitting there unchanged for 3000 years and then finally God had enough? That's an insult to God.

The video around min 21 says the nilotic people used the area for 3000 years. Wiki says they were there around 3000bc. Sodom was destroyed in 1750 BC according to Collins. Collins uses honorific formula for the ages which lines up with Bible in its ANE context as well as archeology. See his new book "Harvest Handbook"
