Haley has one of the best voices to start a song a cappella. It was one of her break out moments during her Season of Idol when she started "House of the Rising Sun" a cappella.
@Smo1k3 жыл бұрын
How could she not be good a capella? Her vibrato isn't fixed to one speed, and she's mastering more techniques on how to choreograph breathing to volume to expression than most any other person her age. I'm just glad she's not doing opera for one, single reason: Male tenor reaching-for-the-top-shelf gives me an instant tension headache ;)

Haley is the whole package. She was clearly born with a great set of pipes, but on top of that, it's obvious she has worked very hard to perfect her craft. Her singing techniques, her body language, and her stage presence are all very clearly honed over hours and hours of practice. This is what defines a true performance artist. I can't stop watching and listening to her. It doesn't hurt that she's gorgeous, either.

Having followed Haley for ten years it's always interesting seeing other singers attempt to mimic her vocals on some songs, like "Creep" for instance. PMJ has implied they'll be performing this song on their upcoming tour. I don't think Haley plans on touring w/ PMJ, I could be wrong but IF Haley sings this on tour w/ PMJ, it will be for special occasions or if they video it, so It'll be interesting to see whomever Scott picks to sing this song on tour if it's not Haley, how they tackle the different textures Haley imbued in this cover
@Smo1k3 жыл бұрын
There's a couple of points in Creep where I think Haley's doing a bit of the same as 80es electric guitar nerds would do: Show you their entire playbook and call it music... But. For a grand total of 3 seconds out of 5 minutes, I can take a bit of TV-shop's "But Wait There's More"ism ;) (Edited: Metaphor McGoo)
@flavoredwallpaper3 жыл бұрын
I hope she does more work with them. Such a great combo. Excellent, creative, jazzy arrangements with an amazing jazz singer.
@HaleysTusk3 жыл бұрын
@@flavoredwallpaper One thing you should know about Haley, she's extremely loyal, she knows that it was the combination of PMJ, the timing when she joined them that has opened many doors for her, and that Scott has always been generous w/ his support for PMJ's artists. I've seen at least 3 different Haley shows where Scott is the guest and each time, he takes the mic to remind people how special it is to get to hear Haley live, sometimes tells the story of "Creep". I have a feeling this friendship will extend well into each of their careers. All that being said, PMJ is a 'collective' IMO a sort of 'springboard' for up and coming artists. By it's nature, PMJ veterans move on to their careers leaving room for new up and coming talent. If PMJ had stayed w/ a set cast, maybe there might've not been room for Haley in 2015 to show what she could do that convinced Scott to record "Creep" in Switzerland. I told Scott that he's kind of this generation's "Dick Clark" bringing new talent, new musicians on his platform to allow to gain a fan base, get experience touring, then move onto their careers armed w/ what experience they gained from being a part of PMJ. I'm hoping this cover gets traction that gets some TV/airplay so that Haley gets to perform this live w/ PMJ in front of a larger audience, like Creep did
@matthbva3 жыл бұрын
One of my greatest disappointments in seeing PMJ live-which was fantastic, BTW-was no Haley. 😢
@HaleysTusk3 жыл бұрын
@@matthbva yeah, your best bet at that was in 2015 when Haley toured the US, Europe and Australia with PMJ. I imagine she might perform with them every once in a while, for a special occasion or if she happened to also be in town, but unlikely for the whole tour.
@gregstorkwilson27452 жыл бұрын
In watching this I am in awe of Haley's tonal pallet. In the Creep video you talked about how she uses lots of different sounds. In listening to this I am struck how unafraid she is to make "Ugly" sounds. She growls, and whines and places sounds high in her nose to great effect. She is fearless in her use of unusual techniques to achieve her unique sound. She uses her voice like a collage artist, tossing in different non traditional sounds, anything to help tell the story. Its a great lesson for all us singers who just stick to the traditional path we have been taught. She is a true artist, her creativity and skill is on full display here. It is inspirational. By the way, when will you collaborate with PMJ? I'm sure they would love it if you approach them with an Operatic take on Bohemian Rhapsody or something. Just putting that out there in the universe. Maybe we can manifest it for you.

I think there is some vocal strategy in some of her hand movements. She uses soft flowing hand movements when the vocals require a softer flow and grace while powerful hand and arm movements are made when she needs to reinforce her voice with more volume. You see this same method practiced by Celine Dion when she needs to put more power behind her voice in songs like All By Myself

When Haley Reinhart goes into her growl, I call it her Joe Cocker moments. Haley has like five different personalities in her vocals, she's a one-person Pentatonix. She's the best female vocalist today.

Yep. Joe Cocker popped in there for a visit a few times. Houdini never came back, but Haley found a way to open the door for Joe. She's just incredible.

Yes, someone mentioned that in the break the band goes into an instrumental interlude of "You Don't Own Me." This was a 1960's hit by icon Leslie Gore. Though the lyrics aren't used, if you know the song,it fits perfectly in the song.

Love the breakdown of the "how to". Your videos are always entertaining, especially the expressions you have, when enjoying good music.

Love Haley Reinhart and absolutely love watching Elizabeth's reactions. One you can drag yourself away from the awesomeness that is Haley Reinhart, be sure to notice the guy on the xylophone - love the sassy head tilt at the camera as he slides out of the frame.

Could totally see this version of “Don’t Speak” as a Bond song.

Another thing I love about PMJ is how there's almost always someone "in the background" who steals the video just a bit. The Marimba guy....he's hilarious.

His slides in and out of frame are fantastic! And so smooth... If you're not looking for it, you miss them all together

I also love his "promotion" to the saxophone - when he enters with it, he looks like the cat who got the cream

The most famous IMO was Haley’s first appearance in a PMJ video was sitting on the bar with her back to the camera swaying in one of Casey Abrams’ early PMJ videos. Haley would later officially appear in her own PMJ video, Habits.

Always ready for a new PMJ reaction, particularly with Haley. Happy you were able to get to this one so quickly - I know it would have been hard to resist listening to it if you had to wait.

I'd like to see your take on the Post Modern Jukebox version of Maps by Morgan James. Personally I strongly dislike the original version, but the way she does it is amazing.

Sharing my share to FB... "Oh deer gawd! Once again Elizabeth Zharoff, The Vocal Coach, brings us another Haley Reinhart cover of a great song, "Don't Speak". Haley frikin' KNOCKS it out of the park, and Elizabeth catches/captures EVERY F'n nuance. I'm nodding my head, going, "Yeah. Yeah! That's so true! Yeah!" Of course, Elisabeth catches many nuances, colors, and techniques that i'm oblivious to, but appreciate once she brings them to the fore. Great experienced critique (in a good way) of vocal and instrumental performances. MAN! Thanks Elizabeth for such a revealing, tasty visitation to this awesome musical work!" BTW Elizabeth, I TOTALLY LOVE watching your facial expressions as you experience moments "for the first time" while watching/hearing a piece. Your eyes flutter. Your nose crinkles or changes shape almost as if your smelling the lyrics and melody. Your head pulls back when your blown away, and it leans forwards as you lean in to eat up more musical lusciousness. It's so cute and beautiful and utterly sincere. Thank you for sharing the impact of music on your soul! Please KEEP ON DOING WHAT YOU'RE DOING!!! It's enjoyable, entertaining, and not the very least eye-opening! I very much appreciate your insight on these pieces! Namaste!

I wanted to offer a recommendation for a reaction because I'm genuinely curious about what insight you might have to offer. I'm not a rap/hip-hop fan, but I have been blown away by one artist. NF is not one of the most recognizable names, but what I find intriguing about him is (a) his ability to convey emotions in song, (b) deep, meaningful song content, (c) his hidden vocal ability, and (d) impressive musical arrangement (his songs often have heavy use of piano and strings). I'm curious what insights you might have as to how his delivery in song helps to convey his emotions as well as how he is able to rap/sing to the degree that he does. There are several songs that I could recommend (I Miss the Days, Just Like You) that highlight both his voice, rapping, and emotions, but if you want a video I would probably say his most famous song, Let You Down. Fair warning, his songs are DEEP. Anyway, I thought I might make a recommendation in a genre that is outside of your norm with an artist that seems right up your alley (quality musical composition, emotional message, underrated voice), and I'm genuinely curious as to your insights. Thanks again for bringing passion and a love to music and for all the work that you do.

I just discovered 3 Haley performances I didn't know: Haley performing with her dad at Chess Records in Chicago, performing Time of the Season with Casey Abrams and singing My Baby just cares for me with Jeff Goldblum. Did you already know these ?

How has Hailey NOT risen to the top of all the vocalists of this generation? Most people have never heard of her, and that blows my mind. Ever since her introduction to the world on American Idol, she was disrespected by the judges (except Steven Tyler.) It's like they wanted to keep her down because she bulldozes over their pitiful vocals, yet they achieved levels of success with less than stellar talent. She is hands down my favorite vocalist and deserves recognition. Thank you for featuring her, and thank you for recognizing what a phenom she is! She rocks, and so do you!
@theblackdog23992 жыл бұрын
Haley has not risen to the top by her own design. As Haley has had more record deals put on the table in front of her by all the big major record labels that she has repeatedly turned down than you can shake a stick at. Hence, her own original music gets exactly zero radio play, she isn't permitted to perform on network TV, and she also gets zero exposure. It's kind of sad. What a way to run a music career. She needs to sue herself for management malpractice, as that is the only way she will ever become rich.

That's about the right tone to take :-D Haley's one of the MANY American Idol let get away. Too bad they didn't have Elizabeth on the Judging team or they'd have a lot more enduring talents.

She use to sit in front of me in math class. At the time I didn't know about her knowing how to sing like an Angel. I hardly knew any English and she was the nicest girl to me than any other in H.S. she even inteoduce me to her Siste Angelica. I didn't know what I did to deserve such a beautiful gesture 😇. I wish her and her Family a Happy Holidays. She is someone to never forget if you ever meet her. Que Belleza 🌟.

I see your reactions as almost identical to my own. You're so expressively reacting to every jot and tittle as to be expressive yourself. You hit every note, physically, the way Haley hits them aurally. I love seeing my reactions realized, you validate that Haley truly is as special as my tin ear believes to be true!

This is adorable. Personally, I'd rather listen to Haley over Gwen, but this orchestration puts it over the top. No Spectoresque Wall-o-Sound, but it didn't need it anyway.

Your dissection of songs has not only taught me how to listen differently to artists I already love, but also has helped my singing. My granddaughter challenged me to learn and sing a song with her playing for her music teacher. You helped a lot.
