We call these funeral potatoes or cheesy potatoes in my neck of the woods. We also put on a topping before baking either crushed potato chips, ritz crackers or corn flakes for a nice crunch. Delicious!

Oh man, this potato recipe has been a family staple for us my whole life long! My family recipe has half the sour cream of yours, with the addition of a cup of milk, and a bit of water to make it a bit easier to stir. I put my bag of frozen potatoes in the fridge the night before to allow for defrosting... otherwise it's super hard to stir. I broke a large glass mixing bowl years ago trying to chop through frozen potatoes while making this! :( Love love love these potatoes, and it makes the whole house smell amazing!!

Hi Kevin and Ralph!!!! So these are always a hit at my house during the holidays when I make them. I call them funeral potatoes as that was the recipe I had and the only difference is that it uses dried onion flakes, shredded potatoes, and topped with crushed corn flakes for a crunch! Love Cheesy Potatoes! 💗 I broil the dish for the last minute or so to get the top a little brown and bubbly so it has that nice Maillard effect of the browned cheesy edges all over the whole casserole. The browning sure does make dishes like this (and lasagna, pizza etc.) taste even better. Love watching you cook the food our family likes to eat.

These are called funeral potatoes in our area. I put a touch of paprika in ours and a little bit of onion powder. It just gives it the extra flavor my family likes. Best ever recipe. Thx for sharing and reminding me to make this for harvest time w/ bbq meatballs with some good green beans and salad. What do you think I should make for dessert? Just remember I serve in the wheat field in the hatch back of a yukon.

Hi Meredith Lynn! I like your touch of paprika and onion powder! Others have mentioned they call these "funeral potatoes." Your harvest time meal sounds wonderful! Very familiar recipe... except we used traditional frozen hash browns. Some folks around here used to call it Mrs Dell's cheesy potatoes since that was the brand of hash browns they would use... and the recipe was printed on the package. It would then be topped with crushed potato chips or Corn Flakes. Otherwise this is the exact same recipe that's been served at every Minnesota backyard BBQ and potluck for years!! Take care!!

I’ve made several variations of this dish in the past for taking to pot luck meals. Do you by any chance have a recipe that we used to make called German Pizza? It was made by layering sliced potatoes, spam, onions and sometimes other ingredients then pouring a mixture of eggs and milk over it and baking it in the oven. Over the years I’ve lost the recipe as it was a newspaper clipping. I’ve searched the internet and not been able to find it. Since you have so many recipes, I wonder if you or anyone out there has that recipe. Thanks for all your interesting recipes you share with us on your channel ❤

Looks like a great recipe. I know some people balk at using soup, but when I use them in things everything seems to turn out better. I don't get why many cooks use unsalted butter to make things but then add salt to it? It just seems funny to me?
@cavalcadeoffood Жыл бұрын
Hi Scooter - using soup is a convenience for a lot of recipes. I tend to use unsalted butter for baking, only because you never really know how much salt is in salted butter, so you can control for that by using unsalted butter and then adding in the amount of salt a recipe requires. For cooking, I use whatever is handy. Thanks!
