Okinawans primary diet was the sweet potato. I use a CGM and have noticed I get incredibly stable blood sugars over a long period of the day when I eat a sweet potato.

I had five russet potatoes last night for dinner and it still amazes me how wonderfully, deliciously full I can get on whole plants when leaving out the fats and salts and there's no digestive distress and no stress about unwanted weight gain. Having been a fat kid it's a miracle but now I have to really stuff myself to keep at a "normal" weight and I love it because I get to eat a LOT. :D

@peter5.056 I think it would be a little too low in protein long term.
@dj-fe4ck17 күн бұрын
@peter5.056 There are some people who say that we need to eat 1 gram of protein per pound of body weight every single day, which is ridiculous. But I think Dr. McDougall was a little bit of the opposite extreme of that.

You never know when your time is going to be up. He lived a bit longer than the average American male. Genetics,viruses,hereditary cancers, bad luck just do us in. I have an unlucky family. Everyone dies of cancer by the time they are 60. I don't smoke, I got stage 3 lung cancer at 49. They did nothing for a year and disallowed me tests because I did not smoke, I walked 14 hours a day at work, I bicycled an hour, I was a plant based eater, heavy on fiber and prebiotics. I was coughing up blood and I was not allowed a CT scan. I would have died if I did not keep petitioning the hospital's administrators.Great health habits. Sometimes people get the flu or pneumonia and die, 5 of my friends died from Covid 19. That was almost all my friends, and up till then, they were very healthy.

Ask rather how many decades he lived after that terrible stroke he had as a youth, by turning his food around and taking much better care of himself. Most people do not live through that at all, much less live well for decades and help save so many more lives. ❤💖 We are well blessed

Skins add to the texture for me as well as the extra fiber...3-4 potatoes and I get 15-22 grams of fiber--- love that benefit( but eating plant based has me loaded with fiber....peas, broccoli, cabbage, corn, plus other root based fun (beets/turnips/onions/garlic/ celeriac)

@lana742221 күн бұрын
The thought is that his death was due to being fed a very high fat, high salt, high sugar diet (Standard American Diet) by his mother as he was growing up and then suffering a stroke at the age of 18. It left a brain injury that eventually led to an earlier than expected death. He was still very healthy at the end of his life and died peacefully in his sleep. Keep in mind that brain injuries often continue to progress in damaging the brain throughout life as is now know to occur in athletes and is called CTE.

The human diet is omnivorous. It has been that way for thousands of years. It eats everything in small quantities. Meat, fish, dairy products and eggs mainly accompanied by vegetables and extra virgin olive oil, first cold pressing.
