Yea I remember my first game after grinding through Riga. I think I ended with 14 citadels after the first game, and like 9 citadels in the follow up game. I remember just laughing and thinking how broken that is, especially when ships try to angle, but not angle enough for the improved pen angles.

I mean, its pen angles are good, but they're actually not as good as the USN pen angles. The soviet ones only give an additional 5 degrees of angle iirc. In terms of pen angles the best is the RN, the USN, then RU heavy line

CC's judgement is frequently flawed. They crapped all over the Marceau too, and that thing dominates randoms and competitive play. I consider what they say, but I won't love or hate a ship based off what they say anymore.

@@thelvadam2884 Sure, but that doesn't mean they nerfed it enough. And to illustrate, I invite you to have a look at the overall performance of vessels in the game. As memory serves, Petro and Stalin take up the top two spots on the list almost consistently on all servers. And judging by the fact I was able to achieve a near 200k damage 7 citadel game fighting battleships while taking minimal damage point blank against the second biggest guns in the game, on my very first run in Petro, where I struggle to break 150k damage and consistently get blown out of the water in my main cruiser which I've been playing consistently for the past 4 years... Yeah I'm comfortable saying this ship is nuts. Even after the nerfs.

I have no problems in removing nose in Petros in ranked battles (or randoms) with my Thunderer (Conqueror probably does it even better and Henri or Goliath can work fine too).

Petro accuracy is terrible and Thunderer or Conqueror can burn down a nose in Petro quite quickly. The only thing Petro is tanky is against AP when its nose in. People need to stop spamming AP into a nose Petro. You switch to HE even with all BB's and CA's. Petro goes down just as fast as any other heavy cruiser vs HE that has decent pen. Hell, even SAP is great against Petro and Italian BB's are coming soon.

If you're in a BB, there's not much you can do. If you're in a cruiser, there's not much you can do. If you're in a DD, there's not much you can do. That's the definition of the kind of ship that should not be in the game - same as CVs.

Haven't unlocked Petro quite yet but if it can keep up what is possible in Riga plus going off this video I'm very much looking forward to it. I had a Riga game the other day where i was abandoned on a push versus 2 BBs plus a Roon and an Amalfi, and still survived the whole match. Tallinn wasn't near as good but personally Riga seems enjoyable on the way to Petro. This is the first time I've played a cruiser line where I more often than not feel comfortable playing aggressively in the right situation.

Love this ship! Great in clan battles too! Carriers give it hell in clan battles but it's so is amazing. Pretty much fire AP all the time if you can HE does great against Dd but other than that it's great. Rear turret on it is awesome 360 turning radius.

I shot down all of an FDR rocket squadron simultanously in one puff in CBs, so the ship is probably the closest to a no-fly-zone you'll get in a cruiser, without being easily taken out by one.

Yeah I was thinking the same, riga has almost as good armor, albeit with no 360 turrets and worse reload, and the talinn doesen't get the icebreaker and even a bit worse armor than Riga overall, but gets 12 180mm guns with good dispersion instead, making it very potent even on the HE. The real grind is all the ships leading up to the talinn IMO, as those ships can easily die to luck

@Potato Quality I dont know what your clan mates told you, but Tallinn is an absolute monster at T8, its a Eugen hull with 180mm guns that have way better pen than DM and Zao, the only T10 ship that has similar pen is Goliath's 234mm guns, not to mention improved pen angles and 12km stealth radar. Now Riga is a also a monster, it has Moskva's pen, improved pen angles as well 35mm deck amd sides, which is only vulnerable to Shikishima, but unlike Petro, if you give broadside in her, you WILL get citadeled. Forgot to mention, Tallin has very good firing angles so you dont need to worry about that. My stats for backing my story up: IGN: danny_s1nker EU

@@CloneDAnon You know that horizontal dispersion is the problem when shooting a target that is far away, as shells get spread over a large area horizontally, which means a nose in Petro is easy to hit as much as RNG allows it. The point you made about aiming and using correct ammo has nothing to do with the apparent problem here, Petropavlovsk nose in is almost as small target as a DD, and vast majority of ships will only be able to HE pen the upper part of the bow. Skill and knowledge is not something that stops ppl from effectively dmging Petro, its rather a combination of its small size, armor layout, arbitrary pen values plus the rng.

One are of weakness is the upper belt just around the turret area on the bow. Theres a weird little weakness there that can take citadels. Its kinda similar to the same weakness on pommern, not very consistent but definitely the best place to aim if one is showing you a greater than 30 degree angle

This ship is even dumber when kiting because it can fire at 25 degrees off centerline, which is good enough to autobounce even stalingrad ap. I think the biggest problem with this thing is just how damn low it is in the water. You can't punish it when played poorly.

I think you should go back and try out Riga. I typically have a ton of fun in it, switching between dd hunter, HE bb farmer, and cruiser killer with the armor piercing. It doesn't have the tankiness of petro but it has the same caliber, reload, and radar. It kites reasonably well and it still has considerably more armor than Tallinn plus the heal.

The only thing I would say about the petro is that they are still susceptable to HE spam unlike some T10 BBs with deck armor. However even then, the stupidly low freeboard on this (as well as the Kremlin) makes them so much harder to hit from longer ranges.

One point that was missed in the review, the AA. I shot down a full rocket squad of an FDR in one flak puff using DFAA, now the guy wasn't good at CVs but even if you dodge the flak, the AA values are amazing compared to a lot of other ships

Is there any point grinding the US heavy cruiser line anymore? I just got to the Baltimore, and the lack of range is becoming an issue. I know they have a different play style, US island hugging etc, but the Russian line seems to do everything the US does, but better? Interested to hear the views of people who have played both.

I'm fairly certain it isn't intentional. I think it's the result of incompetence. The other nations actually had proper navies during the time period of the game, Russia didn't. Given there aren't designs to draw from WG have to invent ships - thus we end up with ships MADE for the game.

lol tanked 2.9 mil potential damage in a ranked game while dishing out over 100k, it's pretty nice but stalingrad and moskva still out rank it for damage/tank. i do love driving past BBs and sinking 9 citadels though :) what really makes that ship though is it's 360° turrets that allow you to turn and slalom while keeping all guns on target at almost the whole time. the AA isn't too bad either... had a CV in ranked just keep throwing planes at me till they finally killed me but not before i destroyed 47 planes and had almost 75k AA damage... almost double what i did to the enemy cruiser when i finally killed it.

The grind is ok for this one! Tallin is fun imo (but hey, i still enjoy playing the Chappa, so there's that^^) . You get the same ap-"vibe", where you can absolutely devastate people giving you broadside, if you get in good positions, and compared to the Chappa you can get away with quite a bit more agressive playstyle, while still having to be smart and carefull about your positioning. When you top-tier though, the Tallin feels like slapping people left and right. The Riga was a strange experience: Ship looks good, handles well, is fairly tanky, but kind of lacks the dmg potential? Specially the ap feels weaker then with Tallin and the Petro, That said, i agree completely on the Petro itself- Fun to play! Specially for people, who enjoy playing more agressive then it would be advised for cruisers these days and who want to support their dds at the caps. I might add, that i had a one on one against a Moskva lateley - both nose in - that i lost quite clearly due to the bad HE values and dispersion on longer range. After he angled in steeply, because my initiative AP salvos probably made him cringe, it didnt even feel like we were playing in the same league... whatever that experience is worth for anybody :P

Petro's AP angles are actually worse than Stalingrad, and quite a bit worse than Des Moines. They're only improved by 5°, so the Ricochet angles are 50-65° as compared to the standard 45-60°, the Stalingrad 55-65°, and the American superheavy 60-67.5°. Of course, that doesn't actually balance the ship in the slightest, since it still has ridiculous shell speed, absurd pen, incredible armour (including 300mm of spaced citadel armour (Des Moines citadel has 152mm, Stalingrad's has 180mm, Henri's spaced troll armour only adds up to 215mm, and even something like Yamato only has 410mm) and a 50mm icebreaker and deck) with very low freeboard, 360° turrets with good firing angles, good AA and radar. All of that, 'balanced' by..... an 'average' reload, poor HE, and 'poor' dispersion at long range I used to be fairly doubtful of the Russian bias meme/accusation. Not anymore. Not since they released Petro with all of the above and also stealth radar.

@@rexstuff4655 Fair enough. But what even has sub-16mm armour at T10 aside from maybe light cruisers? From what I've seen Petro and Stalin both have improved AP pen angles. I don't recall the specifics of Stalin's guns, but Petro's 220s have the penetrating power of German 380mm guns.

Tallin is not bad but its not that special, but Riga is a lidl Petro, capabale of tanking a Georgia close range and shattering all her secondary hits. I remember forcing one to switch into HE after 4 minutes of shooting at me bow in without much effect xD.

I was so sick of Petros popping out of everywhere that I took my Moskva to ranked. Fun enough, it did a really good enough job at countering Petros. Most of the time they want to push towards you, and they can't do anything about your armor as long as you stay bow in. You out DPM it on HE and just reversing slowly is enough to get rid of a Petro. It's just risky because of the concealment difference between the ships and giving the slightest of broadside means death in such situation. Unlike Petro, Moskva just pulls shells to its citadel like a magnet. After all, yet once again, the only way to counter Russian bias is to use another Russian bias ship.

14. 39 using the w keys wins games now days . its having a ship that can stay alive long enough for your team mates take out the other team while you are froucsed fired . the JB is a beast at it . but dose reley on your team being awake . i have never won a target practice game yet

Petro accuracy is terrible and Thunderer or Conqueror can burn down a nose in Petro quite quickly. The only thing Petro is tanky is against AP when its nose in. People need to stop spamming AP into a nose Petro. You switch to HE even with all BB's and CA's. Petro goes down just as fast as any other heavy cruiser vs HE that has decent pen. I prefer Nevsky over Petro anytime, since at least Nevsky can maneuver.

tallin is good at its tier and can uptier ok but caution needed. riga is randomly ok and situational generally. still a good DD killer.

tbh the improved pen angle on petro is not as good as the US CAs'. However combine with the shell velocity and ballistic, plus the crazy penetration this gun can easily get full pens.

the best part of this ship is , why war gaming put in over powered ships , to stir up some life in the game . the new mode of target practice is not for me and i don't see how war gamming make money with slow matches because you will have less games in a night

Unfortunately, when viewed as a cruiser, it really wasn't the best ship for that role... Other cruisers have got accuracy, DPM, mobility to boot for weaker armor. You want a lock down ship that hunt down DDs instead of scaring them off with a radar? There's Des Moines, Mino and Nevsky. You want DPM? You got Des Moines, Mino. You want a flamethrower? there's Goliath, Nevsky, Smolensk. You want a Kiter? You got Henri, Zao, Venezia. You want an all-purpose? Des Moines, Hinden... Considering you are going to be matched up against a cruiser in the random queue, your contribution to the team's victory as a cruiser would be dependant on your enemy's awareness of you. The ship atm isn't really that OP as it only good at flanking BBs and cruiser with its concealment then blap their broadside, and given the current thunderer and co spams on top of CV, Petro could hardly do its job, resorting to blapping idiots broadsiding in tier 10. Tbh once thunderer spams died down a bit, the only nerf this thing need is a reclassification to battlecruiser so Goliaths, Hinden and other 305mm super cruisers can kill it much faster and fire hurts way more like it should. (A nerf into 10km radar would also work to help the issue of radar saturation in high tiers, but doesn't progress well considering Riga and Tallinn kinda rely on their 12km radar on their playstyle) The most broken thing of this thing is how well it fits in competitive games like CB as those games are more like attrition wars, where the games can easily snowballs to one team's favour very quickly due to the increase in communication and strategizing. Petro fits right in due to its very good armor profile and 1CV/BB limit, effectively making Petro another BB in the cruiser slot. But that's mostly a flaw in Clan Brawl and competitive gamemode design rather than Petro, as there are no hard limit on how many unique ship there is in one team, thus allowing the spamming of Petros in CB and KOTS.

reset my US CA line (regret) and i use petro as my Des memes replacement, I like the ship but tend to get focused down if i push to far, I really recommend it though its basically what the kremlin dreams to be.

petro can citadel yamato. thats how good the guns are. Edit:even after reload nerf, still very strong. kremlin at long range is actually ok... it usually hits a few shells that those shells hit pretty hard.

IMO, while I found the Tallin not that fun, though by the end, i was comfortable. I really like the Riga, way better than any of the other T9 tech tree CAs that I've played (Buff., Roon, Neptune). BUT, my goal was definately the Petra

Ye Petro can be nasty with ap,lots of overpens,but i get caught fwe times by Warchester. guns cant keep up rotation to folow that fast ship so if u get in that kind of situation just dont let him pass ....anw i love that ship ,not much games in it but when i get in ....
