Okay! I just found out ten seconds ago that reclaiming/recycling clay was a thing and my first thought was turning it into slip. It's super cool that you can turn it back into usable clay. This video was really helpful!!

You’re really good at explaining things. Some of the other vids I’ve tried watching are insufferable. Thank you for sticking to the point and breaking down what things mean

This is my first opportunity to watch one of your videos...your explanations are clear, concise and you use language that is so very accessible for me as a beginning potter. I will watch (and mark as favorites) all of your videos!!! likely before I return to playing in my mud ;)

Thanks for this! I've been doing a lot of handbuilding at home since the studio closed over the pandemic. I've never recycled my clay at home and have been wanting to try! Will definitely give this a shot! Love your videos!

Hi there! I just got a wheel for my apartment so I can throw at home. I’m curious, is there something specific I should do with all the slip that comes off in the process when I’m cleaning up? And what should I do with pieces that don’t work out? Can they also be stored with the slip?

Hi Mia, thank you so much for this series and I hope you keep producing content! I have a question about clay moisture. What should I do if I let about a kilo of recycled clay dry a bit too long? It is still pliable but a bit dry. Is there an easy way to add water back in without starting all over?
@PotterytothePeople
@PotterytothePeople 4 жыл бұрын
I will do a video on this soon, but for now you can dunk the clay into some water, wrap it well in plastic overnight. Then see if you can wedge it the next morning. If it's not, repeat. You can keep doing this until it's wedgeable. :D

Thanks for sharing! Glad to know we don’t necessary have to use a plaster bat at home. Could you please share how to wash hands with full of clay at home? I don’t want to to clog my drainage system.

Thank you for taking the time to make these videos! Super helpful! If I had a plaster board at home to dry out my used clay, could I wedge on that as well or should I wedge on a canvas wrapped wood wedge board? Any advantages/disadvantages to using either?
@PotterytothePeople
@PotterytothePeople 3 жыл бұрын
Yes you can wedge on plaster too! Just be careful no plaster chunks get into your clay. Some people prefer plaster because it doesn't hold dust like the canvas boards do. Some people even wedge on wood. Whatever works :)

I wedge mine on a plastic cutting board, a cookie sheet, and sometimes straight on my table. I tried on plastic, but I had to keep pulling the plastic off.

What's the reason for letting the clay dry out completely before adding it to the slip? I am just a beginner potter from home and have been collecting my slip along with my trimmings and small clay chunks in one big pail. Was going to learn how to reclaim that now, and hoping I didn't do it all wrong 🙈
@triciac1019
@triciac1019 2 жыл бұрын
I think it's so the clay does not go moldy. I noticed when I kept very wet clay in a plastic bag tied tight for awhile, it started to smell a bit moldy. So I broke it up and laid it on a cookie sheet and set it outside to dry and air out. I will let it sit dry and later add the water and follow her process. I did do her process and just let the spread out clay sit on a plastic cutting board and it dried out enough for me to wedge. I think my air may be dryer than hers. I didn't need the towels.

Hello wondering can you tell me how to tell if my reclaimed clay is good or not. I'm just starting in pottery and reclaimed some clay but I think I did it wrong not sure. My clay now is very plasticineish......
@PotterytothePeople

How did you reclaim it exactly? Sorry I dont know what plastisineish means 😅
@heididerksen8227
@heididerksen8227 2 жыл бұрын
@@PotterytothePeople it's kinda like play dough or plasticine(kinda like play dough just at little more plasticity) I think it's ok and it'll turn out I've never reclaimed and had it sitting in water for awhile. Seems to be ok for now. But now I know I need a dry bucket and a wet bucket to reclaim clay
