So do you let it dry on the bat before bisque.?
@PotteryCrafters
@PotteryCrafters Жыл бұрын
Hi Flora. Good question. You can if you are not going to trim. Once it dries off the bat, you can set it aside and let it dry to bone dry. I let it dry a bit, but not to leather hard. Then I cut it off the bat or wheel. If needed, here is a video on removing pottery from the wheel. kzbin.info/www/bejne/Y5OQio2bjJyLhKc 😊

@@PotteryCrafters so how do you trim with the incense holder sticking up… I have made a few and trimming I can’t figure out how to stabilize it …
@PotteryCrafters
@PotteryCrafters Жыл бұрын
Hi Flora. I place it in a chuck or another piece of pottery. Here is an example in this post under step #7. I am glazing, but it is the same principle. Center it upside down in the pot and hold it in place with clay logs. Here is the link for you. 😊

Darn the bottoms all exploded in the bisque firing 😢on mine after 2 weeks of drying
@PotteryCrafters

Yes that is common when making ring holders because it is harder to compress the clay because we are making the cone in the middle. Try flipping the ring holder over (when it is leather hard) into a cup and anchor with clay. Then trim the bottom and compress the clay on the bottom with your fingers. 😊If you have any more questions about it feel free to ask.
