Thank you so much for these projects series. As a beginner I find them useful as things to practice my developing skills. Im working my way through them. I’ve made a bowl, incense holder, ring holder, yarn bowl, spoon rest and salt pig. I’ve put my own spin on the salt pig because I didn’t make it tall enough to create the lid ( haven’t learned lids yet) so mine looks more like a frog now with a big mouth and big eyes 🐸. I’m not sure which project to make next. They are all at different stages of drying and look forward to the glazing stage. Thank you again.

Please pardon my beginners question but why do you do two coats of the first glaze? To ensure coverage? I understand the 2nd glaze is an accent glaze.
@PotteryCrafters
@PotteryCrafters 20 күн бұрын
That is a good question. Yes you are right. Glaze has to be thick. You want the thickness of a t shirt or fingernail to create a smooth glass like finish. 😊

It’s beautiful! What bat system are you using?

Thank you Kerri 😊 It's the Mardili bat System but unfortunately, I can't find it anywhere. I would really like to get extra squares. The next bat system would be the WonderBat Square Bats geni.us/aKWs 😊

wow incredibly beautiful 👍❤️ How easy did you get out of the wheel. I always break it when I take it off. so waiting so long before removing so I am waiting so long before get out😥
@PotteryCrafters
@PotteryCrafters 4 жыл бұрын
I always wait until my ring holder is no longer tacky. You can put a little water next to the ring holder and when you cut it off with your wire tool the water will slide under to help separate the clay for easier removal. Also make sure the bottom of your ring holder is thick enough, a third of an inch or .87 centimeters is good. Hope this helps. Good luck 👍 😀

OK, kids bought me a shimpo batting wheel, I made a pinch pot and how thick are supposed to be the wall? Thanks
@PotteryCrafters
@PotteryCrafters 2 жыл бұрын
You would like right around one quarter inch. Of course with most beginner potters the walls are thicker and pieces are heavier 😍

I am thinking of getting some of the clay which you are using in these demos and using the pinch technique to create a couple of things. It might be several months before any of them will be fired and then glazed. Can I do this? Please keep in mind that I am very new to all of this as I haven’t worked with clay at all🙂
@PotteryCrafters
@PotteryCrafters 4 жыл бұрын
Good question Alexandra. Yes, your bone dry pottery can sit as long as you like. Just be careful because it is at it's most fragile state. Even if dust collects it will burn right off in the kiln. 😀
@alexandrajamroz857
@alexandrajamroz857 4 жыл бұрын
Pottery Crafters So I should keep it in a safe place ,wipe off the dust inside and out with a slightly damp cloth, and then I should be good to go as firing...right?
@PotteryCrafters
@PotteryCrafters 4 жыл бұрын
Just keep it in a safe place.👍 No need to wipe any dust off. The Kiln will burn it off. Yes, any time after your clay is totally dry it can go in the kiln.💙 So happy you are making things.😀

Did you try checking out any places in your area that would rent a space in their kiln or community centers or pottery studios? That would be great if you could fire somewhere. 😊
@nowirehangers2815
@nowirehangers2815 3 жыл бұрын
@@PotteryCrafters yes i am on a waiting list for one place that does courses and have found others reluctant to fire pieces made from 'outside' clay which is fair enough. Will continue with my calls and maybe try some pit firing if all else fails . Thank you for your channel. I appreciate you.
