Thank you SO much for doing this review. I just started getting into pottery this past spring as a way to help with anxiety and PTSD after going through some tough personal stuff. I find it is so grounding and endlessly creative. I learn so much about myself while at the wheel. I have taken two classes, and I am already trying to get a wheel for our garage. Your videos have helped me learn so much. I am recycling clay as I type this. I have mastered (that word is used loosely) the cylinder and mug, and I am hoping to move into BOWLS! Yahoo! That's my next frontier. And maybe a tea pot some day. Thanks so much for making pottery accessible, it has helped me to stay calm through health issues and create beauty instead of anxiety!

@TragicallyCharmed It helps my CPTSD too. I took a pottery class in both high school & college, so it's really great to see videos like this one. I recently found a studio close enough to my house & started throwing again on their Brent wheel when I'm there. I don't have anywhere at home where I could put a pottery wheel, but it's great knowing there might be more affordable option out there for when I have the space for it.

FYI: I went to Vevor's site - between this discount, the free shipping, the site discount for registering... this costs just under $100 US. Thought that was worth sharing. Good luck! EDIT: the free shipping in the US brought it to me in two days! 😊

I throw on a Brent at the Art Studio where I'm taking lessons. I wasn't financially able to buy one so I did buy a $160 Amazon wheel. It's like driving a old used car, it has it's quirks and it sometimes does weird things and it can't move too fast but it gets the job done! I think it has actually made me a better potter because I have to learn to compensate and work around the kinks that it throws at me. I've thrown mugs, bowls and vases on that $160 wheel. I'm saving up to upgrade later this year to a Brent but I will always have soft spot for my old clunker.

They arent CE certified (safety certification of electrical appliances required for a n y insurance claim to apply) in Scandinavia where we have 220v. I know Brent wheels have caused houses to short circuit and even catch on fire bc of ignoring the safety directions stating explicitly to remove aggregate from the socket if left unsused for extemded time (over two weeks) and these ARE certified. I'd never DARE use a cheap Chinese wheel, not at my place.

@@gnarbeljo8980you can hire an electrician to check products like that if you feel unsafe but that is good info to know, thanks. Also price doesn't really have much to do with country of manufacturing. So the Chinese comment comes across as a little racist.

For adult clients, we will do coloring books or crochet/sewing depending on how they are feeling in the session. For teens, I like to use art as a grounding tool while working on harder topics, with neurodiverse communities I find it's so beneficial to use it as a tool to train positive self talk and resiliency! I have this same wheel!! I have had it for over a year now and have had zero problems! The height is definitely weird and the pedal sucks, but i religiously use the touch screen and I have the wheel on a short table so i can still sit while i throw. Definitely worth it, especially for the price!

Would it work if you sat on the floor? The way she was sitting on the table made me think it might work that way. I prefer to sit cross legged than on a stool, but of course that doesn’t work with a pedal. But with the touch screen, that might be perfect!

You cannot imagine how thankful I am for your videos. I live in Germany as well and pottered years and years only with air dry clay, because I couldn't find a KZbin channel adressing what I needed (specifically for my country). Now I'm diving into the "real clay" world and I reaaally need a lot of tips. So, thank you for that!!! I'm really looking forward to purchasing my own, first wheel to start working on some mugs (I really love mugs!) and bowls, vases and some plates (mainly for myself hahah, but also for my Etsy Shop. So I'd be really happy to win the wheel, but I'm happy either way because I found your channel. Thank you :)

Thanks for donating this wheel to one of us! I appreciate your honesty in reviewing it. Like a few others who have commented, I've been largely hand building so far. My wheel skills are super rusty and it's a bit embarrassing practicing in the studio I belong to. I'd like to master the fundamentals and create the usual fare of bowls and mugs, as well as closed forms.

Honestly, if I had that wheel, I'd be making so many big "Roundy Bowls," like I made in my college ceramics class. qwq I miss that class so much and loved getting to make bowls and mugs that fit the round, bulbous aesthetic I've always wanted in my dishware. It was the best thing EVER! Also maybe branch out into plates with little "roundy" edges to match. I love plates with curvy, raised edges!

I saw this wheel yesterday and it looked really interesting. I plan to make Olla watering pots for my gardens. They are fairly tall pots with a large bulbous bottom and an narrow neck. They hold the water and slowly release it to the soil and the roots of the plants. In dry areas they are great for sustainable watering with little to no evaporation and all the water going to the plants.

I've been borrowing a wheel to make lantern gremlins, but if I had my own that's what I'd do! You basically throw open gourd shapes, then carve them out into little faces. You use the opening to drop in tea candles. The eyes and mouths light up and they're super cute.

Sometimes I attend a class at a nearby pottery, but I would LOVE to have my own little wheel at home. Mostly I create simple dishes like bowls and plates and with a wheel I would do cups and mugs as well as experimenting with more artsy things like special vases or pieces with a dome.

It is a month after @ClorisPatientC posted below getting the big discounts and I just had the same experience on Vevor (although my total was a tad higher but still an amazing price). Great review and appears to be an excellent product for the price. I am actually buying it for my daughter who is a professional resin artist making gaming dice. She has to lap sand her dice to clean up casting flash and with a 1000g abrasive this wheel would be an excellent replacement for the 6" diameter lapping wheel she is currently using. I can also see it for my fellow wood craftspeople out there as a great sharpening platform for chisels and plane irons. Thanks for this excellent review and the links!

For the competition entry: I have been going to pottery classes for 20 weeks now, and I really want to throw at home and not only once a week when I’m in class. Having a wheel at home will mean I can practice anytime, Vases are my favourite, my first one collapsed on itself, the second one I’m very proud off, not big but held it shape and had a thin neck, now I would like to throw bigger, maybe with a 2 or 3kg, try to make large vases, not just thin neck vases, and I’d like to do some closed form stuff like doughnuts and spheres - think it could be so much fun 😄

I did pottery in high school and I never quite got the hang of the wheel; I was always better at slab building and coiling. I've been dying to try again. As my plant collection starts to grow, and some of my older plants have gotten larger, I've been needing more pots. So I would use it to make more pots/planters. And the fact that it can handle 2 kg of clay would make it perfect for that. I've been loving your videos lately and I look forward to watching them every week!

My husband bought be a 10 lesson package in a pottery studio ( a mom gift so I could do something just for me) and I was surprised I remembered quite a bit. I purchased this wheel (not the digital version though) on amazon to put in my basement. I put it on pavers to elevate it, used a second stool to hold the tools and water bowl (I'm literally setting up my little pottery studio as I am researching the wheel). I have a used kiln in my garage I plan on getting set up out there, but for now I am able to take my pieces to the studio/store to fire . I am glad it's getting a good review!

I am new to pottery, have been learning slab and hand building myself. I took a "class" it really wasn't a class though... it was mostly the use of equipment for a very short period of time. I tried a wheel there and was given little instruction, it was sort of a hands off approach to a class. I decided to stick with hand building as the cost of a wheel was prohibitive...but this little wheel might just do the trick. How fun to see a wheel at a lower or ice point do well! I am new to pottery but love the look of old world vases- think olive oil vases. I'd love to throw those along with serving bowls. Thanks for offering this to your community!

I teach homeschool pottery classes to 20 to 30 students in small groups. I bought six of these wheels and 6 inch bed risers from Amazon. It brings the wheels up to the perfect height for student to sit on an upside down 5 gallon pail and learn to throw many kiddos have been extremely happy getting to try their hand up pottery and I was able to bring it to them at affordable price. Of course they’re not horses like my skutt wheel

Many community colleges and four year colleges offer pottery classes. You can take them for credit or none credit. All you need is a High school diploma to register for classes. My college offers plenty of clay to throw, 20 school glazes, 5 raku glazes, 10 pottery wheels, a slab roller, wall clay extruder and plenty of tables for hand builders, four oxidation kilns, 1 reduction kiln and 1 raku kiln. Also they have open time throughout the week if you want to throw on open days. Many offer senior discounts. My college tuition is about $550.00 a semester for 14-15 weeks of use. For anyone who is interested.

This is great advice. My friend took pottery every semester in community college. In addition to the initial direct instruction and support, he had everything he needed to explore and practice basically whenever he wanted. It gave him the confidence to invest in a personal studio space and has been a potter ever since.

@@LolaliciousSmiley Thanks! Same here. All I needed was a small kiln to fire my work, because the school offered everything else.

I am brand new to pottery throwing (I've taken one class). I've not yet purchased a wheel but have been looking at the Vevor products. I want to start a paint-your-own pottery business and really want to learn to make blank coffee/tea mugs so people can visit my studio and glaze their own design. I loved your review, so thanks for sharing your thoughts.

Thanks for the honest review and for showing how it handles different amounts of clay! I’m a beginner to ceramics and have taken an intro to throwing class. However, I haven’t been able to sign up for another. I’d love to continue learning and be able to make vases, mugs, and other kitchenware items!

Thank you, Mia for the review. I've been hand building (love your videos. I rely on them heavily for inspiration and project ideas) for about a year and a half now. I'd love to learn to throw on a wheel! I've been thinking about one of the less extensive wheels and wondered if it would be a decent starter wheel. So glad you reviewed it! Now I feel like i have a direction to go!

I was looking at buying a mini wheel to start throwing some teeny 1 flower vases. But this is a similar price and less limiting. Did crafts at uni and enjoyed ceramic workshops. But never took to the tutor very well. This may be a better solution to the table top in shed throwing I was thinking of. Thanks😊

Wow! You’re so kind to decide to give away the wheel! I’m new to pottery and haven’t even had the opportunity yet to take a wheel throwing class. I would absolutely love to throw mugs, sal cellars, Christmas baubles. Basically too much to mention:) love, love your channel. You’ve taught me so much over the years:) thank you and keep it coming!

I would recommend the more box-shaped ones that are marginally more expensive, because the rocking is not an issue due to the larger base. It starts to struggle around 5 kilos abd lasted a few years. The height is an issue but i just propped it up on blocks

Thank you so much for all your online classes - templates and you tube videos. I'm really glad you added reviews to your you tube. There are so many options of things to purchase I love when someone I trust gives a review. I have been looking for a wheel for my home. I am my dads caretaker so it's hard to get to the studio like I uses to. I love all aspects of pottery. Thank you for all you do.

You are a ceramic support for me❤. I did my first firings and glazing with your videos. I use shimpo RK -5T (I didn’t have money for another one at the time, and I was afraid to buy wheel from unknown companies😅), there is no pedal, so I would like to try a different wheel. I watch every episode and I am delighted with your idea. You create valuable educational materials, but what I love most is your creative challenges and the fact that you show that things don't always work out as planned. No pressure, with a creative vision - something beautiful. Keep creating, all the best 🎉.

I have a Vevor wheel (kind of like a block shape, not legs) and it works great. It’s not as comfortable as a taller seated wheel but at 10% of the cost it’s worth it. Some of their models (like mine) doesn’t allow the splash guard to come off for cleaning so that’s something to consider

Oh wow! Thank you for the review - I would love to attempt to make a bowl - my daughter and I have just started to try this craft at a pottery place and have completely fallen in love with it - I find myself thinking about how clay feels in my hands all week until I can get back to family night at the pottery place - it's almost as if my body already knew I loved it and was back home when I sat down at the wheel and made my first three extremely tiny pieces - I didn't realize how much they shrank!😂 I am hungry for making more and more and more - my mind is bursting with ideas!

Thank you for the insights! I am just hand building, but since a couple of months I was trying to figure out which wheel to get and how much I need to save first. I have a soft spot for mugs as my mum used to gift me a mug when I was little everytime I was really sick. That always made my day ❤️Therefore I’d can’t wait to practice on a wheel and to start throwing mugs and bowls on my own! 🌈

Thanks for the honest review and more than anything making me aware of a low budget entry wheel. I inherited a (semi) functioning kiln about a year ago and haven't had the motivation to get it working because the lack of an affordable but good quality wheel to actually make stuff on. Many years ago I found some mugs in a strange shape that I love but have never been able to find again so I plan on making a test batch to give to friends and family and use it as an excuse for finally jumping in!

Thank you so much for this video. I’ve been wondering about the less expensive wheels. I’m taking classes at our local community college. I retired a couple of years ago, and learning how to make pottery and use a wheel has been a decades-long goal. I’m having so much fun. My favorite is to make bowls, especially wide flat bowls. I’m also experimenting with combining two types of clay for a marbling effect, and with carving texture, and slip trailing. So far, almost everything I made I have given away, except for a few of my favorite items. I thought about offering bowls for a couple of locally owned cafés. So I would definitely need to step up production if that happens, and having a wheel at home would be very helpful.
