I'd say the SilentSpectre win is valid. Sure it wasn't played with the correct Damage Ratio but both players were dealt the same hand at 0.9. It's not as drastic as saying that the outcome of a set with Items on in Tournament Bracket is a completely valid win.

@alexc21944 жыл бұрын
It's not the same as a real life fight, you watch your percent and you can tell exactly how far/high someone will fly from each of your moves. Which can tell you if a move can be combo'ed into or if it can be used to kill. Example: with different characters, If you up threw someone at 100%, and that specific character will die at exactly 100% from that character's u throw, but the knockback is set to 0.9, they are no longer at 100%, but instead 90%! Which will no longer kill. While I understand that both characters were dealt the same hand, 0.9 knockback. I could never agree with anyone that it was fair, since for the newer player, they are at a slight advantage over the veteran player. A great and practiced player will know exactly how much knockback they will deal, changing the values is the same as handicapping someone.
@WiiamGamer553 жыл бұрын
Agree, Ss would have gotten kills much earlier if that was the case. Overall it should had been 1.0. But Silent won 2-0, still fair overall.
@MeatSnax4 жыл бұрын
I kind of see Armada in a different light after his comments about the match. He has a good case for being the greatest Melee player of all time, and it kind of feels like he was taking away a pretty legitimate win from another really great player. Armada considers it a really big accomplishment to have never been beaten in a bo5 by any American players outside the top 6, and SilentSpectre probably feels the same way about his own win over Armada. If SS had practiced the peach matchup for months on end at 0.9 and then somehow changed the damage ratio without anyone noticing, that would obviously invalidate his accomplishment, but I don't think that's the case. The mature thing to do for Armada would be to say that maybe it wasn't strictly tournament legal, but both players were playing on equal footing and SS won the set fair and square. That's just my takeaway though. Great vid!
@turndownforwalt4 жыл бұрын
I don’t think the statement was meant to be malicious, but I can definitely understand the interpretation. Thanks for the comment!
@thewisewolf7684 жыл бұрын
I don't know how you got what you did from his comments.
@av22797 ай бұрын
I thought I was the only one who felt notes of this in his comments. I'm sure it was tempting to just call it invalid and lean into it, so I'm kind of just appreciating that it didn't devolve to that (not that Armada would do that), but he could have still said that SS won fair and square and to just drop the issue, because, if what he says is true, he doesn't even care about that loss anymore anyway. It shouldn't matter to him if SS gets some shine.

For example filling up a football too much or there being an irregular hole in the field or something. You don't see them replaying a football game.

@thomasr.66694 жыл бұрын
True, but stuff that would’ve happened on 1.0 could’ve changed the outcome of the match. In .9: Peach: Down Smash and aerials don’t kill as early, the forced tumble from up throw that could’ve led to a combo or a chain grab isn’t possible. Falcon: General kill moves don’t kill as early, makes it easier to combo into knee confirms since Peach is thrown a shorter distance for a longer stretch of %, being sent a shorter distance helps him recover easier until later %’s than usual (Peach doesn’t matter as much since she has a very horizontal recovery and can make it back easier than Falcon). There are other things I’m sure, but I don’t play Melee much, just watch it a lot. I personally think the .9 KB helped Silentspectre more than Armada. Correct me if I’m wrong though.

A loss is a loss. If it's not caught and corrected within a specific time frame relevant to the tournament itself, then it's a match that counts simply because both parties agreed to played the set. Sure, both of them didn't know or noticed this at the time, but how can you say that "the only way to make it count" is to have them replay it today in 2020 when not only do both of them have years of experience they didnt have at the time, but also won't change the fact that Armada went to Loser's Bracket and ultimately ended at 4th. We can only do better and make sure to check the game rules before agreeing to play each and every set to prevent this scenario from ever repeating again.

@@Athorment No I’m not saying they should replay it, hence the ‘wouldn’t completely discount it though’. It’s just not technically valid.
@Athorment4 жыл бұрын
@@ad240p what does "technically valid" even mean? What was the result of it? Armada lost and ended up in 4th. Can you change that? No. A loss is a loss is a loss. Shouldn't have happened but here we are.
@ad240p4 жыл бұрын
@@Athorment You said it yourself, it shouldn’t have happened so it’s not technically valid. I already said there was no point in changing anything, so that’s irrelevant.

Massive game tournament organization who specialize in glitching out a party game from 20 years ago are surprised and appalled to find a glitch in their video game Either way, cool video :))

Bro what about wispy woods blowing in the background during the up throw? Does that change anything somehow?

it does not, but thats a good question

But like, how does it happen? Why would someone go to the settings in one of the consoles during a tournament and alter the knockback ratio? It doesn't look like it makes much sense...

imo, tournament sets should never ever be replayed. It is the responsibility of the players to make sure the game settings are correctly set. Most local tournaments have boilerplate in the ruleset that says something to the effect of "results of completed games played with incorrect settings stand." It amazes me that leffen/chu and zack/komo were replayed.

Agreed, leffen a bitch

He should have known! Falcon not getting knocked down should have been something he noticed and brought attention to. It's sort of his own fault for not realizing it.
@ARMTOAST3 жыл бұрын
the game was nowhere *near* as labbed out then as it is now--Armada might have instinctively suspected upthrow might lead to a tech situation there but he almost certainly didn't know it was guaranteed or maybe chalked it up to some other jank. to be clear: tens of thousands of people watched that set over the course of almost a decade and nobody noticed.
@RipleySawzen3 жыл бұрын
@@ARMTOAST I agree with you completely. My point still remains. Part of contests has always been knowing the rules and being able to tell if something isn't right. Had Armada been a better more knowledgeable player then, he would have noticed.

What I don't get is how the damage ratio got set at 0.9 to begin with. And were the other sets played on the same setup also 0.9?

Would the knee the falcon hit peach with the first time. Would that have killed? Cuz 0.9 affects. ALL

So weird to see these older sets and compare them both to modern melee at the top level and realize I’m no better than a 2010 melee player
