I fled California and moved to a mountain in Tennessee away from all the strife of the Bay Area. I have peace and quiet and tranquility. But there is a little corner of my heart that misses the sparkle, glamour, and excitement of a bright and beautiful large designer department store. I grew up in California, surrounded by gorgeous department stores, but I never could afford to shop there. Instead I would walk through them in awe, soaking up the splendor and beauty and collect the business cards from each shop. I would take them home and look at each one and recall my visit and in my mind envision the twinkling lights and reflective glass and tall slim androgynous mannequins and carved tables piled high with new wool folded sweaters, walls of linens, towels and comforters. gleaming stainless steel and copper pots and pans and the smell of new leather jackets and purses and perfumes....all the latest material offerings of our great society.😊

Union Square is a shell of what it used to be. In the late 70s my girlfriends and I would take BART to SF to holiday shop, have lunch and enjoy the city. It's a shame what it has become today. 😢

I remember when Union Square was packed with shoppers too.

Merry Christmas to you and your friends, family and members! Bet this is the last year you'll see people downtown during the holidays. I will wish that all the hard-working people make plans for leaving California next spring.

The pandemic created a need for online shopping and now all major cities across the world have been affected not just San Francisco!

It's just not the way it used to be, from what I have experienced in San Francisco, it's never fed my soul with happiness, I moved to the Midwest in North Dakota, and I felt more happier and at peace there. San Francisco has horrible Judges and corrupt politicians. It doesn't matter how much money or promises people make its the character of the people in charge and running that place that is causing it to go downhill. I like how you are sharing this with the world.

@3:47 It was Lefty O'Doul's and The Daily Grill, respectively; both had been there for a long time, both were restaurants with good food.

I lived in the Bay Area in the 80's. Used to catch BART to go into San Francisco. So sad to see what is happening to all cities. There was a Saks, used to get my hair cut at a shop on Maiden Lane, always got Dim Sum at Yank Sing. Remember Sam Woo's in Chinatown. There was a Chevy's at Embarcadeo. I remember when San Francisco Place opened. I would walk just about anywhere in the city with no problems. Sad to see what it's like now. I now live in Seattle and it's the same way. Downtown is dead, wouldn't even think to go downtown to eat at night. Macy's left years ago. About the only store left is Nordstrom. Pacific Place looks like San Francisco Place, empty. As long as Amazon lives the cities will never be what they used to be. Very sad. I loved San Francisco, it breaks my heart to see what has happened.

Back at you, the abandoned place at 3:49 was Lefty O'Doul's Bar. Great old school bar and had a decent buffet. Again, I'm just a tourist but my dad lived nearby at one point, so I'd visit from Toronto. Hate to see what's become of San Fran. Full disclosure: I should say my city has an idiot mayor and a few places that are screwed up but not like what you show. Oh, and my country is a disaster but we're working on it.

@15:05 you can see John's Grill in the distance. Man I miss that place. Of course, I moved away a decade ago because of the very things you document Leo.

I like that it was in the evening. At first I thought "Dead Cat Bounce" was the name of that band. Then I googled it. There IS an Irish band of that name, but I think Leo was referring to this definition: " In finance, a dead cat bounce is a small, brief recovery in the price of a declining stock.[1] Derived from the idea that "even a dead cat will bounce if it falls from a great height",[2] Wikipedia

thats because this channel is presenting an image only local people can go and verify it is is true or not. Crazy everyone here in the comments actually think what this channel is presenting reality when it clearly isn't. If you look as the library of videos on this channel most of the titles start with the word "Every", why would someone use that word when its not the case and can be easily verified. It's deceptive.

I didn’t vote for London Breed. But, she presented herself as a moderate centrist mayoral candidate. She never informed voters that she would secretly implement DEI and give it dictatorship authority to destroy public safety. I voted for Lourie. SF people are not against police, just politicians and protesters
