I worked in a processing plant in Savannah that made hot dogs and sausages. They used real meat (beef and pork) but the mixture was emulsified to resemble a pasty liquid. All meat texture was removed and TVP (textured vegetable protein) was added to it. Then spices and tons of sodium was added to give the goo taste. It didn't help much. What you attempted to consume looked alot of what the plant put out.

@stgigamovement Жыл бұрын
Oh definitely. My grandmother's chili recipe is a mixture of Ranch-Style beans with hamburger meat and spices, which ends up having a barbecue flavor. On Father's Day, there was pulled pork being served, but the barbecue sauce at her house activates my fructose malabsorption. Luckily, the pulled pork wasn't mixed with the sauce. So I decided to put the pulled pork meat inside the chili. At that moment I had effectively created something akin to a classier version of the contents of this can. When it comes to the other two cans by Hunger Breaks that Ashens reviewed, those are actually harder to do justice. If you tried the chicken nuggets from the Mixed Grill can, you would find that their breading disintegrates into the beans. The egg nuggets in the All-Day Breakfast can would absolutely not turn out well either. Nothing however would stop one from doing a combination of classier versions of all the cans so long as you omit the egg nuggets and chicken nuggets from your replica. The idea of having beans and meat together like in this can (especially this one given the egg nuggets and chicken nuggets in the other 2) was not a bad one. Hunger Breaks just had to make a lot of quality sacrifices to be able to sell the can this cheap. Reading the ingredients label that is in view in the Mixed Grill can video indicates that all the meat items are comprised partially of wheat products, most likely to save costs. Considering what these sit in, it is no surprise that they have the texture that they do. It's almost like dunking bread in water. If you want to do The Big Barbecue right, you'd want to add the relevant meats to whatever chili recipe you prefer. Also, my local market has pork items that are modeled after a New York steak. So putting one of THOSE in some ranch style beans with some hamburger patties cut into halves or quarters, as well as pork sausages that have natural casings, you can replicate this in a way that actually tastes good. For the burgers, I'd recommend using sirloin steak hamburger patties if you're focusing on quality. Also, making the beans yourself to your standards would actually be an even better idea than using store-bought canned beans assuming you have the ability to do so.

I've watched a LOT of Ashens videos. But by far my favourite quote out of all of them- or, in fact, any video ever- is 'foreskins and eyelids'. I was not prepared for that gold.

I remember when I was a kid my mom got a packet of Chow Mien from a local Dollar Store. When she served it, it had hair in it and I don't mean a hair, there was enough stringy black hair in it to make a wig. :)

Dollar Tree is another. Though when I go to England Poundland seems somewhat mainstream and where I live most people in the middle class are just grossed out by most dollar stores.
@Squiggle847211 жыл бұрын
It is kind of a mainstream considering it's located in nearly every major town/city in the UK :P What can I say, we're cheapskates haha
