You're definitely my biggest mentor in my concrete business. You don't half way do anything, and I recommend to all the finishers I know. I watch your videos everyday, some several times. I started pouring when I was 17, and stuck with it a few years, but started my own business a year ago. You've been a great help! I finish by hand this time of year myself. Trowel machine will keep us on the job all night. I also admire how your crew works together. Many I go out and pour by myself. I'd probably do that basement in 2 pours, and use my 8 foot darby screed. Hard to find good help in Tennessee. Drugs and health insurance put the brakes on that. Keep the videos coming.

It's my biggest problem. The warmer months, I'll pour 8-10 yards per day and finish that, and form for the next day. I make more money that way in the long run, without sacrificing quality. It just takes a little longer to complete a job.

I'll be pouring a 3 step stair from my garage shop to my back shop today. It's 17° here now. I'll be mixing with hot water and since I have chickens I'll be setting 2 heat lamps above it for 24 hrs min. Hope this works.

Here in my area pa, all concretors I know like the deck to be on especially in the summertime. Eliminates the shady and sunny areas. It all sets evenly and can be troweled with a consistent finish following the trowel machine. When the house isn't built on top usually burnt finish

Good afternoon I live in Ohio temperatures can change very quickly here without not much of a notice. anyway I had a guy who does concrete pour a 10 x 15 patio yesterday using calcium chloride no insulation under the concrete I would say the average temperatures were in the low mid 30s it was finished late about 7 pm temp drops to 20s no blankets were used last night . The owner today brought blankets to help the curing process about 8am this morning. My question is it a little too late or using the blankets now has the curing process been compromised? what should I look out for in the days ahead? Thank you for any answer you can provide people like you the pros are greatly appreciated when people like myself have questions and don't have the answers to ease their minds...

Nice work! In northern Illinois we pour the same way in the winter. You should look into super p. We add it on site, turns a 4” into an 8” with about 1gallon of chemical, sets like you poured a 4”. Make sure you vent to prevent CO and carbonization.

The super p will almost eliminate the bleed water, speed up finishing time.

Very cool Mike! Very simple but smart way to place the concrete. You said you were able to save the owner nearly ~$1K by not using a pump, but wouldn’t you be completely justified to charge them a least a cpl hundred bucks for the additional amount of work it involved?

Thnx, Joe... im gonna do it n stick with them even if it isnt as comfortable at first or even maybe changes up my timing. Holding off longer but decreasing your trowel time is worth it. Especially in this season.
@joeconner9801
@joeconner9801 4 жыл бұрын
Randy Miller I don’t think they’ll give you any problem. I have two different types. I have the steel ones that are a little different from mikes. Mine are not flat, they have a angle on the front end which you don’t need. And it won’t hold me up when the concrete is on the wet side. I think it’s the qlt made by Marshalltown one. The ones I use now is made by kraft tools made from plastic. They are wider and more flat. They don’t dig in on the sides. And they are really comfortable. Hope that helps man. I sometimes get carried away talking about tools! Hah

By "hand trowel" do you mean that you used a mag float and then ran over it right after with a steel trowel to make it smooth? Or is the hand trowel you referred to also magnesium to not seal the surface? Good work
